What a massive game its going to be this week!

But the defensive matchups are going to be a killer

Scarlo -> Rocca
Harley -> Rusling
Milburn -> Cloke

Think we will really miss ego for this match. Would have been a good matchup for Cloke.

Will hunt get the job on a tall again?

I'd swap Harley and Milburn. Or put one of our faster players on Rusling and make him accountable.

I think our matchups last time were pretty good. The interesting one for me will be Ling.

I reckon I would have:
Hunt -> Rusling
Harley-> Cloke
Scarlett -> Rocca

Milburn will have to help out Hunt a lot.

Who does Ling go to? Maybe Pendlebury
Who gets Didak? Maybe Enright

Possible for ling to tag shaw on a HBF? ling kicks goals and will make him accountable.

Mackie also another possibilty for Rusling. He did the job on buddy early in the year.

Dash will have to be smart and play off his man (who id assume will be bucks when he moves forward).

Wouldn't bother with Pendlebury, he gets it a lot but even under slight pressure he doesn't use it well. Thomas is more dangerous. Again, I'd look to make him accountable.

Would it be beneficial if we tried to isolate Clement in our forward line like we did with Archer last week? IMO he plays a similar way, in that he either tries to be the third man up in marking contests, or zones off in order to be an option on the rebound. Make him accountable, and see how he goes then. :thumbsu:

ling to thomas, hopefully thomas will be struck down with orangeitis by the end of it

stokes on heath shaw, need super pressure to stop them running it off the half back line - im not sure if people would agree with this one

someone quick to match it with rusling maybe mackie? and harley to drop into the space their leading to

corey on swan

wodji on didak

I think Mackie would do a good job on Rusling. Maybe have Ling on Thomas or Didak? Not really sure on what the most damaging player for the magpies are; don't watch enough of their games.

I'd like to see Rooke get Thomas. Lets see Thomas get cleaned up every time he tries to baulk Max.

On reflection Ling killed Swan last game.

deny buckley's influence and we shall win comfortably. it would have been much closer last time if buckley played

Like that match up. Like Mackie on Rusling too - I rarely see Rusling outside 50, I reckon he'd struggle to stay with Mackie all game.

I might think about Josh on Leon - put physical pressure on Leon and he goes to water.

Buckley is an interesting one - he had a fair bit of it tonight but turned it over. Maybe Maxie on him and put some real physical pressure on as well as pushing forward and hurting him the other way. Crunch him whenever he gets near the ball, unsettle the team, and collect all the frees/50s that come as a result. Selwood on Buckley would be an interesting matchup too: first rising star against the most recent one.

Interesting. Very interesting.

Would rather have Harley on Cloke, Milburn to fully exploit the lack of talent of Rusling. He is good, but not as good as Milburn.

Josh on Leon has worked in the previous game, but not so in other games. Josh was slammed by Leon a couple of games back, but I think the whole team is different, therefore it should work.

Why waste Selwood on Buckley ?? One of our hard ball getters on an ageing player. Would rather Mackie or on him for sure. Like that suggestion.

We should match up quite well.

Hate the Didak v Wojak option. Would rather Wojak on someone where he isn't always on the defensive. With Didak you would have to play that way, he is an extremely vital cog in the Pies offensive.

Rusling - Milburn

Going on tonight's match up I have no doubt that the man Ling should have in his sights in Alan Didak. He is their most damaging player when in the midfield I believe.

Down back I am hoping for:

Scarlett on Rocca
Harley on Cloke (this would have been Eagan's job but Harley is a big man and can step up)
Mackie or Milburn on Rusling

The last one is the key I think. Rooke could also be a chance. When Rusling has been good the other two have looked a lot better and have had more space and freedom.

The question is, who are they going to tag? Junior? Jimmy? Selwood? Corey? They have to get it in their backline first, then we'll start worrying about the match ups down back :D

I reckon Milburn or Hunt could go on Rusling for you guys. He is a very good one trick pony, but his quick lead is he only move, not that spectacular a player but he is good at what he does.

Put one of your accountable midfielders on Dane Swan.

I think the most important part of this game will be the style of play and gameplan. if you guys do what you do all year and run super hard. Collingwood after last night simply wont have the legs at all.

