Re: Luke Ball

dont worry about getting ball we should go after armitage. in and under player who is quick and only 21. wouldnt cost as much and more of a future
armo would cost you more than ball. the only palce armo will go will be GC17, but he is ours and will be a perma feature in our 22 in 2010.

Re: Luke Ball

Ball only had 40% game time for the Granny. Surely that means something even if he is in the best 22. There is something going on there, and i get the feeling he's out of favour in a big way.

And he played well

I think he'd be great as a transition player so we could put O'Bree out to pasture before Beams and Sidebottom come through. Though he doesn't have penetration in his kicking, we do have players who can provide it. What Ball gives is a contest at all times.

I think a second rounder would get him given Lyon's contempt. But I think he really loves the mateship at St Kilda and will be hard to move, even for better career prospects.

Re: Luke Ball

Prety sure it was 46%

Ball for Cloke? Win win :)
It seems your coach is adamant he is gone, could go real cheap

Re: Luke Ball

Spoke to some close mates of Luke Ball's at his brother's GF a couple of weeks ago. He is very unhappy at the Saints and it is likely that he could be going else where.

Jason Cloke isn't on our list anymore, he's the only Cloke who would be worth a straight trade for Luke Ball.:)

Re: Luke Ball

We are not interested according to Robbo.. Beams, Sidebottom and MCarthy are all extractors and the club is looking for more run/pace
According to Robbo Blue unicorns run around Flinders street and an off Calamari Salad wiped out the Aztecs, thats how much i rate Robbo's insight.

Absolutely baffling if we don't have a look at him. Yeah we have Sidey, Beams and McCarthy and they have all 10 years to look forward to at the club, doesn't mean we shouldn't throw in an experienced and well groomed midfielder to help with their development and growth.
No need to burn them out early on, the rigours of playing as an inside mid can cripple a young bloke.

Not excusing the fact that at this precise stage in time, none of those three are even remotely close to playing big periods of time in the guts let alone big periods in there as extractors. They are all still very let on and I wouldn't (personally) consider any of them to be an out and out inside mid anyway.

Ball would fit perfectly IMO, suits our rotation plan very well also, gives us a chance to give all those guys small periods in the middle to chop out someone like Ball.

Baffles me to hear we are supposedly interested in Davey when Ball could be on the market. Between Davis, Didak, Thomas and Wellingham I think we are pretty well covered for streaky outside mids.

Re: Luke Ball

What would Luke Ball cost? Let's say our second round pick and a player, as I can't see StKilda trading him for less then that.

So it costs us Shannon Cox (just a suggestion) and this years Dayne Beams (last years late second round pick).

I'd take Drum instead, will only cost a 3rd round draft pick, has no injury worries like Ball, and he has the upside of being a Fremantle reject, and plenty of them have improved at other clubs, including ours.

Steele Sidebottom will be a better player then Luke Ball from next year on, if he isnt already, why waste a draft pick and a player on an injury prone mid who only plays well in the wet.

But all of this is besides the point, WE NEED KEY POSITION PLAYERS AND A RUCKMAN.

Or it costs us Shannon Cox and 2005's (I cbf'ed looking up the year) Ryan Cook, not taking into account the draft tapers off badly after the top 15. This years draft will mimic 2007's quite closely (McCarthy would go top 20), which saw us taking Toby Thoolen at a pick in the 40's.

Drum isn't a key position player and he'll end up costing more than a 3rd rounder. Some bloke mentioned Drum is hard as nails which is bullshit, one of the main reasons Drum couldn't get a game was because of the meekness he continually showed in the weights room and on the training track, he supposedly has the tenacity of a wet tissue.
They tried to develop him to play KPP but he couldn't put on weight or muscle and they found themselves with a pretty average rebounding defender, something we hardly need.

I rated Drummy as a junior, but his attitude at Freo certainly doesn't have me jumping out of my skin at the chance of getting him. He wouldn't get a game with a back six anyway, especially with Brown and Reid as significantly better prospects.

Ridiculous to suggest Sidebottom is better than Ball at the moment. Not only is it comparing to completely different players (Sidey *may* become an inside mid, but at this stage he is absolutely nowhere near it. For the sake of the argument he averages under 2 CP's a game and that won't change dramatically for a few years I'd imagine) in contrast Luke Ball managed 22 possessions (10 contested) and 7 tackles in 46% game time in the biggest game of the year against the best opposition possible. He was amongst the Saints best in the first half with only his lack of game time preventing him from being one of their best for the game.
Sidebottom had 10 touches and was virtually unsighted against the Cats in our last game.

Sidebottom is a great prospect, but if I needed an extractor (and we do, O'Bree is 32 now and none of the kids will instantly take the mantle) I'm pretty sure I know who I'd pick.
Ball has missed under 10 games through injury in the last 5 years as well, so that tidbit is a bit overblown as well.

Re: Luke Ball

If you think back to last year when we beat the Saints twice, in one of those games Luke Ball was BOG in a losing side. He just kept winning the footy in close.

I really concerned over his longevity in the game though therefore not happy to part with a 1st rounder. You are still going to get a pretty good player. Especially with Hine driving the bus.

Re: Luke Ball

Hits the ball and the man very hard, could do a lot worse for a fat lazy spud like Cox.

Maybe not fat, but lazy would definitely sum up Drummy. Threw in the towel completely this year and supposedly had a massive sook about playing in the WAFL which showed because he was terrible at that level.

He wouldn't push anyone out of our current back six so I don't really see the point to be honest.

Definately must get him, although St.Blunder would not part with him.
Former captain, AA, B & F winner.........No Chance we could get him without giving up plenty.

Ross Lyon is too clever to let that happen.....:)

If you balance up what the expense is vs our needs then he would be a definite no IMO.

I honestly don't think we should look at trading in any players unless a mature ruckman becomes available.

Haha... at least I got the ruckman part right.

Although my reasoning was based on what the expense was for him. At the time I was expecting that we would need to part with one of our young guns for him and didn't in my wildest dreams think that pick 30 would be enough.

This thread does show that a few supporters have maybe changed their view on Ball though...

HAHAHA

Yeah plenty have changed the tune

Matty123 has a photo of him now lol

Very funny how everyone is bagging him in this thread and now they are all in love with him.

If we can get him in the 2nd round I'd pull the trigger. He'd come to us too cause we rock n stuff. Save pick 1 for a ruck tho. Rumour has it Jolly wants to come home to Vic. Bookmark it!
