THE AFL has opted against appealing the Tribunal's decision in the Brayden Maynard case, meaning the Collingwood defender is in the clear to play in the Magpies' preliminary final.

The AFL, having brought the charge against Maynard, said on Wednesday that it would not challenge the Tribunal's ruling, but would comment further later in the day.

"The AFL has confirmed that after careful consideration and review of the Tribunal's decision and reasons following last night's hearing into the incident involving Collingwood's Brayden Maynard and Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw, the AFL has decided not to appeal the Tribunal's decision," a statement read.

"Per the Tribunal Guidelines the AFL had to make this decision by 12:00pm AEST today.

"The AFL will release a further statement later today."
Finally some sanity 👍

Congratulations Pies on your 2024 premiership. (Edit: and the 2023 premiership as well :))

Because the AFL clearly want you to win.:

I state again, the AFL competition has been good for AFL clubs, but has been an abject failure for the sport of Australian Rules Football across the country.

Brayshaw free to sue the AFL and Maynard if his career is prematurely as a result

I doubt it.
A half decent lawyer would point at his history of concussions as a predetermining factor in the result and it would be thrown out or settled cheaply.

But then again seeing how badly Wood argued the case tonight, the AFL might not have a half decent lawyer.

Beating Collingwood would be a good start rather than getting upset at the correct decision here by the Tribunal...

Absolutely no doubt in my mind that if either of the following factors were not present he'd be guilty:

  • It's finals
  • Plays for Collingwood

Never change VFL. This is more sports entertainment and more predetermined than WWE.

My favourite mouth breather... what was the conspiracy in the Sydney thing a few weeks ago? Lolnofinals

I would love to see if it was Steven May that did the same act to lets say Josh Daicos whether Collingwood supporters would still be saying that "the system works!" and "Common sense prevails!"
