I remember hearing about this at the time of Dutroux's arrest. Made me feel sick, in particular the young girls who starved to death while Dutroux was in jail.

http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/serial_killers/predators/dutroux/evil_1.html

At least the Belgian people took it upon themselves to show their anger and push for change within their country, that appeared to be protecting paedophiles in high places.

In recent years we've also heard about Josef Fritzl in Austria, and what he did to his daughter.

There was also the Elizabeth Smart case in America http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Smart_kidnapping where the offender was a religious nutter. "Fortunately" Elizabeth was only held for about 9 months. By "fortunate' I mean, that she wasn't held for years on end, which is so often the case in these types of crimes - eg Jaycee Lee Dugard http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kidnapping_of_Jaycee_Lee_Dugard

The thing that freaks me out a little about these types of crimes, is that these are the ones that have "come to light". Just makes me wonder at any given time, how many kidnap victims out there who are held in captivity for years on end, until found, or until they died.

Another one:

Ah yeah, I remember that one too. I thought there was another European one. Amazing how a few of these came to light around the same time.

A few more Fritzl-type cases have been uncovered, but didn't seem to get the same amount of international publicity.

Kidnapping / human trafficking happens all the time, but only a few cases seem to become well-known.

Thousands of kids are kidnapped in China every year. A link to a documentary on the situation (and to a success story in which a family found their missing child via microblogging).
http://stopthemyths.prophpbb.com/post118354.html?hilit=china#p118354

Some of these kids are only found when there is a fresh investigation into newly missing kids or when one manages to escape.

- Shawn Hornbeck: In October 2002, Hornbeck - then 11 - was kidnapped while riding his bike to a friend's house in Washington County, Mo. In January 2007, authorities found Hornbeck and another kidnapped boy, Ben Ownby, in the suburban St. Louis apartment of Michael Devlin. Ownby, 13, had been abducted four days earlier. Devlin was sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping and abusing the boys.

- Steven Stayner: Stayner was kidnapped in 1972 while walking home from school at age 7 in the Central Valley town of Merced. After Stayner escaped captivity in 1980, Kenneth Eugene Parnell was convicted of kidnapping Stayner and a second boy, 5-year-old Timmy White. Stayner died in a motorcycle accident in 1989 at age 24.

- In a German case, similar to that of Natascha, her captor eventually eventually took her out on walks. She managed to scribble where she was being held on a scrap of paper which she managed to drop by a paper recycling container. Luckily, someone came across it and called the police and she was found alive.

That is just horrible re those abductions in China.

And Dutroux' wife being released already is shameful

Kidnapping for ransom (or revenge) also happens in many parts of the world. We don't often hear about those either. Perhaps because they are so common that there is nothing that would make international headlines unless there's something particularly internationally "newsworthy" or if there's an international appeal for information.

People disappear all the time. Some voluntarily. Some aren't found due to suspicious circumstances, suicides or accidents.

Some kids (even adults) have been found by vigilant members of the public. However, some "vigilant" members of the public maliciously denounce anyone against whom they have a squabble, which wastes police time.

There are now Internet sites for missing people, even if they are not easy to navigate.

If you have a genuine doubt, do check. You never know, you could help find someone who is still alive, or perhaps help a family to find closure if their loved one is no longer.

Is there any information on speculation her mother was involved in the kidnapping?

There's bound to have been speculation. I haven't followed the case closely, but I'd be interested in reading her book. It seems that she didn't get on very well with her mother.

There seems to be some controversy as to whether there was an accomplice (Natascha denies that). There is also speculation as to some kind of cover-up (by authorities). Hard to know at the moment whether there is any truth in that or whether it's speculation fuelled by political feuds with the inevitable flames fanned by tabloids.

A few links (the Indie isn't a tabloid):

The Dutroux case unveiled the paedo rings of elites: Judges, EU commisioner, senior politicians, top businessnessmen, Police officers etc.

The original Judge, Judge Connorotte was a vehement advocate for Justice in this case, but suddenly he withdrew, very upset IIRC. Was he/his family threatened?

According to reports, 30 witnesses died mysterious deaths in the period coming up to the trial. Seems it is a dangerous business knowing too much about such peeps as these elite Peados.

Six girls abducted, raped repeatedly and videod. Kept in a cleverly hidden cellar. Four died, two of them by starvation ...NO FOOD for up to 4 months! ... Water? No one fed them.

So much appears to have been hidden. Only part Justice was done. The people of Belgium marched the streets in mass protest

I went out with a girl from northern France (right up near the Belgian border) for ages and she was 14/15 at the time of the whole Dutruox thing and she said there was verging on mass hysteria - parents not letting girls walk to school or even go outside. I also recall Melbourne during the Mr Cruel stuff and similar things occured.

I've subsequently gone out with a Belgian girl and some of the stories she has told me about sex crime and attempts etc are truly horrifying, but she tells them breezily as if it is just part of parcel of normal life: having to fight off two dudes who tried to drag her into a car off the street in broad daylight, being surrounded by a group of Moroccans and quite severely groped and touched up on the Metro as other passengers looked on until by pure luck, cops got on the cariage at the next stop. She says this kind of stuff is routine.

Same happened to me, DOP. Was about 21 at the time and lived in a nice neighbouhood with my family in England. It felt the safest place on earth. Was walking along the road and a car pulled up. Two guys got out and trried to pull me in. They pulled hard, but I think it was just young people gaming tbh. There were three or four young men and two women in the car..

I was pretty fit in those days and no way was I being dragged into a car full of strangers! They gave up and drove off.

Dutroux was truly evil and his wife not much better. Can you imagine the horror that she must have experienced tho at her partner/hubby being jailed and she was faced with going into the "cell" the girls were in to carry their food? Surely she could have squeezed some food of some sort and water around the door though. Fancy starving kids to death in a cell.

So, once again, the Catholic church rescues its own.

http://churchandstate.org.uk/what-we-do/expose-abuse-church/
The paedophile priest scandal first erupted in Boston in 2002 when many leaders of the Catholic archdiocese were found to have moved priests who abused minors to new parishes instead of defrocking them or reporting them to authorities. The scandal then spread to almost every US Catholic diocese involving 4,400 priests and 11,000 children, abused between 1950 and 2002. It led to dozens of lawsuits, $2 billion in settlements and the defrocking, resignation and jailing of priests.

"the Catholic archdiocese were found to have moved priests who abused minors to new parishes instead of defrocking them or reporting them to authorities." And it was not uncommon to promote the offender at the same time!

* BUMP *

Amazingly I only recently came across this case.
The most chilling thing about this case imo is the judge's sudden withdrawal. Eerie, dark, evil stuff.
