What ever the Crows are offering Redman we should match we have 3 million in cap space
I don't deny you have plenty of salary cap space, but I doubt you have $3M, given the difference between the cap & minimum floor is about $0.7M.

Where is the other $2.3M?

Cox is probably the one
Sans redman we could still run ridley - zerk - kelly - cox - chb - mcgrath.

None of them really push up the ground as a goal threat like redman though
We let you take Kelly as a FA, so only fair we take Redman... ;)

We are under the floor this year for starters.
But you can roll over up to 10% of excess cap room from one year to the next.

So we are essentially working with a 110% salary cap this offseason (14.7m + 10% equals 16.1m) and we were operating under the floor, which would put us at about 13m this year.

(Lore I think I have that right)

You can go under the cap, but not under the floor, unless they have changed things... which I doubt the AFLPA would allow... but yes, forgot you can bank it forward so that is $1.4M... $0.7M being a once off.

Any ways, not denying you have plenty of cap space.

I thought I read somewhere that if you are under the floor, then the remainder of the $$$ get distributed to the players on your list. (I.e if we are 500k under the floor that 500k gets split between the 40 players on your list).

So for that year you are technically paying the floor, but for the purposes of the next offseason then you have that room to work with.

Salary cap rules ^^

The over/under is 5%, 105% is a hard limit, 95% hard floor. Can’t bank more than 5% each year.

Rollover rule is 3 years.

So if you go 99% 99% 99% then the fourth year can be 103%.

But if you go 95-95-95 the fourth year is still only 105 (although the 6th and 7th years can also be 105).

The thing we have going for us at the moment is front ended contract extensions given to Ridley and Draper in the last couple of years just to make the floor.

Probably our 2024-2025 TPP forecast have more than 5% room at the moment, though by the time we get there we’ll need to be at 95%.

As a crows supporter, I'm not loving the 800k figure being reported although I admit to not watching Redman play often. What figure would be the maximum bombers fans would be content paying for Redman?

On the open market he is probably worth $650K but as a FA you need to offer $50-100K more to make use of the FA system as other clubs have done.

Because you’ll happily match it?
Oh we’re matching that haha.
You won’t outbid us money wise.

They only reason redman ends up at Adelaide is due to truly wanting to be there - it won’t be due to more money being offered than we will match/consider.

What's with the devil horns celebration after every goal? Even pulls it out when they're losing and the games toast I believe.. Easily one of the biggest tools in the AFL.. I'd just leave him at Essendon where he can remain irrelevant for the rest of his career.

Apparently GCS was too busy re-signing Lukosious and left Rankine last before he was even made an offer and this might have played a factor in him leaving, if the same is happening with Redman as reportedly Essendon hasn't even made him an offer as they are too busy with re-signing Parish then this could also be a factor.

Because it's his celebration? And how many goals do you think he's kicked at that point?

That’s just not what’s happening at all haha.
I’d quit the living and dying off believing every piece of media.

Good for Gold Coast if that’s what they did screwing it up.

Essendon aren't sitting here halfway through the year going “Oh shit, we forgot about Redman”

Should he go, and we end up at a similar comparative ladder position at the end of the year, it would be worth triggering a trade. Leaves us more flexible with free agency options, and helps weaken a competitor.
That's also a great way to keep Redman.

A team like the Crows only overpay in salary in order to get him for free with picks.

Once the clubs have to start paying twice to get the player, it really changes things.

They’re bull horns. His mate back in the local league uses that celebration and told him if he ever kicks a goal he should use it.

He’s a defender so he isn’t supposed to kick goals, but he does anyway. Now it’s become his signature thing to kick a goal from outside 50 and do that celebration.

Some people think it has to do with his nickname “red dog” but it’s not. It’s also not devil horns…

yeah i think so, it depends on how intent he becomes if at all.

Most would like Redman signed up before Parish to be honest
