Well spank my arse and call me Charlie.

I just watched "It's your call" on the AFL's website and guess what folks?

It was a goal after all.

Or is the Giesch using some strange new technology to prove his umpires right when they were wrong?

Having said that though Jeff admits that the umpire missed the free kick against Griffin for holding the ball when he took clean possession of the ball after a throw in.

So this is a show about making the right calls...

I forgot to bring this up earlier but there was a goal by the Suns that should have been called a point in the 3rd qtr.

Replay is here: http://www.smartreplay.afl.com.au/?round=1090&match=10340604&eventType=Goal&seek=4503&videoQuality=high

I was right behind the goals when this happened and i clearly saw the flight of the ball go past the goal post in the air. After watching the video replay its quite inconclusive to see from the vision but you can see how close he was to the boundry and the way he kicked the ball with an instep spin how it could not have been a goal.
If the goal post on the left of the goal umpire was 3m higher it would have hit the post.
Does the umpire give the kicker the 'benefit of doubt' when the flight of the ball goes over the goal post?

Am I the only one those smart replay links don't work for?

Every time someone posts one it just takes me to an empty AFL bigpond page except for a blue box full of bigpond links.

As for Mayne's goal, it looked pretty clearly a goal to me on the replay, don't know what the commentators were on about.

I remember as a 13 year old being a goal umpire for my younger brother's matches. I distinctly remember watching one set shot for goal travel directly above the goal post.

I wasn't sure what to call at the time, so I told the field umpire 'It sort of went straight over the post'

He told me to call a behind, which I did.

I remember this moment because all the kids in my brother's team seemed to think the way I said 'It sort of went straight over the post' was hilarious and from that point on for the rest of the season pretty much any point or goal I signalled one of them would mock me by yelling out and quoting my previous statement... little bastards..

anyway, I think my point is that it should be a behind if it travels directly above the goal post (from what I have been told, anyway!)

Yeah you're meant to assume the posts stretch all the way to the heavens, so it's (supposed to be) a point every time.

You probably need to use Internet Explorer.

I had no faith in the goal umpires early on when that numpty didn't see Mcphee touch the shot on goal in the first quarter. He was about to signal a goal when the field and then boundary umpire corrected him. How could he not see it!!!

Having only watched the 3rd quarter, when I saw him take that snap and the commentary reaction my eyebrows raised. I couldn't believe how convinced they were that it was a goal. How the crap would you know from that angle and the spin on the ball?

The commentary was idiotic. But what else do you expect from Lynch and Shaw?

I hate it when the morons in the box make the morons at home think a team was robbed. It was like that "80m" penalty against the Swans at the SCG last year. If you go through the frames, it was actually pretty close to 50m.

Mate i'm just glad we didn't have Hamish and Zempilas :thumbsd:
