Interesting analysis.

We only have 15% of players in the 30+ category.

Pies, Saints & Blues all have around 40%, so they may struggle to replenish their older players. Blues probably in most hurt. Pies have more depth. Saints older players indict think are as good.

Suggests St Kilda are entering a rebuild
I was thinking the same, but how many crucial 30+ players do they have?

Reckon Blues are in real strife as dont have young talent of Saints coming through.

Pies likely to drop, but should still be competitive as have decent young talent too.

I agree that he won't/shouldn't be going anywhere because of the cultural issues this would create within the club/team.

However, if we were looking to move a player on in order to make the NWM trade happen, then Rachele would be the ideal candidate.
Why would he be the ideal candidate?

Well apparently it's saying that a big chunk of their rating points this year are coming from older players

Sinclair, Macrae, Hill and Wood all over 30. Marshall, Steele also turning 30 this year, which was included as 30 in the chart, and Wilkie not far behind.

So probably around a third of their best 22 are 29+

Carlton 30+
33 - Haynes
32 - Newman
31 - Docherty, Saad
30 - Williams, McGovern, Cripps

Only 1 gun, but Blues issue is they have crap depth to replenish these players.

Yeah, they had more than I realised.

Just listed them.

Quality player, with good trade value, but playing in one of the most replaceable positions on the field.

The fact that we haven't missed a beat in his absence, despite playing the likes of Pedlar & Taylor in his stead, speaks volumes about his replaceability.

Pies 30+
37 - Pendlebury
35 - Howe
34 - Sidebottom, Cox
32 - Elliott, Mihocek, Mitchell, Hoskin-Elliott
31 - Crisp, Membrey
30 - Cameron

Heck, that's half of their team!

What's a contracted Rachele worth on the open market?
Just talking trade pics, not salary.

Just on our out of contract players

Contracted until end of 2025
Kieran Strachan (inactive list)
Zac Taylor
Harry Schoenberg(R)
Lachlan Murphy
Matthew Crouch
Karl Gallagher (R, Cat B)
Brodie Smith
Taylor Walker
Hugh Bond
Chris Burgess(R)

Anything is possible but if we pick Bond for such a big game surely we offer him at least one more year. It would only be about the number of years for Taylor

Strachan we know about and Tex will be a wait and see. Smith will be another conversation at years end but I think we might push him out even if he wanted to.play on.

Its not looking good for Harry Schoenberg(R), Lachlan Murphy, Matthew Crouch, Karl Gallagher (R, Cat B) or Burgess

No way do we push Rash out. Absolute game breaker, pushing towards close to a 50 goal season at 22 years old as the 4th/5th forward. ANB, Keays, Rash and Rankine combo is John Wick level lethal at the feet of our 3 talls.

If Rash puts his hand up to leave, thats a different story. Rankine back forward, NAS to the middle. But I dont think Rash wants to go anywhere.

If NAS nominates us id prefer to only use draft picks. 2025 first and third, 2026 first with Saints 2025 third coming back. Id also gently remind the Saints of the Brad Crouch discussion where Brad picked the Saints and they played hard ball, we got unders.

If Nas nominates us AND Saints demand a player, and we have Rash putting his hand up to leave then id be wanting NAS and pick 5 for Rash, 2025 first, 2025 third and 2026 first. That way we would basically give up 2 late firsts and Rash for NAS and Sharp.

Loving how we currently have depth. Prefer to not trade Butts or Pedler. But Taylor, Jones, burgess, Mrouch, Smith, Sholl, borlase, cook, Laird could all be possibly talked into leaving for more opportunities at AFL level and wouldnt affect our overall position too much. Whether to the Saints or to other clubs for draft capital.

I feel like we have this conversation every year.

Best 22 players don’t get traded unless they ask to leave, and player-player swaps are extremely rare.

Rach is contracted, performing well and is happy here. He won’t be going.

If NWM does leave and requests us, the trade will be done with draft picks.

My guess:

Retire: Smith
De-list: Strachan, Schoenberg, Murphy, Burgess
Re-sign: Taylor (2 years), Walker (1 year, I reckon he may retire if we get a flag though), Bond (1 year, however wouldn’t be surprised if he gets another offer and we end up trading), Gallagher (I know nothing of him but assume a cat B will stay on)

Crouch is then the big question. I think he’s probably at the end of his time with us but it’s looked that way before, I would imagine West Coast would probably look at him if he wants consistent AFL footy, but I also get the vibe he’s content to play SANFL if he has to.

I’d offer Taylor one year, unless he’s getting better offers from other clubs

Will be interesting to see what happens with Crouch. Feels like he’d be reluctant to leave SA, so it depends how much he wants to keep a best 22 spot in an AFL side

Taylor's spot will be at risk from Draper next year you'd think, is he even in the team once Rach is back?
