Joel and his management are close to signing off on a new deal as I mentioned recently, mail is he's very happy at the Dogs and gets on well with Bevo. Calls Horsham home but still think there's very little hope of getting him. No reason why Charlie Edwards can't play similar roles, very similar attributes to Freijah....just needs the opportunity to show it, however I really don't like the way Charlie is being handled by the club thus far. Drafted as a mid/forward but all last season played half back or deeper.
its a crime edwards hasnt been given games

Hollands had a battle with alcohol, an issue he was aware was part of his family history.

“In some of the darker times, I turned to alcohol to cope with some of the stresses I had been putting myself under, and the mental fatigue and battles I had been going through.” Hollands said.

“I remember just feeling like a complete pedestrian out there. In the last quarter I came off the ground and I just could not breathe. I went to the bench and told our psychologist I could not breathe – I could not settle down, [and] my head was spinning. I was almost having a mini-panic attack, which I had never experienced before out on the field,” Hollands said.

I'm not absolutely sure any new rule can't prevent that. Unless they insert a 'no contact prior to tapping' type wording.

If so, this is a harsh rule change with zero notice. It is the AFL disadvantaging some clubs who have invested in a wrestling type ruck like ROB.. meanwhile, Brisbane recruit Sam Draper just as the Brisbane guy steps into the AFL rule change role. Coincidence?...hmm

I can foresee a scenario where due to 5 on the bench, two rucks play who interchange immediately after the 'jumping CBA specialist has contested. This leaves a 'field ruck' to play until the next CBA.

Maybe there's a immediate use for McAndrew? What's his leap like?

Thoughts anyone...?

I’d be surprised if we see a rule change preventing rucks from wrestling.

As much as it is better to see rucks run and jump, the shift to wrestling that a lot of the guys have made has followed those PCL injuries that occurred from knee contact. It’s why I suspect Thilthorpe looks to wrestle despite probably being better suited to running and jumping.

I think the AFLPA would have something to say if they did try to force rucks to run and jump at each other.

Given games would be the operative word ......hasn't deserved games
Obviously you didn't see the early part of last season where Charlie was easily one our most consistent players for weeks on end. If ever a player deserved a game it was him at that time, but instead we chose to played Smith because of course he was the future.
I loved Smith's career but the forward thinking of our clubs coaching staff is sometimes short sighted.

Not so, both Edwards and Ryan's form was deserving of at least a taste this season, only one way to find out if they're up to the speed of AFL, play them.

Edwards in particular IMO has a lot of the attributes we lack in our midfield mix yet we've banished him to playing half back or even deeper on occasions, a player we drafted as midfielder/forward.

It doesn't matter, if you're not playing good footy at the time opportunities arise

Edwards season fell away as the season progressed

Except an opportunity did arise, and Smith was picked instead.

This "experimentation attitude" amongst supporters is the thing that irks me most in footy

Newchurch the classic example ....a DUD ...but according to some, players can perform poorly in SANFL and flourish at AFL level
"We gotta have a look at Newchurch at AFL level " ......so where's this great talent ...on another AFL list (NO) ....a Rookie (NO)

And 9/10 of these posters wanting to see a shiny new toy ....they're the first to lay the boots in when they do play .....forget that it may not have been their time yet

And rightly so !!
Nope. Edwards was outperforming him at the time, and a spot was there after Hinge got suspended in the Freo loss, but it seems that Nicks panicked and went for experience instead.

Not sure which games you were watching then

Edwards is not Newchurch FFS, he has none of the obvious deficiencies in his game or attitude that he shares with Tariek Newchurch...NONE!!!

Newchurch was not a highly touted 1st round pick and was not drafted as a midfielder/forward.

Newchurch at least got to play the role he was drafted for in the SANFL.

You struggle with the context of my argument

And this whole playing the position drafted as, is a crock of **** ......this is not 1990 football anymore

Players have to be multi-position players now .....they either learn at SANFL level or AFL level

Hey Mutineer seems your ability to argue a point is limited to "I've seen him play LIVE" .....or the troll use of the smiley face

Maybe try using a rational & logical argument .....as if your eyes are the only ones who count .....and of course the 150 player names you slip into draft chats each year .....it's hard to be wrong, if you take the field in a race

I'm not the standing joke on this board bud, there are no contenders for that award that are even close to you
