It’s time. Elevate the gun now. I rate him above any of our rookies (yes, Hendo included).

We saw today that rookies can play, staggering! Schmidt comes in and is one of our best, it can happen. Here's Jaensch's stats so far this year:

Round 1: 28 possessions (18K, 10H), 6 marks, 3 tackles. 3rd best.
Round 2: 18 possessions (13K, 5H), 5 marks, 4 tackles, 3rd best.
Round 3: 25 possessions (13K, 12H), 2 marks, 5 tackles, 3rd best.

Quick recap on him as a player if you’ve never seen him (posted this on his game yesterday):

He’s got one of the most effortless kicks I’ve seen; he can kick it 60 metres no worries and it looks like he’s doing it without putting much into it. He’d have one of, if not the most penetrating kicks on our list. He can stab it over 50 metres and it’ll barely get off the ground. Very slick by hand, he had a great 25 metre handball today and he’s become a real link-man and someone teammates are always looking to give off the hands to. Tackling was impressive, wrapped up Bode HTB with a strong tackle and had a few others. As for his pace, he’s simply a powerful athlete, he moves exceptionally well and has a huge burst of pace.

He’s always been a skilful player but not one that would rack up the touches, now he’s racking them up every week. He’s playing with such confidence; you can tell that he’s taken his game to another level. I just hope he gets his chance, I honestly can’t see why the AFC wouldn’t be very pleased with his form so far this season. Great player and for a 'mature aged' recruit, he's only 20 and is only going to improve. He's got the pace, skills and ball winning ability to succeed in the AFL.

he has the form, and after todays events, ill be VERY annoyed if we dont

I don't think we're going to have a choice!

You are correct Drummond. We need Breaking speed. Teams are closing us very easy and we cant get away from packs. Other teams are charging through the middle and splitting us as we lack speed.

Burton is loping and so is edwards(no longer can play mid in this comp). Burton and Edwards unfortunately will be gone at end of year. Goodwin looks up to it and McLeod has the speed however he always plays better in a winning team.

We may have to make a call and trade someone like Rutten to Gold Coast and get some more picks in draft to get some mids . Not something I want to do but I believe given all the Talls we have we have to train another full back and get some picks, bottom out and get some decent mids this year.

Give me a recruiting job and I will find them some great kids in SANFL under 18. What Schmidt and Trengrove show is that a good performer in SANFL can play AFL.

I like his aggression, arrogance (perceived or not, it's a quality) and toe in close.

May have to upgrade a few the way injuries are going.

Anything is better than Doughty and Edwards atm, so what the hell, actually make a hard call for once AFC.

Again, can anyone tell me how Matty Wright's going in the Sanfl? I haven't had a chance to watch North this season. I know he's coming back from a knee, but how has he been?

We were smashed in tackles and clearances by freaking MELBOURNE ffs. We're clearly the worst tackling side in the competition right now. It's disgusting. Wright wins clearances and his tackles stick. He's hard at the ball. As much as we need speed and skill right now, we need to ****ing win the ball more.

I like the look of this kid, he plays with passion, although Craigy and co. will knock that out of him quick smart.
Well said guys. He's really competitive, yesterday he was involved in a 1-on-1 contest in defence and he went diving after the ball but he couldn't gain possession and it resulted in a ball up. Jaensch was really angry with himself; he angrily clenched his fist and slammed his hands forcefully. I know it doesn't say much but it shows you that he hates losing any contest. There was also a bit of a push and shove and he was right there, as he always is when there’s a scuffle.

As for your second comment CD, I agree. Why was Maric the ONLY one who was remonstrating with Melbourne after what they did to Dangerfield? He’s always the lone player flying the flag, I asked why, my brother said because Craig probably doesn’t allow it. Probably true, so much lack of passion at our club.

Agree. Look at how Thompson's natural aggression has been curbed.

Because Ivan is a Croatian and they always stick up for their mates

Aggression makes up for so much as well.

I miss Symes. He would have got in on the push and shove too. **** I wanted to.

Spot on Drum:thumbsu:

Give the young fella a crack I say, it really can't hurt. I watched him yesterday versus Sturt and liked what I saw. He moves well in traffic, doesn't panic, is a smooth mover and has decent disposal. Someone here said the other day he isn't fast... well he certainly isn't slow from what I saw yesterday! I thought he had more than a bit of speed on him. I'm in no way saying he is anywhere near as good as Dangerfield but, especially if he does miss games through injury, we should give Jaensch a go as they both like to take the game on, are hard at it and have a bit of pace. I know Jaensch won't be able to make up for the HUGE the loss of Dangerfield but we need to replace him with someone who has pace and a willingness to take the game on and that is something which I feel Jaensch provides too.

Did I hear Jaensch as being upgraded from the rookie list on 5AA tonight. Rowe mentioned it around 6:40pm...

Be nice. To have a debut player who rips the comp apart. :thumbsu:

If only Rowe's "sources" turn out to be something other than this thread.

Only saw him in round 2, but it's fair to say he was still working his way back into it. Looked very rusty and a step off the pace, which is really unlike him at SANFL level. Nothing to be concerned about, just taking some time to get back into it. As such, would be well behind Jaensch and Hendo in the pecking order at this stage.

Apparently was a little better again last week, I expect in a few weeks that he will another one knocking on the door if our injury crisis stays the way it is.

They waited until Thursday to upgrade Schmidt last week...
Yes I have been saying last 2 weeks this guy is ready to play AFL especially with current problems.
I was also concerned that not upgraded yet meant he wasnt in this week .
I have seen on TV his game 1st week and last week and Drummond right he has always had poise and get free skills with great hands and excellent kick but now getting the ball a lot more.
Another positive was last week played in different position across half back .
He does not lack confidence and will not be overawed by occassion.
My only concern is with Stevens out might have to play McKernan and Davis and might Craigy too nervous to give Matty a go .
Sorry off topic whats with Stevens having 3- 5 weeks off with concussion like last year . I won a bet that he would not play this week .
