MCC guest pass question for a first-timer

After being put on the waiting list in 1998 I finally received the new provisional membership. I've been in the MCC reserve a few times as a guest but on Sunday for Melbourne vs Carlton will be my first time as an actual member.

I see that it's a "category 3" game, which means that I can bring two guests. For that is it necessary to buy them online beforehand? When I go on ticketek I see only M49, Q47 and Q48 available, but I would be surprised if the whole MCC reserve sold out for a Melbourne vs Carlton Sunday afternoon match? And I'm curious as to why those bays in particular would still be available? Perhaps M49 is right behind the benches so it's obstructed.

Also they are 45 dollars each for the guests and 10 to get a reserved seat on my membership.

So yeah, just let me know if I really have to jump at this or we could just rock up on the day.

Yep. And in fact, there used to be just Full and Restricted and I'd still be waiting a few years for Restricted. They created Provisional last year and I was in the first batch. It gets you into all but 5 regular season AFL games and finals, and all cricket but days 1 and 2.

In the end I did just buy these tickets are they are nice on the wing and bottom tier. Normally a top tier guy but taking some older relatives.

But so yeah, as a general question, you can normally get a guest pass without having to reserve a seat?

It's not necessary to buy the guest tickets online beforehand unless you are getting a reserved seat as well. Last week vs Sydney I bought four guest tickets at the gate about five minutes before the bounce and I'd expect this game to be less full. The bays you are looking at are for reserved seats, I'd recommend saving the $10 and just rocking up a bit early -- the majority of the reserve is 'first in best dressed' (I think you will only be allowed on levels 1 and 4, but you might want to double check that). Bring a couple of scarves or something to save your seats so you can have a bit of a wander around the reserve before the game starts.

Those bays are reserved seats.
'GA' guest tickets will be $10 less. Can buy them at the ground, I suppose there is a small chance that they could sell out.

Thanks for the heads up :) Given there will be six of us (2 provisional, 4 guests) and that includes some elderly women I'm happy to fork out a bit extra to make sure we have good seats without too many stairs. But when with just mates or my Dad I'll just rock up.

There's escalators and lifts if you require them.

Just make sure every male wears a shirt or polo (regardless if worn under a jacket and out of sight), no rips in jeans / pants and nice shoes.

I'm guessing the Season Opener, Easter Monday, Anzac Eve, Anzac Day, and Queens Birthday ?

They upgraded the first few months of 91 this year I think, you shouldn't be too far away.
yeah I'm really close to getting in, now i just need to come up with the last $500 for the entrance fee :(

To be honest I think I might be one of the last generations to be able to get to to the 50 year member milestone, people were put on at birth and not even getting restricted until 25 years old so they would be 75 before becoming a 50 year member, I'll be 65 if i reach it.

does the provisional membership count towards the 50 year milestone?

Don't know for sure, but my guess would be no. Some members of my family have been told that even playing memberships don't count toward your 50 years (my dad, uncle and grandpa would probably all be 50 year members if they changed this).

No doubting the MCC compete with our footy clubs .... why do they?
Whats it cost the Melbourne based AFL clubs, not to mention the competition from the AFL !!
No wonder the Cats give the sars to both the Cricket Club & the AFL.
Its Aussie Rules ....

The MCC pays the price of a general admission ticket into the ticket pool for every member that scans in, so if 5,000 or so members show up, that's $125k paid into the ticket pool. I doubt clubs are complaining.

Im 2005... still waiting too

I reckon 4 more years... :(

Go Catters
Looks as if they only take in 6 months worth of members a year. Looking at around 16 years waiting...
