Today danger and thompson killed us in the centre clearances.
To be honest I'm a bit worried by the state of our list, which I never dreamed of saying this time last year. There is just to much of a gap between the NOW and the FUTURE and I don't see where the improvement is going to come from next season. Wingard and Gray couldn't possibly play any better. Boak is doing all he is capable of. Schultz and Monfries have hit the wall and I'm not sure how much longer before Westhoff reaches the same point. Broadbent and Ebert have been exposed as average footballers with average skills. Trengove moves like a 40 year old man, and both he and Carlile are injury prone- don't see that changing.
Room for improvement next season = Wines (solid but still hasn't reached potential), Hartlett (Who knows if he will ever reach his potential), Polec returning to the side, and making the Lobbe/Ryder combination click. Other than that we have a list of inevitable downhill skiers, most of which are some of our most important players, and a bunch of youthful fringe players being rotated in and out of the team. The key is for this youth (Wingard and Wines the obvious exceptions) to rise to the occasion before the likes of Schultz, Westhoff, Trengove, Carlile are past their best because they aren't going to be easy to replace in the short term, and judging by current trends I doubt we have much time to make that happen.
Need to absolutely smash the draft.

Lol I don't know who you are , but this is a massive massive over reaction. We have a tonne of young talent. We are just lacking some pieces , and trying to paper over those missing pieces with a gameplan.
Clurey for Bird.
Sure, we have a lot of young talent, never said we didn't...but so do Gold Coast and look how far that's getting them. To be successful, at least in the short term like everyone on here expects, a team needs the correct balance on their list. To make it clear, I'm questioning the older players more so than the youth because a lot of them seem to be on the downward spiral and may not be able to contribute what is required to get this team up into premiership contention right now. To win premierships in a competition as ruthless as the AFL the stars need to allign perfectly and I'm not saying they won't but I just have some concerns about a few important players.
Why the hell would we trade a 20 year old key defender who is playing afl for a 25 year old who is struggling to get a game in syd?
If we want bird he wouldn't come that dear , nor should we part with a good young defender that is contracted.
Haven't really looked but any chance of doing a 1st for a Shaun Burgoyne type trade that Hawthorn did?
I'm not sure you appreciate how deep the Sydney midfield runs, I think the trade proposal looks reasonable, but not sure Bird is a player we need.
Edit: Seems like you're just in a bad mood which is understandable.
Sydney would do that. Don't think we should though. Would like Bird though. Or Hewitt.Clurey for Bird.
Aaron Black still being under contract (I think?) is a problem. North may be a bit delusional about his value as a trade. Would have at the right price.Aaron Black, yay or nay? (the North Melbourne player, not the cowboy from Mortal Kombat X), apparently we're interested
and what're the chances of Aaron Francis sliding to pick ~7-8?
Where is this young talent? Why the hell would we trade a 20 year old key defender who is playing afl for a 25 year old who is struggling to get a game in syd?
