No point rushing our future best 22 talent when we have list cloggers on the payroll that need to be replaced at seasons end, the lower we finish the better our position in the draft.

Those hoping for a Geelong/Scott style scenario are dreamers. Yes it's open this year but not to us.

We are recovering from last year and (yawn) still developing. It may be hard to see but a powerful Fremantle team is in it's infancy, a helpless whelp now, but we need patience and no knee jerk reactions (we don't want a flash in the pan Macaulay Culkin list, we want the Clint Eastwood of football teams).

What we are seeing, if I may presume, is a sound model. Get your head around the fact that Fyfe, Hill, Mora, Neale, Sheridan, will be mid 20's and in their prime before we have a real go.

Lyon talks like we need to win now and are in a rush, rightly so, the only excuse we have for losing games is natural talent differential, he understands that, he is instilling a work ethic which, unlike its expectation, doesn't come over night.

We have a smart man at the helm, expect his needs to be respected come draft time. Coaches, all of them, still learning the list and each other.

We've waited eighteen years, we've had excuses for eighteen years and guess what? We've still got them.
Please continue to melt down after every game, it's fun for me to watch.

P.S. Threaded as per request.

Cue discussion...

You thought this was such genius that it couldn't receive its due credit without a thread being dedicated to it?

My deepest sympathies, Freo. I hope you beat this cancer that is currently growing within your club. There's a lot of potential there, but Ross Lyon will never inspire anyone to anything, especially a previously free flowing team who plays on a big ground.

WTF, stage 2 of the rebuild?!?! Get a grip, we've been rebuilding since 2007 and it's a big failure. 5 years into a rebuild and we are no better than in 2008.

Lyon had me convinced in the offseason, im slowly losing trust. The team sits 5-4 despite the gameplan, not due to it.

There has to be a balance between long and short term goals. Long term yes we have the Hills, Fyfes, Neales and Clarkes devleoping and getting towards the level that they should be. Long term McPharlin, Sani and Pav only got a few years at most left than once they retire, we better have replacements or back up ready. We rebuilt in 07/08 got to the 2010 finals and should have culminated in a majorly successful year in 2011. But thanks to Sports Science department in the pre season it wasnt to be and still suffering the consequences to this day.

Assuming true, conclusions so far:

JA - delist/trade.

Crichton - has 1 more game...maybe.

Van Berlo - GONE GONE GONE GONE GONE, don't care how, GONE.

Suban - In danger due to dropping.

Walters - Needs his 'turn'

Lower - Needs his 'turn' too.

Neale - future captain:cool:

*cough* Vossy *cough*

Anyway, Harves couldn't take us anywhere as a free flowing, attacking side, why would anyone else be able to?

I was the one that asked him to make a thread of this because it deserves respect. There is a lot of truth in it. Not sure why we have so many trolls being tolerated, wouldn't mind seeing the mods do a bit of carding.
The thing is our list IS ordinary. It's been patched up since 2008 but it's still full of holes.
No team that goes out with as many battlers as we did today can expect to compete against the best.
Of the players we have taken since 2008, that we might expect to have some effect we were missing due to various factors Fyfe, Morabito, Mellington, Michie, Pitt, Sheridan, Crozier, Walters, Forster, I may have missed some.
The players we had out there just aren't good enough.
A bit more pain to go yet folks.

Agree with OP. It can take years to successfully implement a gameplan, not 9 games.

The only time we have been playing at our best have been when we have attacked.

When we are defensive we have sucked. The game plan isn't working and we don't have the players to deliver what Ross wants.

Why don't Freo play one game of attacking football. Just to see how it pans out. Couldn't be any worse.

I now have my doubts about Ross Lyon.

Ross is a good coach, and yes it will take time to develop a good knowledge of the nuances of our list/the best game plan to suit us, but that doesn't excuse the insipid effort that has been on show in the past 2 weeks, nor the questionable style in which we are playing.

Sanderson looks to be going ok.

I just think there's a lot of misplaced optimism in Lyon. And you're dealing with a different set of circumstances to when he went to St.Kilda, now everyone knows who he is and what he does. The players would know what it takes to implement the game plan and what its limitations are from watching St.Kilda.

Do you really think many Freo players would have been excited by the arrival of Lyon and his game plan?

I doubt it.

Lyon loves mature bodied players. Look for him to pick up delisted mature aged players like he did at St Kilda (Polo, Pattison, J Smith, Dawson, Ray etc).

Baseless statements with no evidence are obviously a staple of bigfooty.

You aren't privy to any inside info, so don't speculate.

Master plan?
That was insipid.
Our last five games have been insipid.
We've jagged wins against port and fell over the line against the suns who've been woeful.
This club is going nowhere fast.

Lyon is the only tried coach we've had.
He will do what has to be done.
The problem at Freo always has been that once the player's get on the main list and get games they think they've made it.
Wrong.
Ibottson Duffield De Boer even Stephen Hill aren't superstars.

A coach who has a plan, any plan, compared to dumbass Harvey?

They would have loved it.

He doesn't control list management here though...so far.

Bondy apparently has a plan, dunno if it will pan out or if Lyon will wrest any control. Interesting to see what happens in trade/draft period this year.

Plan or no plan if the players out there are not not trying then no matter what plan you have it won't work.
Intensity and lack of of effort is the problem.

No the players wernt i remember seeing a few freo boys at the saint (a pub) 2 days after lyon got appointed they didnt seem to impressed.

Freo have some suffering to go yet its depressing

Apparently quite a few of us reading yet misunderstanding the points made in the opening post. Happy for this to be deleted if the one dimensional minds criticizing our one dimensional game plan continue to dominate.
