Haven’t you for years been going on about us having a developing ruck on the list? Why are you throwing up excuses now?
Sure have there's been plenty of opportunities outside of Moyle that are now highly proven AFL rucks.

There have been, Moyle could be one of those with the opportunity
It's obvious they thought Strachan was decent cover at the time since been proven to be not a great decision IMO.

They did put a decent offer to Jarrod Witts when he was coming out of contract but the Suns trumped us with the contract length.
It was also reported we had a crack at Moyle several years ago but he decided to bide his time behind Witts.

I'm just thankful we seem to have dropped out interest in Draper for the hit our salary cap would take.

And yes we should always have a young developing ruck coming up behind the incumbent.

With us playing both Charlie Edwards and Oscar Ryan off halfback, I’m disappointed we didn’t pull the trigger on Ashton Moir in the draft.

He’d be perfect as the Tex replacement as a more mobile third tall forward.
Im not, he's not going to make 100 games.

We seem to have gone off the idea of drafting our own ruckman and developing them from scratch. ROB was the last one we did that with and he was a rookie.

Since then the Lowden, Hunter, Strachan, McAndrews of the world have all been mature-agers/re-treads.

Realistically hard to think of a ruckman we drafted since we drafted Meesen, Maric, Griffen (rookie draft), Sellar and Tippett all within a few years of each other.
The Crows were really into Goad and Dobson. North took Goad the pick before we would have, and everyone expected Dobson to go earlier in the draft than he did, and we didn't have a pick to grab him with.

The thing that shows me how well out recruiters are dialed in at the moment is the 2020 Covid draft.
It was the worst draft in history, with stuff all form guides to use etc, as we all know.
We took five picks in that draft and four of them played on the weekend.
Thilthorpe, Berry, Cook and Pedler.
That haul is so far ahead of every other team its not funny.

If we are able to get NWM to nominate us during the trade period with the likely cost of our next 3 first round picks, I wonder if there is any possibility of Dodson being included as some steak knives our way?

We're not getting any change out of 3x FRPs when all three are likely to be late ones (and futures are always discounted anyway). Hell, the way NWM is going, 3x FRPs is unders.

Players won’t be traded. People reference the Judd trade but that was almost 20 years ago. You can’t force players to go somewhere so unless a player has asked to be traded to the Saints, no one will be involved.

2 firsts would be the starting offer, Saints would ask for 3. And while worth it, that is HUGE amount of collateral. Bigger than any trade made. No way it’s 3 first rounders +. If anything it would be second rounder coming back.

You can trade 3 years in the future now, and we have all our picks… so it’s doable with AFL approval. But 3 years is a long time in footy and who knows what a 2027 pick would be. There’s also a chance of a bunch of second and third round picks to get something depending on other clubs needs.

Let him nominate first then worry about how we get it done.

If I was St Kilda I'd be asking for Thilthorpe and failing that Curtin + a first and failing that Rachele + 2 firsts.

What a star.
Rachele and 2 1sts...come on that's not being realistic at all....and NWM is uncontracted remember

I would think that with where would would expect and hope our first rounders fall in the next three years, the three firsts would not even cover Nas.

Theyll need to be very good players too, they wouldnt be interested in your Pedlar, Taylor even Nank fringe types.
Disagree. I think 3 first rounders is close enough to the mark that some handy plug-ins would complete the deal. Potentially an Edwards or Ryan if they’re considered more valuable.

Everyone expects us to be in the top 4 for the next three years. So three picks around the 16 level. In reality, if you wanted a top 5 pick, no one is going to trade you three pick 16s for it.
That's what St Kilda will be looking at. Port we expect to finish bottom 8 for the next few seasons, so two picks around 5 or 6 and a player like Whitlock would be far more around the mark than ours.

Anyway, I think its just academic at this point as I think we arnt in with a shot.

I actually think our list is in good enough shape to cope with giving up 3 firsts for NWM.

Thankfully for us, we've nailed our picks over the last few years which has given us a good enough core of younger players that missing three years wouldn't be a huge loss.

Saints played hard ball with the Brad Crouch trade. If NAS wants to come to the crows, I hope our club reminds them of this...

Until we get half a dozen injuries and slip out of the finals.

It wouldn't have taken too many injuries for any of the finalists to have ended up with 12 wins instead of 15, and they'd instead be tenth or eleventh.