Midfield

IMO there's at best two, but probably only one, really defensive moves we need to make - Ling v Swan. Swan had 36 touches and was, particularly in the last, clearly their key element in the middle. The other question is what to do with Rooke - could potentially run with Didak or Pendlebury (depending on where Mackie goes), but might also be used to try and shut down Lockyer or Shaw.

All the other midfield match-ups, be aggressive. Last time around Corey racked up 34 and Junior 32 - Collingwood simply can't afford to let those two players roam free. Then you look at last week, where Bartel was superb and the second tier midfielders (Kelly and Selwood) stamped themselves on the game. Back the ruckmen to win the ball and then play the tsunami.

Defence

Scarlett onto Rocca, Harley onto Rusling, Milburn onto Cloke. Put Enright on Buckley and really hurt them on the rebound; Hunt onto Medhurst; Mackie onto Didak. Thomas is an interesting one...possibly Woja? Force him to be accountable, at least.

Forwards

Harry O'Brien should be this weeks Glenn Archer. Put Steve Johnson onto him and really exploit it. The other key match up could well be Chapman onto Goldsack. Goldsack is averaging 13.6 disposals a game - Chappy has the ability to run with him and pressure him into mistakes. Having said that he's 191cm, so he may well try and take Nath with an aim to running off him. Their two other talls are Clement and Wakelin - Wakelin might push up onto Mooney and Clement will play sweeper.

My take on Geelong's defensive moves

Mackie == Rusling. Will take Rusling out of the backline when rebounding where he is pretty ineffective. Although Mackie could probably do a number on Thomas, I reckon this match-up has the potential to exploit a very one dimensional player.

Scarlett == Rocca. Saw last night how Rocca performs on a quality backman. Scarlett will have him chasing so much that Rocca wont be able to leave the goal square.

Harley == Cloke. Normally wouldn't be too happy with this, but Cloke would have covered a lot of turf last night and will be sore. Harely can take him I think.

Hunt == Medhurst: Can beat him in the air and match him at ground level.

Enright/ Milburn == Thomas/ Didak: I reckon either could take either. Both decent in the air and at ground level.

Wojac == Davis: He can play tight, and lets face it Davis isn't the most defensive player known to man so Wojac should be rebounding to the max.

Rooke == Buckley. They with the dicey hamstrings go head to head. If Bucks thought Copeland was bad in 2002-2003, Rooke will be the first thing he sees when he closes his eyes to go to sleep at night. For the next 20 years. Nightmare material.

Ling == Swan/ Burns: Swan is their Bartel. Just not as good. Burns is also a driving force for them, and I reckon it would be a big blow to the moral of he got molested by the orange haired monster. I'd also be inclined to put him on Pendlebury, but he is more of a receiving type and if Selwood, Ablett, Kelly and Bartel do their job at the clearences, he wont have too much influence.

Geelong will be ready to let the others go head to head with whatever Collingwood tries. Would be interested to see what they will do about Ablett, Bartel, Selwood, Corey and Kelly.

Look pretty good to me. The only possible change would be to put Milburn on to their most damaging forward and completely shut him down.

Brad Ottens this week.

Should be BOG, and absolutely monster the 2 blokes Collingwood have.

I want to see him do something similar to what Cox did last night, and I believe he will. He'll be the main reason we win.

Re: Brad Ottens this week.

If Fraser plays and hes 100% fit then it'll be a good battle. But when hes off the ground Otto/Blake will slaughter Richards or Bryan.

Upon Further reflection and reading what smelly cat wrote.

Backline:
Mackie -> Rusling (exploit him going the other way)
Harley-> Cloke (Don't think Milburn is big enough)
Scarlett- > Rocca (Always gives him a bath)
Hunt -> Medhurst/Buckley/Thomas seems a logical matchup.
Milburn (loose) He can release Mackie and help out Harley and Hunt
Enright -> Buckley/Didak/Thomas one of these guys will be in the middle
Wojak -> Davis/Didak
Don't like Mackie on Thomas, Thomas is very good defensively and Mackie is needed for run & carry out of the backline.

Just depends on who they have on the bench and in the midfeild.

Midfeild:
Ling -> Swan (needs to be stopped)
Bartel/Corey/Selwood go head to head with opponent
Assume Ablett will be tagged
Like the idea of Kelly/Selwood on Buckley. If on the wing.

Forward:
Rooke -> Shaw (Rooke can kick goals and will cut off his drive)
