Mark Blake or Troy Simmonds

Troy Simmonds is an ageing hack who used to be half decent.

Mark Blake is not and has never been anywhere near an AFL footballer.

How a player who doesn't actually know how to kick (and is afraid to do so) is on an AFL list is an absolute joke.

So, Simmonds for me.

I agree. The OP should have included atleast one superstar ruckman such as Will Minson.

Lol, touchy about Blake eh? That's rare, Geelong supporters are usually aware of how shit he is. Minson's bad but Blake's one of the worst players in the competition.

you'd prefer renouf even though blake smashed him in round 2?

ok
Yes, because Blake getting 19 hit outs, many, many breaks, no marks, 1 tackle and 8 handballs is much better than Renouf... 16 hit outs, no rest whatsoever, 2 kicks, 4 marks, 5 tackles and 12 handballs.
I think I'd prefer 2 kicks, 4 marks, 4 tackles and 4 handballs to 3 hit outs against Hodge and Ellis... most of blakes hit outs came in the last quarter when Ottens was at full forward and Renouf was to, Hodge and Ellis were going up against him, gun player mate. ;)

So Blake beat him in the hitouts despite having less gametime? Isn't Renouf's strength his hitouts work? Renouf is probably marginally better than Blake around the ground but Blake is better in the air. As a number 2 ruckman, Blake does his job fine, and even as a number 1 ruckman, we've still managed to win plenty of games over the last few years.

Blake everyday of the week, and twice on Sundays.

As has been said before, his impact on our clearances cannot be understated. He does usually get his hands on the ball first, as evidenced by the fact he's regularly in the top 15 ruckmen in the league in terms of hitouts, despite playing as a backup to Ottens most of the time.

Yes, we know Blake doesn't kick it often, but he's not the only ruckman to do that. Looking at the stats of other ruckmen around the league on the weekend, Kruezer had 3 kicks and 12 handballs, Jacobs 1 and 6, Ottens 2 and 7, Simmonds 3 and 11, Vickery 2 and 8, Mumford 2 and 11, White 2 and 6 and Renouf 3 and 8, amongst others.

When he's surrounded by the likes of Ablett, Selwood, Bartel, Chapman, Ling and co, I think the majority of Geelong supporters would prefer him to handball it to an onballer who is a better kick than him to kick it himself. Quite simply, the bloke knows his limitations, and does what is best for the team, namely winning hitouts and feeding his midfielders as often as possible.

Ottens beat Renouf on the day.
As i said, Blake got most of his hit outs against Hodge and Ellis in the last quarter when Renouf had ran himself into the ground, it would be like Renouf having the first half on the bench then coming out against Selwood and Chapman... He'd dominate.

People need to remember for the last 3 years, (other than the last half of 08 where he overtook an injured Taylor) Renouf was our third ruckman, probably fourth if Bailey was fit and injury free. Now he is a lone ruckman in our side who has done magnificently in the absence of ruckmen to share the load, he only has lilse to train against too, other than that Buddy and Rough go against him at training. I personally idmire what his doing. IMO. :thumbsu:

Blakes taps are alright, but imagine if he played for Richmond....

Hammer, Nail, Head.

Simmonds at least has some modicum of football ability other than height, if you were to put Simmonds into the Geelong midfield and vice versa....
Blake is very poor made to look passable by his midfield, Simmonds is average made to to look poor by his midfield.

IMO Richmond should play Vickery in the ruck for the rest of the year and plonk Simmonds in the forward line.
