The preseason confirmed the best 22 for round 1. After that you need to back it. That's about all you can read into it.

I think about 2016 when Papley had a brilliant preseason which carried him into the squad. Much easier to break in during the preseason than it is the actual season
I don't know that the best 22 is confirmed based on today.

Mills, Papley, Lloyd & Cunningham did not play.

The fringe players led by Warner Jr. were good but I don't know any demanded selection with their games today.

And that's all before you get to guys like McLean who may or may not be in Cox's preferred line-up.

I suppose as much as I feel like just a match sim, nothing to take out of it, I felt like Heeney, Blakey, Rowbottom, Warner, Grundy were all just in second gear really, and Mills, Papley & Lloyd weren't even playing. Helluva lot of improvement still to come just out of that lot alone.

Gulden looked to be giving his all, but he had stats to pad and he was very damaging whilst doing so, so I'll allow it :p

I was on a plane for this so can only go on reports. Sounds like:
1) our midfield still leaks when we aren't focused enough.
2) when we are we're still very dynamic with the same core.
3) Amartey may have come on some but McCartin may not be the answer to improvement in our tall forwards.
4) Campbell most likely played himself into HF Rd0. Paton also replacing Harry. Sheldrick way out pointed Adams in the race for a spot.
5) Ladhams looks in good nick.
6) Playing only Melican as a KPD loses us Blakey as an attacking weapon.
7) no-one noticed Jordon 🤔.
8) while things were pretty scrappy no-one disgraced themselves and effort levels were very good.

I'm cautious of the fact that Amartey kicked 6 of them, and he averaged not even 2 a game last year, but I take your point. It was as impressive as you could hope for given pre-season rust and not wanting players to go silly and injure themselves.

Amartey probably will kick 6 over the next 5 games now

Mills might replace Jordan.
Jordon was one of our better players today. Certainly one of our most prolific. Dean Cox also lauded him on the True Bloods podcast.

I think Mills probably takes Sheldrick's place.

Though Cox did also note they won't rush Mills back, so maybe Mills doesn't even play the first game.

The next game will tell the tale. It will be much more physical. The VFL game is being played early. My guess is that Mills is out again and Sheldrick plays seniors.

Not a chance IMO.

Round 0 from today's match 3 need to go straight away. (I say this if the vets play limited minutes vs GCS next week.
The 3 to go are: Ladhams - Adams - Francis

Then to make the 22.
In: Mills, Papley, Lloyd
Out: Mitchell, Paton, Hanily

I say this while also thinking it will be interesting to see what happens with the talls. Just don't think Cox will be rushing McCartin back to D50 unless McLean is right to play.

"Logan has recommenced team skills training and will continue to build towards match play over the next month."

That was on the Swans site as injury update for the game. Doesn't sound like he will be back any time soon.

Sorry I could have just looked 😂

Sounds like 4-6 then, bye Logan

Well it was good timing TBH, I was trying to get a timeline on Paps etc.
Yep. Sounds like, to me anyway, 6 weeks minimum. Which probably needs some questions as to why he isn't further along in recovery from an injury that should have been taken care of the week after the GF.
