Both young guns, who will give years of enjoyment to their respective supporters.
I chose Murphy simply because he has that elusive footy instinct, something that can't be taught.
Love both of them in my team though ;)

I'm suprised it is even that close. Some people really seem to have very little football knowledge......

I think there's a bit of hurt and talent envy going on, espcially among the supporters of the minor Vic teams. With Murph and Gibbs we have the 2 most talented young midfielders in the AFL by an absolute mile. Nice isn't it. :)

I think you may be on to something. Do you think the second tier Victorian Club supporters seem particuly affected/bothered by this only because of Murph and Gibbs? Or is it a combination of this, and 40+ year premiership droughts and 25+ year unrewarded rebuilds? Are yearly draft blunders also a factor?

Good question. I really want these minor Vic Clubs to do well. With the temporary demise of the Blues, and the massive amount of draft picks and AFL handouts they got, I was disappointed to see how they blew their opportunity. It was interesting to see how each of the minor Vic Clubs mucked up their chance. Some made terrible drafting/trade choices, some employed terrible coaches (GT, Danny Frawley), some adopted bizarre game plans, some just felt content with making the 8, or having improved membership numbers. I think the key point, is that the minor Vic clubs just lack the essential success culture i.e. they don't know how to go about winning flags and lose focus. At Carlton, winning flags is absoltely everything - nothing else matters. Every decision is made with flags 17 and 18 in mind. We view everything other than a flag as failure - 2nd, 6th, 9th, 16th - all the same i.e. failure. I'm hoping some of the minor Vic Clubs will learn as this talented young Blues line up progressed toward inevitable success. :)

Murphy by a bloody country mile.

Sherman's a selfish hogg who hasnt got have the ability and natural skill that Murphy does.

That's crap.

I would take Sherman over Murphy at this stage.

But I would take Michael Rischitelli over both of them!

Now Galah we know that you have a ridiculously skewed view of life, but this one is a cracker. Even you can't believe that the blues have been directing their attention to the next flags. Your boys were too busy directing their attention to who gets to play in the sandpit and who doesn't.

But the funniest is for you to deride other clubs for their poor coaches and bizarre game plans. Dennis Pagan anyone????

And draft choices. Let's look at the blues. They've got two superstars in the making - Murphy and Gibbs. They were taken at pick 1 in their respective drafts. They were touted as the clear number one picks months prior to the draft. They were no brainers.

So what happens when the brain needs to come in? Josh Kennedy at number 4, Paul Bower at 20, Jordan Russell at 9, Adam Hartlett at 25. And of course the grandaddy of all draft disasters Andrew "Lightning (ie kicks never strike twice in the same spot)" Walker at 2.

... Josh Kennedy at number 4, Paul Bower at 20, Jordan Russell at 9, Adam Hartlett at 25. A..

All high quality, and all excellent draft picks. Hughes really has done some excellent recruitment and list management. Walker looks like delivering on his super-star potential over the next few years. Our recruiting was ordinary about 7 years ago, but Hughes has really turned things around - how's this for a list of talent Murph, Gibbs, Kennedy, Walker, Russell, Setanta, Waite, Fisher, Carazzo, Simpson, Bentick, Bower, Grigg, Hampson, Betts, Thornton, Hartlett, Benjamin, Anderson, Aisake, Jacobs, Jackson etc. Unbelievable quality. There is real competition for spots nowdays, as these young players fight for a spot in the talented side destined for multiflag success. By contrast, the Pies list management has been a complete disaster. :)

Murphy, Gibbs - Very, very good
Waite, Simpson and to a lesser extent Thornton - Good
Kennedy, Russell, Walker, Betts - Just average
The rest have shown little or nothing.

Destined for multiflag success? I think you might need more than a couple of gun midfielders and a super full forward. Do you really believe that Waite and Thornton can be the cornerstone of a premiership winning backline????

We have about 8-9 quality midfielders now, including 4 elites, the best KP forwards in the comp, including the best FF. Our defence is taking shape nicely -lots of pace, height and talent - with Setanta, Waite, Thornton, Walker, Russell, and Bower. He also have some exciting ruck prospects in Hampson, Aisake and Jacobs. Even Cam Cloke's doing OK, after he got away from the toxic, de-skilling Collingwood environment. So basically we have a bucketload of talent on every line. We also have an excellent coaching team i.e. Pagan, Ratten and Bradley, guiding this briliant young list. Having Billionaire backing is nice also. The Blues are about to embark on a prolonged success era, and will take the game to a new level over the next few years. Hughes should be congradulated for some recent brilliant list management. Sit back and enjoy. :)

8 or 9 quality midfielders - name them
4 elite - name them
Best kp forwards - I'll grant you the best full forward but ffs who else is there
Might be some pace and height down back but talent??????
Exciting ruck prospects - even though there is some competition this is clearly the most misguided optimistic statement of all

But we all love your enthusiasm and blind loyalty.

Odds on for Carlton to make the 8 with all this talent.

I wouldn't say odds on, but certainly a chance. What we lack, badly is experience - that's why the pre-season games are so important for us. I really can't see us having a serious impact on the top-8 until 2008. But you never know - I mean if a list as bad as Collingwoods can make the 8, anything is possible. :)

I'll have a crack.
Quality mids: Walker, Gibbs, Murph, Stevo, Simpson, Kouta, Bentick, Carruzo, Scotland.
Elite: Stevo, Simpson, Kouta, Murph and soon to be Gibbs.
KPP Forwards: Fev, Kennedy, Lance, Fisher
Back Talent: T-Bird, Waite, Setanta
Ruck Prospects: Aisake, Hampson and Jacobs. Of course they are exciting prospects.

well Carlton should give it a crack.

As for Collingwood, I must be the only one tipping them to retain their spot in the 8.

I'd be sacking that Hughes bloke already. Granted Murphy and Gibbs are good, but hello with the no 1 picks, anyone could have read out those two names. The rest, considering the number of high draft picks you guys have had are pretty dissapointing. It was also hilarious how Essendon tricked Hughes into taking Hampson at 17 and missing out on Jetta. Ha. You could have selected better talent blindly pulling kids names out of a hat.

You're judging players before they've even played a game:confused: .

Suggest you get down to training and watch Hampson before you throw these adjectives around ;)

LMFAO, this is being filed for a few years down the track.....seen the kids play at all??

Wayne Hughes would be amongst the best recruiters in the AFL in my book.

The jokes on you after the undersized Cloke and Ackland accounted for Hille and Laycock in the Wizard cup. The taller Hampson will outreach Hille and run away from Laycock (Is he an ironing board or a ruckman?) after seeing their substandard displays in that game.

Hampson is a gun. :thumbsu:
