This weeks game against St Kilda will be Marty Mattners 200th game. He's been a polarazing figure on this board for one reason or another but one thing that cannot be denied since he arrived at Sydney is he's given it everything he has.

He's been an old school half back flanker who has been aggressive in his play, an awesome tackler and has loved to take the game on and at times he's been brilliant hitting targets off his left and hitting me 20 rows back with his right. in fact he did kicking drills with Alex Zanardi and Zanardi had the better right foot.....

However I've loved his passion, aggression work rate and competitiveness. and none of us will forget the awesome run a couple of years ago when Richmond made a massive come back at the SCG he made to pull their shot on goal to put them in front into a non score.

Will post a few Mattner memories during the week so people feel free to do so.

That goes for Crows supporters where he played 90 odd of these games of course, feel free to post some memories of his early years too.

Good heavens Cas, on reading the thread title, I thought to myself surely Marty doorMattner has had more than 200 turnovers this season. As a footballer he is a wonderful advert for a sensible smile and homely haircut.

Congratulations Captain Calamity Kick-in - on your 200! :footy:
Well, 110 of at least, for the most part.

Well done Marty. I used to criticise him a lot for turning the ball over but he's really improved over the past couple of seasons and I can't fault his game.

His first year was a very good season from him in terms of rebounding and setting up play from the backline in an average team. I think that's the way it goes with Marty...in a good team he won't be needed to rebound all that much and instead can focus on being a really, really good mid-sized defender, which is the path he has taken since 2011 (after not a great 2010). He and Shaw have tread similar paths after having breakout years as rebounders to become top notch defensive players for Sydney.

Has probably missed 2 or 3 games (due to the odd injury) since he arrived here which goes to show what the coaches think of him.

Doesn't get much attention from the media, Sydney fans or any fans for that matter, but he's become a quality player.

Full marks to Marty

1) Huge efforts
2) Knows when to peel off his man and help a team mate
3) Closing speed is phenomenal
4) Bloody hard to mark against his spoils
5) Dashing & daring. Adds real run from our backline
6) Love it when goes forward to boot a long goal

A quiet achiever and one of the heroes of our back six.

All the best

As far as i can tell since we traded for him Mattner has probably been in our first 10 picked. I don't think there has ever been a time that i have thought that he needs to be dropped as week in, week out he does his job and more often than not does it well.

This is what describes him best Bungee. I fully agree with this.

He is a terrific clubman that gives his all............EVERY minute of the EVERY game he has played.
He epitomises what Paul Roos then & Longmire now, asks of all his players.

It doesn't matter if the odd mistake is made, provided you are giving your all. This is Mattner through & through.

His good (match turning perfect tackles, attacking runs from defense, spoiling) far out weighs his bad.

He is a winner for our team!
Well done Marty. Ignore the critics!

Great observation, I've noticed that we don't rely on our defenders to provide run like we used to... since our midfield has stepped up to fill that role, as they should in a good team.*

*Notwithstanding the fact that we won a premiership in 2005 with 18 defend... er, 18 defensive midfielders ;)

but well played Marty on reaching 200 games!

Congrats on 200 games Marty Mattner, what a good and solid player you are, always giving over and above. As one of the posters mentioned before, you are often overlooked with the plaudits but you are probably one of the first picked being part of the spine of our great team. A true team man.

Marty always gives his all and has come leaps and bounds over his career. He makes up probably the most impressive part of our team in our back 6. Solid, aggressive and team focused. He has dedicated himself to the bloods culture and plays his guts out. Love the boy and hope he has a blinder this week. Congrats Marty!

An extremely versatile player, which is his greatest asset IMO. Can play on smalls, pinch hit on talls, play as third tall, as rebouding HBFer or even in a midfiield run-with role.

He's not brilliant at any of them, but is good enough at each of them. And is hard working, courageous and selfless to boot.

Well done Marty.

Well done Mattner.

And well done to Sydney for picking him up and getting the most out him week in week out. Great success!

I was a fan at Adelaide... Well done on your 200th.

Ki Ki's greatest ever import. When he left the town suffered a great loss*

*about 25-30% of its population. Is really a blink and you'll miss it town on the way back to Adelaide.
