Firstly I admit I have never seen the kid play but I know one of the coaches out at the Stingrays and he said that he wouldnt be drafting Elton with a 1st rounder. His knock is that he doesnt have footy smarts. Should have the athletic ability but not convinced he will make it at AFL level.

For mine, that is too big a risk & not worth using our 1st rounder on.

He expects Buntine to be the highest selected Stingray

Throw in P12 this year and go for both!

Imo two first rounders will get pick 2 in this draft, so to get pick one as well you will need to add something better than two first rounders.... do we have 5 of them?

And in this i would give up two first rounders for Crouch without blinking, think he will be a fantastic pick.

Only query being weather the team will be better with another "gun" type recruit or two players the likes of Gysberts, to have the talent run deeper

Realistically GWS have to trade at least one of the picks this year. Their value will be determined by the market and a clubs ability to trump one another. Whilst Jaggier may be worth a number 1 draft pick no one has it to trade it. We are as well positioned as anyone to capitalise. We have 2 x compo picks and a "relatively" decent 1st round selection this year. If it means using them all and trowing in a player, maybe even an Aaron Davey to get the picks then I say do it.

3 x first round selections (2 that can be used at their leisure) and a player is a very good deal for a couple of kids that GWS could only ever get one of.

Lachie Whitfield>O'Meara and Crouch. GWS would rather have Whitfield who they will take with Pick 1 in 2012.

Spot on. So why not take these 2 ou of the reach of the clubs around them, whilst loading up on first round selections in the very same draft.

That makes sense. So it stands to reason that our offer of two compensation picks which can be used in the top 15 of the 2012 draft plus pick #12 in the 2011 draft plus a few seasoned players would work in getting us picks 1 & 2 in the 2011 chapter of the GWS 17 year olds mini-draft.

If I was GWS I would avaoid trading with any of the clubs that will compete with them when they are ready for finals (Melbourne, WCE, Collingwood, GC17 etc).

Even if they cant get the best deal for themselves, it would be prudent not to strengthen their competitors..

Better to strengthen one team that to strengthen quite a few.

Re: Looking to the 2012 draft

KEY FORWARDS!!! That won't be our only answer, but its going to help... :)

Ahmed Saad from the Northern Bullants.

21 years old and ready to go now.

Lightning quick (I beleive he just broke a sprint record of some description yesterday) small forward with excellent defensive pressure and a sound goal sense.

Let's try and trade round 3 or 4 pick for him to GWS as he's a pre-listed pick like Krakouer last year.

Bio;

Ahmed Saad (VIC - Fwd)
Height: 176cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 09/10/1989
Recruited from: Northern Bullants
Style: Andrew Krakouer
Player comparison:
Range: 45-rookie
Profile: Probably the best crumbing forward going around in the VFL. Comes from a soccer background. Really creative right foot goal sneak. Knows where the goals are. Reads the play incredibly well. Has nice speed. Gives really good tackling effort consistently and works hard whenever the ball is anywhere near his area. Very right foot reliant and needs to continue working on creating a left foot.

As much as it hurts to say Gazza, it's clear that we won't be chasing any of the 17 year old kids. I know, I know, you're busting a nut at home waiting for us to cough up the picks for one of these kids but it's clear from every report we have seen that we don't seem to have any interest what so ever in doing it.

Just hold out for those picks to be used next year in a strong draft. One will go to Viney, the other two on kids - unless we crack finals next year and decide to trade one for an established player as they'll have more currency.

My only concern with that approach is that it set's us back a bit, we should either be looking to secure an elite young talent or trade the picks for a talented young midfielder ie. Dangerfield or Boak (just names opposition supporters)

Ahmed Saad from the Northern Bullants.

Would love him & I'd put our round 2 pick on the table for him, but highly GWS will let him go at all, especially so cheap.

His older cousin (?) Saad Saad played in the GVFL for while after trialling with Collingwood, kicked about 90 goals in a year for about 3-4 years in a row, had a mark he took in the Grand final make almost footy legends final (maybe won it). Plenty thought he could've transferred his skill to AFL, but he was more an undersized key marking target.

Came on here to post exactly your thoughts, he will be a perfect fit for what we need has pace and skill to burn. Hopefully we could get a deal done with GWS to pre-select him like other did with GC last year. I would be happy to take a punt and offer up our pick in the 30's.

Fair enough :p I'm pretty sure we'll have a ping but I doubt that we will go all out like other clubs will. Probably just put up a basic offer and then leave it.

Ahmed Saad hasn't actually been on a list before. But I don't think John Ceglar had been either, and the GC still pre-listed him.

Maybe it's just if they've nominated for a draft before?

2011 Draft Combine Top 10 results are on the AFL website

A player not rated too highly who has tested really well is Elliot Yeo from East Fremantle, 188cm midfielder. Pretty skinny at 73kg, but good height for midfielder & has a few tricks in his bag.

Won the agility test with 7.80 seconds. To give some perspective that's the 2nd quickest time draft combine/camp ever I think, only bettered by Stephen Hill's 7.77s in 2008. Only about 10 players have broken 8.0s in the last 5 years (Watts was 2nd his year with 8.03s).

Also has biggest standing vertical jump at a huge 78cm (equal with Naitanui) & equal 7th running vertical leap with 85cm. Kicking tested well, finished equal 2nd with 26/30 (87%). Averaged 22.2 disposals, 4 tackles & 1 goals playing Colts this year. Also on the young side having just turned 18 this month

I know testing isn't everything, but some have rated this guy only a rookie chance & other have said as high as late 2nd or 3rd round, this was before the testing. Wouldn't mind him if still available at our last pick

Good work mate, at face value that does seem very impressive. I'll be keeping my eye on him now.
