THE AFL has opted against appealing the Tribunal's decision in the Brayden Maynard case, meaning the Collingwood defender is in the clear to play in the Magpies' preliminary final.

The AFL, having brought the charge against Maynard, said on Wednesday that it would not challenge the Tribunal's ruling, but would comment further later in the day.

"The AFL has confirmed that after careful consideration and review of the Tribunal's decision and reasons following last night's hearing into the incident involving Collingwood's Brayden Maynard and Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw, the AFL has decided not to appeal the Tribunal's decision," a statement read.

"Per the Tribunal Guidelines the AFL had to make this decision by 12:00pm AEST today.

"The AFL will release a further statement later today."
Finally some sanity 👍

Oh, you must be referring to this -
Cotchin possibly would've escaped a suspension for the collision with Dylan Shiel during the year. But he would've copped a fine for it.
And thats the problem, because Cotchin had already been fined twice for low impact hits during the year, so a third one would've seen him suspended.

And wasn't even the first time the AFL has bottled it with a big name player running into a suspension for multiple fines. Watching the way the MRP twisted and dodged in order to avoid fining Brownlow favourite Nat Fyfe for a third time in 2015 was hilarious.

And to nobody's shock the "3 fines is a ban" rule quietly went away one fine January day

Saw multiple running at the player and jumping to smother attempts last night that did not end up with a shoulder in somebody's head.

That one never got to the Tribunal as Steven Hocking, now Geelong CEO, waived it through in his position as final MRO decision maker.
