I didn't think he could win today in the CC believing he would be unsuited simpily spotting the leaders to much start. Masterful ride Vlad Duric to prove me wrong.

This horse at Flemington over an extra 800m will be only better. No doubt about it, if he wins today then theres no way he won't win the Melbourne Cup.

* Better the longer they go
*Adaptable proving in the Autumn and this spring he can sit forward or back
*Always seems to keep coming, never ever seems to die on his run
*Can run just as well in the wet as a dry surface
*Field will be inferior in the Melbourne Cup
*Most of the Melbourne Cup runners won't stay 3200 which means he'll be in the first 8 around the corner as most are dropping out.
*Flemington suits much better then any other track

I think he's an even bigger moral in the big one then when he won the Winning Edge. Absolutely unbeatable.

I will never post again in the punting forum if he loses.

Current price $6.00 on betfair

I'm selling all my possesions now.... unbeatable!!!

Had him today and was kind of dissapointed that maldivian was out as the price plummeted and with that speed over the last 400m probably would have beaten maldivian. Will be on it for the cup for sure.

#1 rule for me in the Melbourne Cup - experienced, tough horse. I've ruled my line through him already. He'll put up a good effort like Maybe Better did last year. 2008 could be his.

Purple Moon on the other hand, just get on.

Purple Moon, Maybe Better ran well today, both very good chances imo.

Theres 6 horses who can win it this year...hope Efficient gets good run.

Opposition

Maybe Better - Overated. Better last year. Didn't run on well in yalumba and to anyone who says he did, come on, open your eyes!!

Efficient - Hasn't run a place since Vic Derby win. I will be laying it the place.

Miss Finland - Dour as they come. Flemington will suit, really suit, biggest danger clearly. I respect her 100%.

Purple Moon - Where was it today when Master O flew past DV?? yawn

Maldivian - Spelled or Cox Plate then spelled

Zipping - On a Jeune type (when he was decent) who could run third

Mahler - ????

Scorpian - ????

Eskimo Queen - Prolly spelled now

Scenic Shot - After todays effort, shoot it

Tungsten Strike - ????

Douro Valley - Had his chance today and couldn't do it, so no.

Princess Coup - Refer Purple Moon

Bluetigeroo - Lost the plot this spring

On a Jeune - Why do they still race this horse?

Tawqeet - Would anyone even take him for free?

Dolphin Joe - Horsham Cup maybe, Melbourne Cup, no.

Rest - Retire

Miss Finland and the overseas horses excluding Purple Moon will fight out second. :)

He is going to start very short in the Melb Cup. Nothing that went round today has a hope of beating him at Flemington. Princess Coup was level with him on the turn and it was as good a run as anything behind him.

Don't care what weight penalty he cops and pretty much agree with you Ron that there are only a couple of possible dangers

I have 5 horses going in the Cups double and doubt that 2 will start now so I'm left with MO, Scorpion and Zipping.

Don't anybody try to tell me that he would have beaten Maldivian today either. Would have been a space job Maldi looking at the sectionals - I got a good collect off MO today but not looking through rose coloured glasses.

Purple moon finished fairly decent didn't it at around 5th? the 3200 will suit it as well so for me the top 4 will be Master, Purple, Finland and maybe better with Master winning by a length to Purple moon.

Of the rest, need to see it again but there was a big space 3rd to 4th.
Blue Monday 4th & Tawqeet 5th is a worry.

Purple Moon basically ran how I expected MOR to run.
Made fantastic ground with a flashing light on it & held up in the last 150m.

Maybe Better,Corey Brown was dumbfounded.Reminded me of Boss after he got off Zipping last yr after it won at MV.
Flat as a tack, they just dont win M Cups off performances like that.
BMS is a gun but he'll need to be.

I wont be writing off EQ as long as she's ok.

Go you good thing! It was a brilliant winner today and have backed the double into the Melbourne Cup, so I'm laughing!:thumbsu:

I'm not surprised the Hayes horses ran 4th and 5th. He said they had been training well despite the race form. Tawqeet ran on the bad part of the track last time around.

Master O'Reilly will be a short priced favourite for the Melbourne Cup and I'm fairly confident it can do it. Perhaps the worry is the rise in weights. It was penalised for the MC after last week's win and the handicapper couldn't touch him for today. After today's win, the horse is sure to be penalised again.

