List of 2017 Free Agents (Updated list in OP)

So who is more gettable out of the two big free agents this year - Nathan Fyfe or Dustin Martin? I'm leaning a little bit more towards Martin at this point because Freo still have the chance to name Fyfe as captain, which should mean he's less likely to leave. Which clubs have the cap room to go after these guys (probably need at least $1 million free in the salary cap) and are a realistic chance to land one?

St Kilda perhaps?

Realistically, you'd look at the sides with multiple 2017 first round picks for them as the starting point. Realistically, neither Fremantle nor Richmond will let either of these two walk, so you're going to see an RFA match and a trade happen.

So the only three sides with multiple firsts at this point are Richmond, St Kilda and Brisbane. You could also look at the Suns, who have 3 2nd rounders on top of their own pick, and could look to package all of those to shift up the order to a side looking to bring in a solid bracket of talent. Now, you would expect that the Tigers aren't going to want mid-firsts on top of their already-existing picks, unless the whole side has collapsed and they need a full rebuild. They've already got two firsts, and while four picks in the first is a massive basis for a rebuild, it's going to come at the cost of your best player. They could offer them up to the Dockers, but that also compromises their lack of forward and back depth and their chance to rebuild properly.

Brisbane will certainly make an offer to both. However, it's highly doubtful that either pick the Lions based on track record.

So St Kilda. Now, every St Kilda supporter and their dog has been pumping up their tyres over landing Fyfe. The problem, as I see it, is that by throwing that kind of deal at Fyfe it compromises their rebuild from a salary-cap perspective. You've recruited Carlisle on reasonable dollars, just had to re-sign Bruce and you'll have both Membrey and McCartin hit big contracts soon. Furthermore, if the Saints' youth is as good as we're told, they're all going to need money too. But then, I think if you're St Kilda you try to land him anyway - Fyfe upgrades them from lower-half-of-the-eight to premiership contender.

If it's money and cap space then you'd be hard to out bid us but we would need to play above expectation next year to draw in a big fish
It'd be a hard sell to join North right now. A young, up and coming team like St Kilda that has cap room is far more appealing for a big free agent.
And for the OP josh Kennedy from swans and Birchall have re-signed
Cheers mate. OP updated.

We'll be able to match any offer. Who else are we paying decent coin to?

We'll clear out a fair few mature players over the next 2-3 years too. If the rumours about us trying to rebuild through the draft are accurate, then we'd be able to keep some serious coin.

I had greater fears on Neale leaving. Fyfe leaving? Yeah don't think so in the slightest.
At the very least, you'll be paying through your teeth to keep him.

I wouldn't necessarily assume Fyfe would cost them massive dollars (i.e. 1 mil a year or more) we have seen a lot of free agents not go to the highest bidder but to where they think they can play finals and win finals, for example other Vic clubs offered more money to Geelong than Dangerfield did and Hawthorn weren't the highest $ bidder for Frawley but he chose there for prospects of success. If Fyfe thinks St Kilda will contend he may take less money from them over the other clubs that offer more money. Also St Kilda know they will have Riewoldt and Montagna retire in a year or two which frees up most of Fyfe's salary there.

Re your Geelong list you need to add Lonergan who is unrestricted (like Mackie) and you have left off Josh Cowan who will be 8 year unrestricted (he wouldn't be in our top 25 % of money earners). Motlop will definitely be restricted and Menzel may be restricted or unrestricted (unsure if he is in our top 25 % salary whereas Motlop definitely is).

Lonergan added to OP. I'll save the rest until the AFL releases their official 2017 free agency list so we avoid guesswork.

Cowan signed for 1 year at the end of trade week in 2016 (club released that on their website) and is in his 8th year in 2017 so you can add him in if you want.

I wonder if Josh Kennedy (westcoast) is a chance to go anywhere.
I reckon a team pushing for a flag would be willing to part with some big coin for him if his gettable. Essendon could be one if they have a good year

I wouldn't have thought so, he's just such an important player for the Eagles atm and I get the feeling that he's too settled to make a move. I'm pretty sure most clubs would have made enquiries on him in the trade period for quite a while now but I think he'll stay at the Eagles for the rest of his career.

One of the problems Saints have is that the club has barely reached 95% of its salary cap, and only then by front ending contracts and extending contracts to many of the lads who we think are about to have break-out seasons.

We have so much room we almost need to land a big name FA. This is before the club can carry forward its banked savings in future salary cap years and before some of our highly paid stars like Riewoldt and Montagna retire.

Ameet Bains has created a massive war chest in our salary cap. If we don't land Fyfe I suspect our focus will turn to GWS. There will also be further contract extensions to lock in young talent.

So who is more gettable out of the two big free agents this year - Nathan Fyfe

It has been said that the crows are very confident in landing Fyfe.

Exactly which crows though is the question? Is it the club or the fans making those noises?

So that makes Hawks (salary cap room dumping legends), Carlton (lunch with SOS), St Kilda (Burke & Kozi stating publicly) & now Adelaide as confident clubs, not to mention Freo fans generally think he is staying. He will have Dale Kickett's record (playing for 5 AFL clubs) covered in one year!

Jake Spencer worth chasing? He seems to have broken out this preseason and is of course originally from Queensland. Wouldn't be overly surprised to see either the Lions or Suns chasing him.

Don't see the Lions chasing him our forwardline should be fine with Hipwood Schache Ballenden and Archie Smith in the ruck our future is already set Suns may chase him as a ruckman

Fyfe is not coming to the Crows. There is no Crows fan that genuinely believes this at all.

Hoping is different to expecting.
