MCG Roof

Will the MCG get a roof? Speculation is mounting but the MCG is denying there are plans for a roof.

What do you all think?

Really? Im not sure it's the best in Australia let alone the world. It's looking dated these days, sure it was world class in the 70's but lets not say it's still up there today.

Would have to be enormous, therefore costly and difficult.

Unlike other arenas the first level has a very shallow gradient and the upper levels are setback pretty far from the playing surface so it would be a much larger roof than any other stadium roof attempted IMO.

Your opinion and your entitled to it, but it is still most certainly the best stadium in this country ( yes i have been to the adelaide oval for footy and cricket ) in my opinion, a close prelim or grand final at the mcg or the sound the crowd made when mcculum got knocked over in the world cup final well quite simply nothing compares... And the facilities are still fine.

it won't. cricket at etihad is shit and the quality of the pitch wouldn't be as great with not much sunlight. It will be both shit for cricket and footy.

Strange comment. One of the best stadiums in the world - clearly the best in Australia. I've been to plenty of sport in the US and Europe - the G is hard to top.
Huge cricket matches, enormous AFL finals and regular season matches, huge international events such as the Liverpool V Victory match (in which Gerard said it was the best atmosphere he's ever played in front of), and plenty more.
Only explanation is bias I'd say.
