And personally, I think Walker offers us most in the forwardline, working up the ground, and Gibbs offers us most around the ball but forward of centre, kicking it inside 50.

There are two motivations for a player requesting a certain position.
One is selfish (think Marty Clark wanting to kick goals). Mick hates this.
The other, which I think applies to Walker and Gibbs, is they want to get the best out of themselves, and therefore the team.
Absolutely, both served their time in the back half, just as Ratten did when he first started. They were top 2 draft picks who were recruited as midfielders. When you spend half of your career plugging holes and sacrificing your game because you are not recruiting genuine back pockets, then you would be excused for thinking you will never make the mark you think you are capable of. Walker got an opportunity, grabbed it with both hands, I'd hate to punish him by sending him back again. Get a genuine small/medium defender with pace, guts and mongrel. Duigan is close but needs more pace. Where is our version of Richmond's Morris?

If Walker as hopefully the 3rd or 4th tall forward next year he should be tough to match up on.
Can go into the midfield if someone needs to shake a tag.
Tuohy's fine as the small defender, I don't think his back was 100% when he was struggling. Otherwise Army might have to go back there

Herein lies the problem, there aren't many of them. Dozens of small crumbing forwards but stuff all Malthouse/Sheedy/Parkin/Wheeler types. 1AW looked the part on Milne and I loved it. He seemed to enjoy the challenge as well, but as you point out he was not happy in the past. Hopefully, when he knows he is an important part of the team structure he will take on the job

Walker is a gun HFF. Rotate him through the pockets, the goal square and on the wings and he'll put some serious hurt on the opposition.

His first game back against Freo shows just how deadly he can be. If he can stay uninjured and get some continuity in his position he'll be great. 2011 wasn't just a one off.

Sometimes when an itch feels this good, you scratch it regardless of where it is ;)
Wherever you scratch yourself in the privacy of your own home is your business, of course.:p

Nevertheless, I'm feeling a little compromised reading that post and it's the same revulsion in sacking club great Brett Ratten to appoint a former Collingwood doyen.

Just starting scratching already ;) you know it will feel good.

My hope is that every player understand their role for the team. That we do the team things naturally (block, give off, lock down ur man) even if it means less stats for themselves. I want the players to know what to do with the ball every time they get it. I think I want predictability in the way we are going to play. Then if you stuff up it's easy to move you out and find the role player the team needs.

More emphasis on whole team success as opposed to individual success.

I also hope MM sprays journos all the time because I do love a good journo spray.

Dare I say it, and I don't like him much, but I believe he'd be a good fit - Brent Maloney. Even though he is more of a fwd/mid, he is very much the morris type.

This guy on the coaching panel...

Not sure we need defenders that can't kick. I think Davies could develop into that role if need be.

Are you talking about the Nick Maxwell role (which comes with captaincy)?

Yeah, it was him I believe that kicked that out of bounds on the full which gave the ball to Brock.

NEK MINNIT, Tiggers are sunk.
