Yeah that's another way of looking at it. Even if he isn't as good as I expect, they still have an incredibly solid combo of Patfull and Goose Maguire to round it out. I also think Hanley and Golby between them will step up (not that Hanley wasn't very good last year) to cover Drummond.

I do rate Patfull and Maguire. I enjoyed seeing Maguire play well. Poor bugger.

I look at their team and it is solid, but it is still a fair way off challenging for the 8 IMO. It comes down to size. Maybe a solid year this year and another year of development (mids lacking in size still - and Black is still their go to man). Also Brown is no spring chicken and I don't rate their forward line.

I am happy to see them rot away at the bottom - especially with Voss as coach!!! I don't forget

Tex is also far less experienced. The penny dropped last year, and he will destroy the comp this year. I'll be multi-ing his Coleman into my preseason Brownlow bets.

He can win the Coleman and play at a lower standard than last year. Expect him to be targetted. He is a moron (the dumbest bloke at the club) and if he struggles with the attention who knows. But I expect him to play deeper and get far more delivery - the Fevola effect. Kick plenty of goals, yet the fwd line still isn't good enough as it is too one-dimensional (although Adelaide has far better small fwds than Carlton ever had with Fev - hence they will be top 8 easily).

I don't think they'll make the 8, simply because there's too many teams vying for it. As I see it, the teams are split into the following groups:

Adelaide, Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Fremantle, Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney, West Coast (1-9)
Brisbane, North, Richmond (10-12)
Gold Coast, GWS, Melbourne, Port, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs (13-18)

I'd be shocked if any of those teams finished anywhere more than 1-2 spots outside those ranges, and especially if the bottom 6 changed. Brisbane will win 10-13 and fall short IMO.

I don't doubt it. All comes down to how he goes with all the extra attention, because let's face it, he is now the lynchpin of their attack and will be the focus of the opposition in terms of strategy and double/triple teaming. He won't have it as easy, but he will get more ball directed to him ala Buddy.

I really do think Carlton will stumble out of the gate, sure MM can coach, but teams can take a while to adapt to new gameplans and they have a tough opening draw.

Carlton im finding really hard to rate, are they on the way out and missed their chance or do they have another tilt in them, im leaning towards the earlier. They still have a very good depthy midfield a nice enough forward line with the small quick forwards + Waite + decent resting ruck. Backline needs to come together again Duigan, Yarran, Jamison, laidler all dropped off by a fair margin last year.

As for players i expect Porplyzia, Shaw, Duffield, Heppell, Kerr, Hale, Gray, Horsley, Bolton to have massive years

Port and Melbourne for me.

Port have some nice players like Heath, Stevenson, Pittard coming into that defence to add some solidity if not lots of flair, plus Blee looked promising late last year. Gray, Schulz and Butcher will surely get more game time this year, and the players will play for the coach. That's enough to get 5-7 wins with home ground advantage.
