Just thought I'd create this topic so we could follow Mark Johnson this year.

Just kicked a great goal despite having a relatively quiet start to the match.

You guys won't miss Johnson too much, I don't think he suits the Bombers play anymore, I expect you guys to be trying to be a Geelong type running machine off half back in the years to come so he wouldn't be ideal unless he was playing as a permanent forward..

I was at the game he was actually very good today did alot of hard work off the ball that wouldn't have made it on the tv. Showed class when he goaled up forward and set up another, personally I think he has been pigeon holed as a backman but doesn't have the run in his legs anymore. Should just play up forward.

Agreed Jonsey.......I have no idea what these other posters are on:p

Five clangers (most number in the side) and his opponent continually outpaced him when he was thrown in the middle. Worked hard but we already had a lot of old guys that work hard for little result.

This thread isn't about slandering the guy....

He played well in patches but he did make a few errors. Will be better for the run.

Still hasn't got rid of that habit of giving away stupid free kicks and he still argues every one he gives away with the umpire.

If I was a Freo supporter I would have expected a more disciplined game from Johnno.

So what...because he's won a B&F and a Premiership at Essendon people can't comment on his game?

From most accounts he did a few good things, but also made a number of mistakes and was average at best.

That pretty much been a summary of this thread, really haven't seen anything being all that disrespectful to MJ, it just that most people are happy he is no longer at the club, because he no longer has anything to offer our team.

Fair enough I guess he is coping alot though cause he is an ex-essendon player but on the day he was far from Fremantles worst and should definately get a game next week

IMO MJ was a wonderful servant to Essendon and we should never have gotten rid of him. With all the youth injected into the side by Knights, we'll need experience through in and under players who can show the youngsters how to play and really leave an impression on them. Guys like Mark Johnson, who was irrefutably tenacious, are perfect for this role, and, as reflected by his B&F, was a great player for the bombers and will be sorely missed. This will become more evident with the approaching retirement of Jason Johnson and the delisting of Peverill (hopefully), who are also great, hard at it players, although Peverill lacks basic skill and makes stupid errors.

It will be interesting to see if the likes of Slattery, Monfires, Houli etc. can stand up and fill the shoes of these hard at it players, it's obviously something Houli has the size to do and really needs to work on moreso than the others, who have already reflected an "in and under" style. A player to fill the shoes of MJ is now very important for the future success of Essendon, as we clearly have a lot of talent coming through the ranks.
