Chris McDermott has been proven right.
- All year he has been critical of our stoppage work. Against Hawthorn, we lost clearances 24-35, including a lamentable 3-12 in the last quarter.
- All year he's criticised our forward structure. Always top-heavy and too reliant on the sole 'small' Porps once the ball hits the ground. Who can argue with that?
I wish people could see past their opinion that he's bitter and twisted and realise he does actually know what he's talking about.
Thanks
Chris

Quoted from Wikipedia.

Dennis Keith "Fred" Phillis is an Australian rules footballer who was a prolific goal scorer, playing his entire senior career with SANFL club Glenelg in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
Phillis was nicknamed "Fred"[1] when his schoolmates likened him to the most famous Test cricket paceman of the day, 'Fiery Fred' Truman of Yorkshire and England. The nickname stuck and to many SANFL fans he is only known as "Fred" Phillis rather than by his birth name.

Is that who you are?

Yay, we get to spend all off season trying to learn a new mystery:D

Fred Phillis has always seemed to be in the know in a Sunday Mail/5AA way ...

No doubt he is right on those counts. Something that many of us raised here.

However, there are many other things that he just gets plain wrong. We shouldn't have let Hart go! We much have kept Clarke and its absolutely irrelevant that he managed half a dozen forgetable games at St. Kilda. That apparently is irrelevant because he is out side him home state

Does your body suddenly have problems functioning because you are out of your home state?!

There were also calls that we much go after Spider Everitt or Michael Gardiner after Clarke "announced his retirement".

He occasionally makes a good point but a lot of his opinion is just some dribble designed to get a reaction out of Crows faithful ;)

I think alot of that is still bitterness over the circumstances of his departure.

But stop posting off topic, this thread is devoted to trying to learn Fred Phillis' secret identity!:D

Didn't exactly take a genius to work this out, in fact I think everything that McDermott has mentioned, has probably been suggested on Bigfooty previously. It is obvious to all and sundry that the loss of Bode and Hentschell has been a massive problem. Our stoppage work has been affected by playing more younger midfielders who are learning the craft.

Rucks have suffered by having to use Griffin and Maric/Meesen, as these guys are also just learning the craft. I fail to see any great revelations from McDermott and his stint as coach also proves that he wasn't able to see things clearly for himself in that position.

he's entitled to an opinion, it's just that all he's doing is stating the bleeding obvious and trying to make it sound like he's discovered Noah's Ark.:)

He signed it at the end 'Thanks, Chris', does that tell us anything?

McDermott is the type of guy who says things like shouldn't have let Clarke and Hart go, but then is critical of the Crows for not developing youth!!!

If you are going to be critical, offer solutions to the problems, but also address the potential new problems you'll create. i.e. if Clarke had still played this year our rucks would be in a worse situation next year than this year.

Just for fun, can you guess who Fred Phillis is? Certainly a member of the club's SA media list of 50 and present at recent Crows press conferences.

Candidates:
Andrew Capel (the Advertiser)
Paul Dowling (TV, freelance)
Dion Hayman (Channel 9)
Paul Kermode (Channel 7)
Zac Milbank (the Advertiser)

Or could it be a surprise...;)

now that is just annoying - this is like KG and Cornesy Mystery voice - but without the prize :p

Wouldn't be Capel - doesn't seem to be a Crows fan, not sure about Zac - can you still get a job at the tiser if your a crows fan ?
Paul Dowling seems the best choice - but if it is sorry Paul i have no idea who you are :o

Plus his grammar and spelling seems to be pretty good so that normally counts out anyone who works for the advertiser ;) :p

Well wonder if he could be a Sunday Mail journo ?? They are a real profession group there. Did you read Chris's artivce in the Sunday Mail last Sunday....saying Port will be shaking about meeting the Crows in the Prelim. He wrote the story days before obviously and the editors did not pick up his inaccurate reporting. Not very professional. The Crows actually lost on Saturday!!
