Always had great hope someone like Cox or Jason Holmes at St Kilda would do well and open the floodgates to usa athletes. A full forward built like Dwight Howard taking the game by storm like Paul Salmon in the 80s would be awesome. Reality is it ain't gonna happen.

In a perfect world you'd be getting these guys to make the move as 18 year olds but it's generally post college that they decide to make the move meaning they start learning the game at 23-24. Given the time it takes for AFL big's to develop they're always going to have limited careers. Greatest hope for a US player to have a longer career is for the US AFL leagues to continue developing, attract some talented teens who could be enticed here to do their tertiary studies.

No he hasn't and Schache could be a 15 year player for us if we landed him

Schache has managed a bag of 6 in the NEAFL? 3 or more goals at senior level?

You've just advanced a strong argument for playing Cox in the senior team. What is Cox going to learn playing VFL football? Melbourne saw something in Jimmy Stynes to promote him from VFL to AFL because he didn't show anything at VFL level and didn't play inspiring football in the AFL for his first couple of years. If we wait too long before Cox gets a regular game in the senior team he'll be 28 yo and past it in terms of age.

I'd be happy for Cox to get the remainder of the season at senior level but I don't understand why people are so convinced that he (and other players for that matter) can't continue to learn at VFL level. It's a tough competition, we essentially implement a similar game plan, the ground is essentially the same size, he needs to do the same things.

Wrong in no way will increasing his muscular power in his legs lead to a reduced vertical leap

He tested elite in vertical leap if i recall correctly, 2nd highest off left foot or something?

The concern would be increased rate of injuries, can't jump off broken feet

I think you're confusing muscular power (mass) to sprinters and perhaps long and triple jumpers whereas most elite high jumpers (vertical leap) look like

Remind you of Cox at all?

Despite my criticism in this thread, I would definitely have played Cox this week. Firstly because Grundy may need the hitout assistance against Witts, and secondly because it must be extremely tough to prove yourself if you only get a week or two at a time before getting dropped. He should just be given the last 7 rounds to establish himself.

I agree that Reid + Moore is a more desirable combination....but we could have swung Reid down back, dropped Dunn and let Cox + Moore play forward.

We've picked a team this week that has a 1 week focus. It's win at all costs type selection. Doesn't show a lot of foresight.

Yeah right what ever you say. How does being strong lead to injury? It doesn't. He needs to build strength though his legs so he can hold his ground, 110kg for someone of his height really isn't heavy. He would want to weigh in at 115-120kg
There was once a brownlow medalist called Kelvin Templeton
Have a talk to him about stacking on bulk , helped him heaps
Quite sad your constant diatribe on this bloke by the way ,he certainly has something to offer.
Pity you amongst others cant see it , be nice if we kicked the ball to his advantage for once dont you think.

Yeah back in the old days when people focused on beach muscles over increasing functional strength. Building up a strong lower body would allow him to hold his ground better so he can win more contests

Being powerful will not reduce his leap, further more it will help him improve his acceleration and enable him to hold his position in one on one contests

You can look at stats or you could actually look at talent. Schache had to take the number defender all last year and did a good job for a first year player. Also if we were able to get Schache he would have been able to play 15 seasons with us Cox could give us 5-8

I think Seedsfan is a relatively young guy who is all into the current powerlifting/weightlifting functional science performance science scene.

Some guys can play and some guys can't.

PS 30 years ago the same kind of people would have been all over Reebok step aerobics

How long they'd play is a totally different discussion. You made the claim that Schache has shown more than Cox. Clearly he hasn't at any senior level to date.

yeah the old days
The days when we couldnt identify different body shapes, the days when we tried to stack weight mass on .
i have noticed a body shape change with him.
Its core strength.
Everyone who BAGS this bloke , seriously how many marks and goals a game would /will you be satisfied with, 2,3,4 or 5, would make him a All australian wouldnt it.
Notice that its pretty hard to mark the ball in any team (apart from intercept), Grundys stats perhaps

No I said Cox has not shown any more than Schache
Cox 1 brownlow vote already , youre not serious
Neafl well i do watch it , its very ordinary and hes doing Jack your boy in a stronger team than most.
gee even Paine looks good
Havent seem your boy like him take 15 marks.
Know its school holidays but common have a think ,take your blinkers off
silly statement

You are an absolute **** seriously. The have both kicked about 20 goals from the same amount of games. Schache had to do it last year as an 18 being the number one tall in a team that was percentage off the spoon. To say Cox is a better prospect or has shown more is laughable

2 goals a game would not make him all Australian and core strength that's just a cop out for people who know nothing. You want to know what helps build a strong core strong legs