I hope you are right Ron. While not wanting to go the early crow, I took Master O'R. to win both cups @ $20,000/$50. I also a couple of savers with Master O'R-Efficient-$11,000/$20, Sirmone-$2,100/$5, Tacit Agreement-$4,000/$5.

Today was a great Melb. Cup trial for Master O'Reilly, but I have been a punter too long to be counting my chickens!!! Just hope he gets a trouble free run in the Cup and should be able to outstay the rest as loves Flemington and really looks like he will get the trip.

How much do you want for your TV?

Miss Finland - Dour as they come. Flemington will suit, really suit, biggest danger clearly. I respect her 100%.

That's the first time I've ever heard Miss Finland called dour. Cox Plate favourites aren't typically dour horses

Purple Moon - Where was it today when Master O flew past DV?? yawn

Princess Coup - Refer Purple Moon

Think you might need to watch the race again- both gave excellent M Cup trials. PM copped a reasonable check as it got going as well.

To be fair, I'm not sure about PC over 2 miles- certainly not bred for it.

Still a long way to go til the first tues in November...

It's the Melbourne cup! Anything can win...

Doesn't say much for the Cox Plate field does it if Miss Finland is clear favourite!! What else do you call a horse who can't accelerate fast enough but always keeps coming no matter the distance? Dour by any chance?

Yeah i saw it, was it that thing hacking away into 6th while MO scooted away with the cup in second gear? Every year the mug punters line up to back an import and generally back the wrong one.... This isn't the UK, our horses run hard, fast and tight the whole way.... :thumbsd:

To be fair, I'm not sure about PC over 2 miles- certainly not bred for it.

Even this horse was flat in third, was no match for DV, woulden't you want a MC horse to be finishing hard to be a serious chance? ...

Yep 2 weeks till i'm filthy rich!!

... :)

based on the caufield cup run, maldivian would have won by about 3 or 4 lengths. that was a rubbish caufield cup field.

always thought master o'reilly would be a much better chance in the melbourne cup. the only real danger i can see are purple moon and maybe better.

if maybe better can somehow produce a similar run to last year he will bolt it in. i was a bit surprised yesterday he was ridden a bit closer?

Still reckon that MO will win the Melbourne Cup after watching the replay.

After watching the replay though it just makes me even more confident that Maldivian would have brained them. After seeing Annenkov of all things skip 3 lengths clear turning one can only imagine how easy big Maldi would have been travelling sitting outside him waiting to ping.

The other thing with the 2 scratchings is that with both of them in the field then MO would have settled down another 2 horses back along the fence as they both would have raced in the first 5 and been on the fence. That is the most important factor from the race, instead of settling midfield he would have been near last. He got his birthday yesterday but was good enough to take advantage of it so good luck to him. Melb Cup was always his race but price is going to be severely deflated due to the 2 best horses in the race being scratched yesterday.

If he ran home into 3rd which he probably should have yesterday he would be double figures for the Cup instead of about half that quote

so you got odds of 800/1?????? like to know when....? if so thats a good bet....

I'm a little a bit worried about the form that will come out of this race. With the scratchings of the 2 favs, it wasn't a vintage field and that was before the 2 L/S. Lacked depth of prfevious years cause of the EI.

Even though MO sectional times were good, I will be laying him in the Melb Cup with plenty of confidence. Maldivian would've won that race by 5 lengths. In terms of class and depth it was the worst Caulfield Cup field assembled.

With the lack of depth in this years cup, I will be seriously looking at one of the internationals.

Actually I got 400/1 and I put it on the 7th of September with Double Bet but as I was opening an account, it went on officially on the 9th of Sept.

The day I put the bet on, (I think it was the Friday before he won at the last race at Flemington beating Red Lord), I spoke to Brian Taylor and he told me that the horse had been confidentially supported the week before and some punters got set at 1200/1 for Master O'Rielly/Master O'Rielly cups double.

Good win to Master O'Reilly. I certainly appreciated my internet account allowing me to plunge him once the first two favs were scratched :D. Despite it being the Caulfield Cup it is hard to get too excited about the win though as the opposition were terrible.
