19 to go with 5 wickets in hand i wouldn't be looking at the heave over the top... admittedly huss tried the same an over or so later and it went for six so a lot of these things can come down to execution i guess....

With umpires looking at light meters, 19 to get and 5 wickets still in hand isn't a bad time to try to slap one.

re; good point about the light... i was packing to get moving to work so i wasn't aware of the light situation.

I reckon we got the runs with 1 over to go tops, so the urgency was most certainly warranted.

Think the West Indies is one of the hardest places to make your Test debut, if I remember rightly Haddin also struggled over there when he made his debut in the same group of countries.

I think now he is in there, you really have to give him 12 months to settle in (Like Haddin was given when he got into the side). As bad as the circumstances were for Haddin having to go home (And I think everyone's thought's are with the Haddin family, just once again proves there are a lot more important things in life then sport), I think the selectors will stick with Wade now.

When you consider all four innings he's come in under extreme pressure at 5 for not many, he's done okay. He's really fought it out and built partnerships to steady the innings (with Huss every time!), even if he personally hasn't gone on and got full reward for his effort.

I can only imagine what "I don't care the match situation I'll just slog it all the time" would do coming in at 5/90 or whatever.

Cricinfo commentary noted his stumping in the first innings was "great reward for Wade who's been jumping and diving all over the place for two days", so he seems to been keeping well to some inconsistent bowling and difficult pitch conditions.

As mentioned, apart from maybe an Indian dustbowl, this is probably the toughest initiation possible for him with bat and gloves. Doing okay so far.

I can only imagine how haddin would have struggled to keep on this pitch, he could barely glove the ball last summer on true bounce pitches.

wade kept a heck of a lot better in this series than i thought he would, from the initial reports from domestic cricket people seemed to be making out that his keeping was kamran akmal quality.

he would have to be pretty disappointed he hasnt done more with the bat. Has been given an armchair ride to take Haddin's spot with him pulling out before the series.

Admittedly no-one has scored runs and he has come in at 5 for not much. Hasnt 'failed' per say (single figure score, always been in an ok partnership) but hasnt stamped his mark on an innings either.

Going into the series i was more worried for his keeping but from what ive seen he has been very good behind the stumps (stats may show a few byes but been tough conditions to keep too). With a 6 months break till the next test Haddin will get his spot back.

He will still be the ODI and T20 keeper and this is where he needs to assert himself more.

Pretty dumb comment from Clarke tbh. Basically telling Wade that he won't have his captain's backing no matter what he does. He could have easily just made some diplomatic comment about "yeah it's great to have a number of options" rather than annointing Haddin.

You can say Wade's numbers don't guarantee he'll hold the spot....but then Haddin on recent numbers wouldn't deserve to slot straight back in either.

And all this just feeds into the thoughts of those who suspect Clarke plays favourites and are still down on him for "forcing out" Katich.

Plus the next Test isn't for six months. Anything could happen in that time. Haddin could get injured, or retire. Or Wade could get injured. Or Paine could come storming back. Or someone else ould have a flying start to next season. Why stir things up when nobody has any idea who'll be first in line?

Jesus, imagine the reaction if Haddin comes back!

Wade has done ok. Kept very well in the test matches, but the thing we all expected most from him, his batting hasn't really impressed without being a failure. One thing though that has been evident throughout the series is that it is bloody hard to make big scores on these pitches so I'm not concerned too much.

Disappointed in Clarke's comments, but I think they are typical of the nature of CA and it's employees at the moment. We all saw Clarke's reaction to Haddin's atrocious performances throughout the Indian series (facepalming every time he dropped a sitter and the furious declaration).

Clarke's been terrific but that was his first real dumb error. Feel sorry for
Haddin's personal predicament but his numbers, combined with his age, just don't warrant him returning. Wade's done well in the West Indies. Difficult pitches to both keep and bat on. Score 30 and you're doing ok. Wade's shown enough.

You would think clarke could at least wait until the end of the series before he throws wade under the bus.

Must be hard for wade to know that even if he goes out and plays a fighting innings tonight he will still be getting dumped for a hopelessly out of form bloke who will be 35 next time we play test cricket.

Great ton Wadey !!! :thumbsu:

Hopefully this will STF Clarke up about his NSW bum chum Haddin being the best man to handle the gloves for Australia.

Another very salient and pertinent reminder as to why the Australian capt. should NOT be a selector !!!

You can just imagine the press conference at the start of the home summer.

"no no we haven't dropped wade, he's just being rested......for the next 23 tests"

Wade could get a golden duck in the second innings after running out Clarke himself on 99 and it would still be a horrendous decision to drop him for Haddin.

It's a questionable decision in itself to publicly declare Haddin the number one keeper while Wade has kept soundly and batted adequately (superbly if you count today's innings).

How's this any different to Clarke saying that Ponting's is secure for the home summer? Ridiculous and completely strategic by Clarke to secure his own future when the bells toll for him.
