25 years old, he's been dropped by the Saints for this weekends game. He isn't injuried, and has been fit for a while now but just seems to be out of favour because of the quality of depth in the St Kilda midfield.

I know we've got our share of young midfielders coming through but at 25, and a hard-nut whose won a B&F, could you not enquire? We've got our hard-running, outside mids, but we could use one more Luke Ball type if he'd become out of favour at St Kilda.

Thoughts?

If you balance up what the expense is vs our needs then he would be a definite no IMO.

I honestly don't think we should look at trading in any players unless a mature ruckman becomes available.

He wont be going anywhere but hypothetically speaking he would cost too much.
IMO i reckon we have seen the best of him to be honest, Injuries and the increasing speed of the game are not in his favour for the future, good player still but cant really see him improving from now on.

Is he any good in the ruck?

I think that the hole I'd be filling with any excess moolah.

would love him fill the void of obree, however i agree with getting a decent ruck first. Why o why have we not made plays for jolly, gardener or even king in the past.

Cos there was so much hype around Cameron Wood it wasnt deemed necessary. The Saints picked up King with pick 90 or thereabouts didnt they? What did we get? Corrie!!!!!!!!!

If we fail again this year alot will have to do with the ruck (AGAIN!!).

F****n joke.

Luke Ball...

With O'Bree getting on in age, and Stanley not really adapting to AFL level so far I think going after Luke Ball would be a great idea. He is tough as nails and great around the stoppages. His kicking is shit house, however I think we can teach him to handball more to our outside mids who use it really well.

Would you want him?
What would you give up to get him?

Discuss.

Re: Luke Ball...

1. Yes
2. First round pick (Collingwood first pick would be around 14-16)

I don't think he would leave the saints though.

No worries, it wasn't on the first couple of pages, but it was fairly recent, so I merged them.

As for the actual qn, I'd be fairly strongly against getting him. Partly because I think he's been consistently over-hyped throughout his career, but mainly because we have more than enough inside types as it is.

If we go after any mid, it should be an outside type with good skills to take over from Didak/Davis down the line, or fill in for them when they're injured.

Re: Luke Ball...

I'm all for getting him. I don't think we have any midfielders who are are ferocious around the stoppages as he is, he can really inspire a team by the way he goes about it. I see Swan as more of a wing player than a pure inside midfielder so the centre bounces would look something like -

Fraser, Ball, Davis & Beams

I agree with mdc. I'm sure we have Beams, Sidebottom & McCarthy that will grow into O'Brees role.

Luke Ball is a solid contributor but would cost more then he is worth.

I rather chase Brett Deledio. Quick outside mid with good skills.

Slow and cant kick, hell no do we want him... Cannot even kick a goal from 40.

If anyone I agree Deledio would be perfect, we should throw our 1st rounder and a decent player, I would even consider Medhurst and our 1st rounder..
