Sweet Mick, put your personal interests and money hunger ahead of the team....

I can't believe he has been allowed to do this, what a waste of time when he should be devising our next moves...He knows enough about these clubs anyway, and commentating on them won't see him learn anything he doesn't already know.

So he should be devising stratergies but he shouldn't need to or even want to watch them

that logic makes my head hurt

HMMMMMMM the games he has choose to commentate on:

Geelong
Footscray
Hawthorn
St Kilda

Gee isn't it just a co-incidence that these are the only games he choose?

Prettty smart logic from this man. he has picked all the teams he needs to know about:

The funny part of that article:
Malthouse will be joined in special comments by Dermott Brereton and Matthew Lloyd.

Anthony Hudson and Matt Granland will call the matches.

"Our Friday night line-up is arguably the best on offer," Quick said.

If that really is the best commentary team on offer then footy commentary is in worse shape than i realised.

This really doesn't concern me at all.

And for one reason,

I ask the question, what is Mick Malthouses' strength as a senior coach, and the obvious answer is "gameday decision making and coaching", and in no way or form will this hinder his strength.

Add to that that MM has "chosen" to commentate on mainly sides that are our genuine premiership contenders, and I think this is more then a "looking towards the future" move.

If you asked MM today what his biggest regret in football is, he would start by saying "I don't really believe in regrets", and then would answer "Not coaching Collingwood to a Premiership".

MM wants a flag at Collingwood as much, and maybe more then anyone, because like any man he has an "ego", and is worried about his "legacy".

Basically what I am getting at here is that this is all part of MM's last great shots (2 to be exact) at coaching the impossible team (Collingwood) to an AFL flag.

I still back MM 100%, right up until our final game of 2011, then I'll back Nathan Buckley with the same fervour and drive.:thumbsu:

Mick's not dumb and he'll have a reason for getting involved in this.

Can someone please explain to me what exactly will he be doing in his new job after being coach "coaching of directors" or something.. what exactly is that?
cheers,

No one knows, not even Eddie or MM, it was basically just a bullshit "title" made up to appease the press and the naysayers at the time.

I think MM will have a choice in 2012 and beyond whether he wants to stay on as a type of "coaching mentor" or if he wants to leave and either coach elsewhere or go into the media.

Brilliant ploy by Malty. How else could he possibly find out about these teams otherwise?

hmm atleast hes still at the club :p be interesting, maybe hes just looking over buckley for experience and give him some tips, and with malthouse there, buckleys coaching will grow more and be a future malthouse himself. this will be a beginning of a new era. and its gonna look good ;)

Yep brilliant ploy it is, however generally speaking coaches go to the games anyway and watch opposition teams to see what is going on. So in fact it is not something new by any stretch of the imagination. The added bonus will be the few extra stats and replays etc available from the media that Mick can get his hands on.

I am extra happy about it because now Mick gets a few extra dollars back from those scurrilous televison networks that rip us .....THE PUBLIC....off!

Thanks Mick

:eek:Wow i hope you weren't being serious?

His best strengths are pre match planning and connecting with his playing list imo.

His game day tactics and decisions are crud, even the club thinks as much hence why they wanted rocket Eade for that specific role.
MM has made some horrendous selections and makes little to no moves in an actual game, he sticks to his structures and deviates very rarely from them.

Do you watch our games? Most interchanges out of any club? There are a few players that play one position only but same at other clubs to. One of Collingwoods biggest strengths is how much the side moves around during the game which is why our players rarely get tagged.

I was pretty sure Terry Wallace did some commentating whilst coaching but I could be wrong

Most of our interchanges are a pre planned thing and not even controlled by MM half the time, a player said in an recent interview when questioned on the excessive amount of the rotations and coincidence of coming off after a goal is kicked.

I am referring to making changes when you are getting a pantsing by the opposition or a tactic that isn't working v certain teams he doesn't try to mix things up during the game.
He has been known to hang players out to dry against the likes of J.Brown and Franklin as recent examples.

As i said his pre match plans are great but during the game he is very rigid.

couldn't give a shit if MM commentates while coaching, just found that comment amusing about his supposed strengths.

By watching games like everyone else or do you have to be in a commentary box to get great insights.

At the end off the day at least the opposition coaches will get some insight in how he sees their teams and what he sees as their weaknessess. Id be very interested if I was an opposition coach.

Maybe, but this is nothing new.

In the finals coaches from teams not participating do it every year
