Is that your contribution?

Go back to school buddy.

(Google) Naive: marked by or showing unaffected simplicity and lack of guile or worldly experience; "a teenager's naive ignorance of life"; "the naive assumption that things can only get better"; "this naive simple creature with wide friendly eyes so eager to believe appearances"

Do you know the meaning of the word because it applies to you.

To suggest a lack of guile and experience is absolutely wrong. You are 16, living in Queensland do you watch in the the dockers on foxtel? On a small box with moving pictures? I am a member of both AFL teams and went to every game at Subiaco in 2006. Played 150+ games and also have umpired 250 + games.

The spirit of the laws allows the player playing the football (in front) every opportunity to get the footy. Do you want the donkey playing behind to dominate contests?

Darren Glass is a woeful footballer, he has poor skills. He can run and is strong yet he can dominate a skillful player in pavlich by playing behind and using dogy tricks to stop him. You support that crap?

Such a bite. Wow. You've truly shown me the meaning of naieve but simply replying the way you did ;)

But hey, I'll respond to you. You are correct about Glass (and Chick for that matter) are dominant with the subtle hand in the back. However McPharlin too is highly dubvious and has given away numerous free kicks to it. I'm definately not doubting class of McPharlin, he can be a gun without it but it's the adjustment phase and that emergency 'hand of god' McPharlin uses mostly out of instinct that I doubt, thus I used the word naieve as I perceived you hadn't taken that into account due to the nature of the post I quoted.

A little about myself: I've umpired the game for two years, staked out said foxtel T.V. and have studied both Eagles and Freo game styles. Whist I'll admit I'm not the most proficient in the tactical workings of most players I pick up on what I see and with McPharlin it's an instinctive hand in the back that gets him the best tactical advantage. It's going to take some match practice to get out of him and is not an easily coached out.

Chick is more of an offender of the hand in the back than any player I've seen in the league, closely rivaled by Glass but I rate Chick as a far worse offender as it seems to be nearly the only way he can get a mark unless he's on a lead 5-10 metres away from the nearest opponent.

P.S. if you go back through the archives of this forum you'll find a very special Freo speech that won me a 'Junior Citizen of the year' award. Just showing how long I've been a passionate follower of Freo and how long I've been watching each player and how they play.

But does the rule change improve the game of Australian rules footy as a spectacle?

This is not actually a rule change. Just reverting to the way it used to be interpreted i.e. no hands in the back. You can still use your body to hold your ground. The skill of using your body and not your hands has all but disappeared from the game.

I think it will improve the game
