the forgotton musketeer!
still remember Richo called him the strongest bloke at the club. He often got big KPF to stand and did ok - persistent critisism of him taking the game on and spazzing it up, al la early Rance. 2 big white poles are your friends in this case, given that there is a go for home option that will mostly make som kinda sense.

Hope he gets a solid run of games.
Liked Miller mostly, who was always going to be the 'filling a role' fwd, but glad to have McG back in the 1s - still havent seen the Melb game so looking fwd to seeing McG next week.

I've always liked the guy as a person, and he was an alright stay at home dmen when we needed him. Happy for him to be back in the side as long as he's producing. If he keeps it up for the rest of the games he gets he shouldn't be McGone anymore but rather McGun!

Hey, I'm all for a bloke who can clunk some contested marks up forward.

Not confident watching him kick for goal, but Hawkins, Reid and Thomas couldn't kick either, but still played important roles for their team. I think people under-estimate just how much more dangerous we were up forward with Vickery in 2011 form. That's been sorely missed this year and while McGone might not be the long term answer, he's already done his job much better than Miller or Vickery this year. Play him forward as long as necessary IMO.

Luke is not as bad as most make out, a lot of the problems up forward is simple Jack leads so wide to the pockets he is only 20% chance anyway, plus he loses confidents after few misses. This makes it so easy for backman to knock it out which clogs the forwardline on throw in. Deep pockets should be left for smalls to run out there when jacks double teamed.

Harsh description but I think the bottom line is Luke isn't good enough to take us to a flag. Just doesn't have the smarts or the skills and has been given plenty of opportunites. Playing up forward will expose even greater flaws/deficiencies. ie kicking.

True, but all teams need depth and against Melbourne he has come in to replace injured players and done his job, whether he can sustain that is another matter, but he may get an extension as a depth player if he can keep up the good work, he is a better option than Miller and may be able to replace him, after all Miller is only around for depth and experience and I think Luke would be the better option for this role.

He'll never be more than McAdequate IMO, but so long as he can play on a par with Miller (which shouldn't be too hard even for him) I'm happy for him to be in the side

How are all the list managers on this thread! Go get a job with a club FFS!
We should be happy to be proven wrong by our players. I was happy as hell with "MCGONE".
i hope he gets a bag this week! i've always loved his bullish/competitive nature. Is he a star, NO, but he can compete.

I see no reason to delist the guy seeing he gives 100 percent every time he plays.

Even if he's a depth player, he can come in and cover FB, CHB, CHF or FF if we need him to. Worth persisting with at CHF for the rest of this year to see what happens.

What impressed me about his game against Melbourne was his forward pressure. Also, he did the team thing and tried to set up his teammates, at times to no avail, such as his handball to Jack in the goal square. He can also clunk them which means it might slow down the opposition by holding the ball and preventing them from rebounding the ball and counter attacking. My biggest concern is his accuracy in kicking goals as he has been wasteful at Coburg.

Sorry for bump, I didn't want to create a whole new thread.

Very strong chance this guy will be playing in quite a few games in 2013. There has been a very mixed bag of opinions: the haters, the doubtfuls and the hopefuls.
What will it take for McGuane to lose the whipping boy tag? Or more to the point..

What is the pass mark for McGuane in 2013???

A 30 goal season and heaps of tackles would be a pass for me. Will get much less quality opposition this year.

Will probably have to kick 100 goals to lose the whipping boy tag though. :D

I'm not basing this off the All Stars game. But from watching the replays off 2012 on Fox Footy I'm prepared to admit to being wrong on McGuanne. There are far worse depth players than this guy running around and keeping him on the lift was an good decision by the club. For where he is on the list and what the other options were I think keeping him and grabbing A. Edwards were good moves, they will both perform to a higher level than a Todd Elton, who albeit has more talent.

He keeps proving people wrong does our Lukey. If he keeps his s form up through the nab cup he may well be in front of A Edwards for a forward birth rnd 1.

Pass mark for me - When he gets his opportunities he contributes positively to the team. Maybe 25 goal season would be a pass mark given he will likely be sharing game time with others.

In an ideal world he won't play a game next year.
If everything goes well Riewoldt, Vickery, Elton, Astbury or Griffiths will fill the KPF spots.
McGuane playing is not a prefered option make no mistake.

*EDIT: That being said I'll admit he's a better forward option than he is a defender.

Pass is to be competitive when he is needed in the side. Hopefully our top guys all stay fit and play 22 good games. He is then VFL all year. More realistically he will play 10 ish games and if he fills his spot i am happy. That is 15+ goals as a forward, or a decent stopping job as a back.
