And then start him in the midfield in 2026, watch our midfield get destroyed for 6 weeks, then make him sub for another 3 weeks, before we finally realise he's done. We'll give him another year.

Of course he then gets 35 disposals a game in the SANFL, is given another go at AFL level in a last desperate attempt to make the 2026 finals. On the back of the last few games where his stats look good, but we continue to lose and miss finals, he will be given another 12 month contract for 2027.

Or maybe I just have PTSD
Maybe because they are contracted and we are on the hook to pay. At least it frees up List PosnI can only hope our direction as a club changes where we stop this type of list management. We need to stop being "good guys" all the time and make some tough, unsavoury decisions.
We can't keep the "we will drop them to the rookie list" for a year or two before they are finally delisted. It just reeks of testimonial year, if they are not good enough we should move them on. I'm not sure why we have a philosophy of having depth down to the last player on our list, Nicks only plays 27 of them anyways, we could be a bit more speculative with our last few players, we might get a good un out of it because presently, we know people like Schoenberg etc aren't going to make it.

Agree with this, the rookie list is perfect to have a project ruckman or a key position forward or defender. Someone with potential that didn't get drafted. But we just use it as the 2nd chance saloon for our experienced guys we don't want to get rid of.I can only hope our direction as a club changes where we stop this type of list management. Certainly not the way Maffew views the list and how best to utilise the squad over the course of the season. It does seems when we drop a player to the rookie list we are using it as a safety net.
You need depth to be a real contender but no player outside your top 28 or so is going to make much difference. That gives you your best 23 and some cover for certain positions. You hope from the rest of your list during the season some start to push up.There is always the mid season draft as well.
I didn’t hear it but did Jon Ralph say during the broadcast it was between Saints and Port?In the absence of Salary Cap it is a no brainer to want Nas Milera Wanganeen.
But..... to get him we will make him our highest paid players. Too much cap space IMO.
I just don't see the value. Much rather build a midfield around Curtin, Draper, Sog for the next ten years...
Seeing Curtin today, we already have the top end elite midfielder. Push Rankine to a more outside role and hopefully Draper becomes the explosive pure mid NMW should become.

Except Murphy never to play againCareful making long term decisions based upon thumping 2025 Richmond. Hell, careful making any decisions.
HahahahahaExcept Murphy never to play again
Doedee got an offer big enough to get us a first round compo pick - and is competing with multiple players at Bris just to get a game. And had already had 2 knee reconsI'm sure clubs all over the league send through lowball offers all the time. They'd rather have Milera on $150k than a fourth round draftee
The question is whether the offers are legitimately reasonable. Not sure there would be many clubs offering big deals

Milera would have had some solid offers
He was 18-21 While craigy was here. Yes 2012 when he was 22 was his breakout year. Had nothing to do with Craigy leaving. It was natural progression.Got his shit together immediately after Craig left what shock![]()
Wright is our Coach. Godden is still Development managerWright is now hands on in charge of the SANFL program not Godden....might have a bit to do with it.
Similar level to Sinclair from Saints. There aren’t many genuine stars in the comp. And Milera does a solid job. No brainer that he gets an extensionOutside of his first season and a half, Milera has never looked like being anything more than a role player. Doedee is all that plus a difference maker when the chips are down. There’d be little appetite for a non line breaking half back with low vision that gets SFA contested ball. Unlike our club, most don’t judge players based on games against developing or undermanned sides that are getting thrashed.

I wonder if clubs will come asking about Nick Murray?
Yeah, this is the answer. ROBs been okay to good this year, Draper would cost more and I'm not convinced is better, plus is a risk with his injury. If Marshall became available though.....I'm utterly unconvinced there's a ruckman on the market who is a better player than ROB. Re-sign him for the 3 years he wants.
Good.He said saints box seat and port heavy favorites if he leaves with us a clear 3rd
$1.2 m plus for that role? That is Blue Chip midfield money IMO.Half back flank is as important as inside midfield. After all, it's the position that is your first point of contact when an intercept occurs, and due to that, controls how potent your outside game is (which is also why most star wings prospects of yesteryear are on the half back flank now).
The games that tell you that we desperately need an NWM is the ones against the top 4 where our ball movement becomes stagnant, as a big part of it is we lack the quality on that line to punch through. He is worth every cent, and then some, for our list in its current state seeing he's a Dawson type who can anchor an entire offensive game.
