odds are he will play

I would guess that a high % of rookies that are ugraded during the season play the following week and I believe that we will see the same again this week

Logic understood...

This guy is A gun !!!! I have watched him at sturt closely since he was an U/17 and it is true about his skills and burst of speed - unbelievable. Once in U/17 he racked up 60 touches, so he is the definition of a ball magnet. You guys are lucky to have picked him up.

I got 60 possessions in a season once. Mostly junk time.

This news made my day. Seriously, a gun of the highest order.

And don't tell me that he couldn't be a gun at AFL level, look at Greg Broughton who was taken so late in the rookie draft and was 2 years older when he made his debut (yes I realise he's an EMG) and he is a GUN.

Go Jaenschy!!

There's plenty of RD success stories to make you case Drum.

I'm looking forward to seeing Jaensch in action, but also wondering....if not this week, it gets harder and harder as our injuries die down.

Regardless, the club has him above a few senior players and have shown good intentions.

You'd imagine Donnelly will be the only rookie gone at years end.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Jaensch, Schmidt and Hendo all upgrade permanantly.

That's just as well, given the number of players I can see departing the scene - Jacky, Hentschel, Griffin and who knows how many of our veterans.

The 2010 draft is supposed to be a strong group, but it's being decapitated by GC having 1/3 of the first round selections. It does run reasonably deep though. It will be interesting to see what list management decisions the club chooses to make at the end of the year. Far too far away to be worrying about this right now though.

It's hard to see us not going 100% midfielders this draft year. We'd be stupid not to considering how many of our veterans are midfielder/half-back flankers. We'll see anyway but you'd think that GC would pick up most of the KPP and leave a lot of the better mids unless they are really standout players.

You'd think we'd go all mids, and potentially trade a couple of talls; Griff, Sellar, Moran and even Hentschel (if he goes on) would be players worth at least discussing with the GC.

As for this Jensch guy, Drummond, you've got me very excited over him mate, better not be a let down!

;)
I know I spelt his name wrong

Well it looks like Hentschel will retire and Griff will be either moved on or delisted. I can't see them getting rid of Sellar or Moran any time soon. Although that depends on how Moran comes back from his current injury.

Anyway, JAENSCH!!!

The problem with that is that we wouldn't get anything back in return.

Griff has wanted out for the last 2 years, but nobody has been willing to give us anything more than an empty packet of chips for him. The club has opted not to do the trade, as we wouldn't be getting anything in return. They won't have any choice this year, as he's out of contract - but expectations of anything better than a 4th or 5th round selection would be met with laughter from the other side of the bargaining table.

Hentschel's career is almost certainly over if he does require surgery. If he can get away without the need for surgery then he may make it back. Either way, I don't think he really has any trade value either.

Moran doesn't have any real reason to leave, other than possibly homesickness. Unlike Griffin, he doesn't (or shouldn't) have any complaints about being held back or lacking opportunities. He was in the side and leading the ruck last time he played, it's only injuries which are currently keeping him out of the side. His trade value probably hasn't risen much since we got him (we gave North selection #37 in the 2007 draft, which we'd obtained from Melbourne via the Meesen trade). If anything, his continuing knee problems have probably reduced his trade value.

Sellar would definitely have trade value, though we would probably be better off holding onto him for one more year and trading him to GWS - not that I'm in favour of trading him at all. Jimmy's career started slowly and he was roundly criticised for spending large parts of his first two years in the magoos at Glenelg. Each year though he has shown steady improvement and he looked really good in the first quarter against Sydney (before blowing a hammie). This could well be his break-out year, if he can get fit and stay out on the paddock. If traded right now, we certainly wouldn't get fair value for him - give him another 18 months and he may well be worth far more on the trade market.

If we want to get anything worthwhile from GC we'd have to trade someone like Rutten or Bock. They're young enough (26/27) to still be attractive to them and they are proven high quality performers.

Most of the our younger talls on our list are just too young and inexperienced to attract anything worthwhile in a trade. Tippett has massive value, but we've already moved heaven and earth to keep him, so he's not on the table. That really just leaves Walker and Young as the only other viable alternatives. Make up your own mind over their futures.

Anyhoo... back to talking up Matt Jaensch.

Congratulations to the kid. It's been a hard road for him, after being overlooked in the draft for 2 years and finally getting an opportunity. I hope he grabs it with both hands. Looking forward to seeing him in Crows colours sooner rather than later.

In a GC compromised draft, there is a every chance all 3 could be upgraded. Apart from that, all have shown signs of making it at AFl level.

couldn't get it printed in time

i've now rectified this situation using sticky tape, a post it note, and my work shirt :thumbsu:

Re Sellar and trading after being a first round total dud he has since given us some hope but everytime gets injured and we sit and hope again and again. Looking fwd to seeing Davis play as havent seen a lot of and hope lives up to hype given him by Rendell and posters on this site in particular Faith.
Really hope after all work Drummond ,myself and others did to get Jaensch elevated he gets a game by replacing Danger or taking Petrenkos spot as think has a little more to offer as a fwd.
Dont forget Vader Jaensch only had himself to blame for not being drafted before due to his u-17s antics .
I know Fremantle were extremely keen at that stage.
Still a wonder Richmond didnt draft him as seem to like players that get themselves into trouble.
Anyway he has obviously worked hard on his game attitude etc and hope can do his stuff. He wont waste too many possesions .

As Vader said, Sellar started out on fire in the first quarter versus Sydney. 7 possessions, a few hitouts and a couple of dashing runs. He looked really good then got parked on the pine with a hammy. Hopefully he can get back into the side because he looked fantastic.

Anyway I hope Jaenschy gets a crack, looks a real likely type!

Was going to make a comment about that at the time, but I wasn't 100% sure whether it was him or Wright or both who got thrown off the SA U18 squad for misbehaving.

Ask KingsCrow for a long, whiny explanation about it!
