there are 3 things I look at when assessing any trade options.

1) Do we need them.
2) what do we have to give up for them.
3) Have we got what the other team wants.

now usually we need to tick all the boxes for a possible trade to make it on these fine pages but with Luke Ball only 1 is tickable.

1) Do we need him. YES
2) what do we have to give up for them. Too Much
3) Have we got what the other team wants. Dont think so

So adding him to our roster would undoubtably help Kerr and Priddis and it would also give Masten more ability to moveas he wouldn't be tagged as much as he developes.
So what possible trade do you think could be done to get Luke Ball to our club with out sacrificing our core.

The only players I could think of thats Saints might be interested in is:

Brent Staker- But would likely mean we give up our first pick as well
Matt Rosa- But would likely mean we give up our first pick as well
Mitch Brown- But would likely mean we give up our 2nd pick as well.

And I would say that with those options we would lose out.
What do you think.

I'd be very disappointed if the club even thought about this!!

Why would a Victorian player, who'd almost certainly have the option of staying in Victoria, want to move to Western Australia?

Believe it or not, footballers aren't indifferent about moving to the other side of the country.

We should forget about guys like Ball and Delidio.

Not for that reason but because the draft is a better option. We dont need washed up midfielders we need small forwards/ backs. Flankers and another KPD/ KPF.

I think the Essendon game showed us that we dont need another midfielder! Especially a Victorian whos never lived up to his potential due to his injury!!

If we were looking at getting an established midfielder next year which I think would be a pretty good idea we should target Joel Corey.

Steve Johnson comes out of contract next season and Joel Selwood is going to be on a big contract soon, so I think we should look at signing Corey next year for 3 years.

He turned 27 this year, is a WA boy and Geelong can afford to get rid of him given they have such a strong midfield division that he can't even fit into anymore.

Not sure what we would have to give up to get him but I think he is worth making a play for next year if the right price is right.

I think we should continue to fill our list from the draft.

:):) EA is starting to get warmed up on his trading scenarios... ahh yes, its August.

Points 2) and 3) are pretty much the same thing really. You also forgot 4) Try and involve at least 4 clubs in the trade. :D:D

And no, pass on Ball. Not that he would be traded or would likely want to come over here even if he was trade bait. Dodgy groins... don't we f***ing have enough of them in our squad already!!!

Don't think Ball is worth pursuing.

Wouldn't mind Corey, but the price would be very, very steep.

Give up our first pick straight swap for J.Selwood. Make it a triple selwood attack.

Then get Troy and make a stupid tv show called "When Selwoods Attack!"....

I reckon there's really only one criteria for you: "Did it pop into my head at some point?"

If the answer is yes, you'll start a thread about it.

Tell us again how 9 wins will be enough to play finals this year.

Ahh Gunnar I was thinking along the same lines.:thumbsu:

Luke Ball is exactly the type of player that would go to another club and excel more than he currently is.

Really? Why? Will he be less injury prone somewhere else? Will they have the magical key that unlocks the miracle cure to the cursed OP?

Dave (???) Misson is one of the best conditioning coaches going around in the AFL, if not the best (was formerly with Sydney) and is a huge reason for the turnaround in the Saints' injury woes. If he and his staff are having troubles getting Ball right I don't like the chances of any other team getting him sorted.

He's a good trade target in the sense that he's out of favour, experienced, but could still offer quite a bit to a suitable club.

We are not a suitable club.

You can only play so many inside midfielders at one point. Priddis, Kerr and Masten are our three best. Ebert and Swift are also capable and played the position over the weekend. Cockie plays inside, as do McNamara and Shuey. If we do go after an experienced inside mid it should be a bigger bodied one who can provide better protection for what we've already got.

A Grade midfielder 25 or under - Yes

He has played 137 games for the Saints and if he turned around and said play me or Ill walk they would play him everyday of the week. He seems to be unlucky rather then not rated, I dont think he is even remotely on the radar to leave his club. Why would he when there premiership window is open after all of these years going through crap to get there, im sure hed rather fight hard to break into this team then start all over again in a team that is on the bottom.

If he had a premiership with them, liked money and still wasent getting a game in a years time then we might be in with a chance.

if we're going to target anyone it should be tambling... would be well suited to subi

I think we would have a better chance at Wells, a bit older and every bit as talented. Tambling has started to be consistant and is a required player in the starting 18, they wont let him go. Wells, like Tambling will fetch a pretty high price though first rounder at least, the best we could give would be a second rounder and a good player.
