Odd that the two guys who have carried the entirety of the ruckwork throughout the first 10 rounds, in which we've gone 9-1, could be the ones to miss.

Very true, but McIntosh and Vardy are both very good players.

Vardy is not only competing with (McIntosh, Blicavs and West) for one of the two ruck positions, but possibly also competing with Pods for the role of second key forward.

Blicavs is so versatile and mobile that playing him as a fifth tall wouldn't hurt us at all as he could easily hold a place on the wing.

That is also an option that could be considered.

It would be interesting to see Blicavs being selected as a midfielder, ahead of a player like Smedts or Corey.

Improvement is unreal!

Only given away 3 free kicks all year, for a bloke his size who likes to mix it up once the ball is on the deck like our midfielders do, that's an incredible stat.

To think this guy has played what 15 games of footy in 10 years watch out afl when he learns how to play.

Thanks , have been saying that for weeks.

LOL. Not meaning to trump you, but based on my knowing both of his parents (quite separately) through basketball back in the early 80s, I predicted that he'd be great as soon as we announced his signing last year.

But I never thought that he'd be this good this early, after basically being thrown in the deep end.

Have loved his progress so far but tonight was the first game I thought he truly belonged. All the other games he seemed a bit awkward but tonight he just killed it. Good tap work, good contested positions and good skills. Loving his work.

Can anyone confirm how much time he spent on the wing last night? Because he definitely started there at one stage.

Don't know, but he spent virtually the whole 2nd half in the ruck on his own, with West mainly in thr back line (though he, HT and Lonergan each drifted forward at times).
Blicavs held his own in the ruck til 3/4 time, but he tired and Nicholls got on top of him in the last 1/4 in hitouts; partly because of Blicavs' revolutionary new tactic of not contesting the hitout, rather roving to the hitout by the other bloke.

surely the debate about whether the club promotes him or keeps him on the rookie list at seasons end is now over - at his rate of improvement each week the club will have no option but to promote him if they want him in the blue & white hoops next year.

See that is the funny thing. As a rookie list he can be signed to another clubs senior list. Things is, if the club offers him rookie again at max rookie deal, can he refuse other senior list offers or does he have to accept them.
Point I'm getting at is that he and club seem to get along and the club might have some mileage in that they signed him to play and paid him to run for the Olympics. Now the club needs the list space so re rookie him, give him more $$ and promise if senior promotion and we get to keep another senior list spot open which we are clearly gonna need

Go catters

No doubt Blicvas is just killing it.

I'm confused on the matter. He just gets better every week and my previous comments on him are redundant given that each week he becomes more and more influential.

As a ruck he is tapping well, and is a good second option. His contested work on the ground was phenomenal last night and he now has the composure in the contest to not panic and select the right option.

I just don't know.....can we play him on the wing in our best 22. I think we probably can at the moment. Boy its going to be complex with Hmac coming into frame.

Who was the nuffy from Bay Fm or K-Rock that read out the players names pre-game [rather pointless excerise] ?

"Number 46"

Yes...and his name is ?

You've had 10 weeks to find out how to pronounce his name.If your going to read out everyone elses, including emergencies that weren't even playing, then say them all.

/end rant :D

played extremely well, is like another midfielder running around after the ruckwork

20 disposals and a goal, just going to become a superstar after a couple of pre seasons

if this is what he is producing after less than 20 games of football overall in 7 years, imagine after 3-5 pre seasons and 50+ games

surely he has to be in the hot seat for the number 2 ruck spot behind mcintosh now, then let vardy and podsiadly fight for the second forward role

The wing is where he played the first half last night, notice he came out after half time with the shin guard on, had the socks down and was running up and down the wing in the first half

Its pretty much the way I see it Daz. No one wants him galloping off somewhere else. He looks very happy to be here.
But list structure is complex , and we should try to do our best to max it. Being a Rookie is not hindering his position and thats the one thing. We must be able to play him. If we can leave him as Rookie for another year , pay him what he is worth and that enable us to get another talented kid on our list..which helps us when one of the oldies retire in 12 , 24 , 36 months etc

But isn't the problem that leaving him as a rookie means you are banking on a LTI if you want to play him in the first half of the season?

do we really want to roll the dice on such a good young ruckman thought? im sure there will be plenty of other clubs lining up to give him a senior contract if geelong offers a rookie spot

Menzel will suffice

Agree, he will be a unique and key player on our list this year, already best 22; MC will do the right thing by him , no doubt. They must be watching his development like we are, stunned and chuffed all at once.

Forgot him. :D

Yes, that's the other issue, he would have to be happy with the deal and any unwritten promises.
If he continues to show his current improvement or anything like it, there will be plenty in his ear, though they almost certainly won't be looking at him as a ruckman.

i understand spots will be tight on our senior list, but for a guy this talented, we need to find a spot

also it is highly likely that we will have a retirement or two, josh hunt may go, joel corey will most likely retire, mitch brown will de delisted or traded for a low price, podsiadly may call it a day, sherringham will most likely be delisted, stringer possibly another one. we should be able to find the room for him to be on the senior list

Hooley friggin dooley..............he looked awesome last night , 23 pressure acts from a 198cm guy who doubles as a virtual midfielder when the ball hits the deck.
Great hands and his skills have blossomed , very reliable by hand and is developing poise which allows him to make the right decisions and hit his targets.
An absolute must keep :D

Looked phenomenal on the ground and developed a bit of composure which he has lacked in earlier games.

He is going to dominate with the rule change next year.

still at a loss as to where we play him this year and what that. means for our other key positions. Would love us to have three ruck options with Blitz, Vardy and one of West, Hmac or even Simpson.
