Lou (God bless him) reckons it's a tragedy that MM is off the Carlton.

Will unfold into a comedy (of errors), IMO.

I thought Mick said he wasn't gonna talk to Carlscum or anyone until after October.

MM is a compulsive liar. Towards the end of his reign at our club I was getting sick of his bullshit with every week that was going by. Now I can't stand the bloke.

He is like Sheedy. Always talks about himself. Thank god he isn't at the Pies anymore. Good riddance.

It's the worse possible thing to swap from us to those scumbags. Not sure how he can ever go to the 10 year premiership reunion after going to them.
I have great respect for MM as a coach, and I love the way that he treats the press when they ask stupid, inane or ill informed questions. However what happened to the bloke that espoused the philosophy players should always leave the game with something left in the tank rather than playing to the death and being remembered as a aged hack because they had stayed too long ( or does this only apply to players not coaches). He advised some of our great players that this was the thing to consider as they approached the end of their respective careers. Apparently that's the advice for others but it doesn't apply to him. He also said that it is a terrible thing to circle a current coaching position where the incumbent still has a contract to run. Not only has he leapt straight in after Ratten was sacked but his statement to the media about being ready to coach again (immediately after Carltoon lost to Gold Coast) and then following up with "next year or never" was a direct message to Carltoon that if they got on with sacking Ratten then he was available. If he has or does now sign on with Carltoon then I, regrettably, will have lost all respect for the man. How can I respect some-one that states things as being principles, but then does the opposite. Make no mistake MM not only has metaphorically got Rattens' blood on his hands but he is still holding the knife.

Mick has plenty of faults that have been all laid out in here already and most of them i agree with. The hypocrisy, the ego in particular. One thing that worries me about him coaching Carlton is his players have always believed in him and given their all. They never seemed to mind about any of that and worked their rings off for him.

So despite his faults, the fact is he is a good coach. Hopefully Carlton are shit enough to counter all that

This should put an end to the "Biggest Rivalry" debate, at the very least.

Yes. And it should put and end to that nonsense that our club always spouts that " ... the players don't treat Carlton differently to any other team, the rivalry is only really something that the fans get into ..."

Lol rubbish. Succession plan costed a premiership.
Some say it won us one too. Either way, I'm glad we got at least one.

On MM, I was a staunch supporter even when he did things that really annoyed me. By taking on this role he has shown himself to be what he really is. This year he has really distanced himself from the Collingwoodfc faithful which is a real shame that a premiership coach will now be viewed this way. Hopefully in time his bitterness and ego will diminish and we can welcome him back into the fold.

This is nothing more then an ego trip for MM trying to show us that we were wrong. That is a poor motive for taking on a club that has treated a club legend shabbily and he'll eventually feel that same wrath. It's what carlton does.

No doubt this is a short term fix for carlton. Judd will be 30 next year and any premiership hopes rest squarely with his ability to play a big role in his teams success. Kernahan knows this, so does Swann? MM has 3 years for a flag and carlton won't be as patient as we were with Mick.

People forget Malthouse didnt leave he was basically sacked. He still wanted to coach then and still does now. His first choice was Collingwood. Lets hope he doesnt come back and rub it in our noses like Leigh Matthews did with the Brisbane Lions. If it does happen it will be 100 times worse this time than what happened with Mathtews.

The succession plan won us a premiership.

Not hypothetically but actually, in real life.

I watched it. It happened.

It may win us another this year and even another next.

Please stop living in the past. If only you can accept that the now is not so bad, we finished 4th, looking not too bad, with a second chance if we don't win Friday. There are a lot of supporters that are envying our position. Please move on.

Leigh Matthews? Clutching at straws with that example. He was cooked and knew that he'd have to rebuild. No one seriously thought that he would last another contract. He was out for three seasons before taking on a young bunch who had won the spoon but were always going to rise quickly.

I prefer to think when we smash the shit out them next year we will be rubbing it in their nose.

Ugh, I feel sick. This was the worst case scenario and it has come true.

He signed a contract in 2009. Do you understand what that means? He could have refused. If you are going to roll this stuff out in the event that the Blues beat us next year then things are going to get nasty on this board.

Whats a contract? A piece of paper that can be thrown out at will, just ask Brett Ratten.

Major difference here. Collingwood did not reneg on the contract, Mick did.

Malt house signed a very attractive contract at end of 2009.

Coach another two years despite no flags in 9 or 10 years, very generous and virtually unprecedented to keep a coach after such a record. Then stay on with the club in some ill defined but very well paid and cushy role helping his loyal deputy Nathan Buckley begin his coaching career.

Despite what you flippantly say, a contract is a contract.

Malthouse ended his days giving a good impersonation of a bitter, selfish and completely narcissistic individual who put himself above the club.

He significantly undermined the club's chances in 2011 and potentially cost us a precious flag.

Collingwood Footy club would have been a laughing stock had we reneged on Buckleys contract and Bucks would have been well within his legal rights to demand his three yrs salary.

What you suggest is both unconscionable and unthinkable, extremely naive and something Collingwood would never do.

Malthouse was done at the end of 2011 and needed a break.

love him for the fact he helped rebuild the club and coached us to a flag, but i seriously couldn't give two ****s what mick does from here on out.

obviously i hate to see him successful at carlton but that is because i hate carlton to be successful; mick has nothing to do with it.

If Mick is successful so is Carlton. There is no separating them now.

Regardless, Malthouse signed it of his own free will.
What he decided to do with it after that point is moot.

How's the current divorce rate going?
Same principal. It hard for a 67 year old to say they were forced into a contract, one his manager went over with a fine toothed comb, which was scrutinized into oblivion by supporter and media alike.

I don't think youd have been the laughing stock if you reneged on your Buckley deal. A lot of people would have said fair enough...premiership changes the playing field completely etc. The reason why every coach in the history of the game has been sacked was because they didn't win a premiership when they needed to.

We all understand the coach... Premiership thing.. We don't understand what Collingwood have been doing.

I honestly thought Bucks would fall on his sword on this one. He definately has some guts.

Malthouse was done in 2011 because of the weird arse looney stuff he was dealing with put upon him because the President didnt have the guts to tell his assistant to back off after 2010.
Give the coach the perfect environment to coach 2011.
Why why risk it. Why not say to Mick after 2010. Mick how can the club help you?
Get a couple more Premierships out of him and if he's such a dick piss him off later down the track.

Hows a man suppose to coach when he's on death row?

I am equally concerned about Richmond's handling of it's coaches.o_O
It also amazes me how much better a coach Malthouse has become in the eyes of opposition supporters now that he is gone from Collingwood.
The concern amongst our foe is much appreciated and heartwarming to say the least.
