Where is he at? It's strange to say the least to see our former All Australian forward sitting in the reserves for half the season. He fired up for the first game, kicking 4 goals against the Bulldogs, then went missing for a while, then fired up again kicking 3 against Carlton and North then got dropped. Then came back, then dropped again 2 weeks later. Apparently he got told he needs to work on his defensive pressure? I never thought it was that bad, I did notice him lay some strong tackles, but I guess he wasn't zoning correctly or something?

I still think he's best 22, despite winning all 6 games since he got dropped, he can improve this side even more when he's on song. But it's certainly been a bizzare season for Medders.

It's understandable that it is tough to break into the current 22 due to how good our form is, but you'd think there is definitely a spot for Medders in there.

His VFL form has been very good over the past month. Every Thursday I've thought that this will probably be the week where he gets a go - yet he hasn't even been sighted in the emergency list.

Bizarre is probably the right word.

Maybe he'll come in this week?
Should know by 6.00.

Maybe, but even so, it's been a weird season for a guy so many of us thought was going to rebound from a pretty average 2009 season. Started the year with a bang only to fall arse up just as fast. Maybe he used up all his good faith credit in the latter half of last year?

Maybe the rumour surrounding his wanting to go home does have some legs...
I don't think it's a secret that he and Mick share a Love/Hate relationship.

There has to be something more to it.

Because I'd take an out of form Medhurst over any form of Tarkyn Lockyer any day of the week.

Yet we had an OUT of form Lockyer in place of Medhurst.

smh.

Well West Coast has made it clear that they are after a small forward to push Lecras into the midfield.

We clearly don't need him, especially with Macaffer playing well and once Dick is back, maybe a trade is on the horizon.

In saying that, really like him as a player, and i wish our forward line wasn't working so well without him, well kinda.. but you know what i mean.

Really interested to see if we will be active during the trade period.

I think his defensive pressure has actually been very good in the games he played, but as has mentioned he may have not been sticking to the zone discplines.

He has been playing in the midfield in the VFL maybe that is to work on his fitness to cover the required ground to play in the zone, or maybe it's just to get him involved more up the ground. I certainly think Medders needs to be able to play at HFF, he has played a majority of his best football over his career as a small KPF or third tall target. I think if he is to be succesful in our current side he needs to be able to play more as a HFF.

He has a very good record against Geelong but I expect him to come in against the Bombers.

Just keep something up your sleeve at this point against a team we'll have to beat in the finals to win it all. If he comes in against the Bombers he'll be very hungry and as Leon has been saying, the small forwards main job now is to apply defensive pressure 1st, then to kick goals and get goal assists.

No doubt Medders is best 22, but his defensive pressure needs to be at least as good as, say Blairs (currently playing across HF), when he comes back in.

Anyone worried that worsfold has come out and said they are in the hunt for a dangerous small forward?

We wouldn't give him up cheaply, and honestly if he isn't in our best 22 then I would be more than happy to move him along and address other issues. If it isn't purely a form and fitness thing, and he does want to go home, then I say we let him. Premiership teams have no room for people who don't want to be there.

He was not dropped after Round 7, he had endured a hot-spot in his foot that lingered for three weeks. He then made is return for the following two games where he was barely seen.

Definitely a big talent and his recent VFL form sounds good and consistent.

Can't be too far off and could be a real weapon at the pointy end. One of the best kicks for goal in the side which is handy for us.

Would love to see him come back into the side. He brings that x-factor and unpredictability to the team. When on song is very hard to match up on. He could be the icing to the forward line come finals... if he is in form.

Would love to see our forward line setup like this:

HF - Didak Cloke Beams
F - Medhurst Dawes Davis

Looks dangerous doesnt it.

He'll play finals, nothing surer imo.

Who for?

No idea.

Not even listed as an emergency this week. He'd want to get selected soon, he won't be playing finals unless he's had a few weeks to readjust to the tempo of AFL level footy.

I think Thommo was saying that he will play finals for either our senior team or VFL side. Either way, unless he gets injured, he will play finals.

If he has a good game this week, very likely to come in next week vs Dons.

He does well against them from memory, plus the timing would be right.

Just don't ask me who for, but that may become clear after Cats game.

MaCaffer is the player taking Meds spot, he isn't coming in for Davis, Dawes, Cloke, Leeroy, Beams, Sidebottom or any other forward, at any time.

If MaCaffer performs against the Cats on Saturday night, I don't think we will see Meds unless we get injuries.

Yep, think you're right about it being the Caff.

Sidey 'almost' needs a rest, if he struggles against geelong's big bodies, well there could be an opening there?

It has to be for the Caff. I love Brent's work, but Medders, when on song, offers a lot more.

Maybe Medhurst will play next week to give Sidebottom a rest, and if the Caff has a quiet two weeks, that might be it.

NOt even in emergencies (as Zahki also said) and Lockyer is - I'm starting to smell a rat, Medhurst form has been much better than Lockyer's in the 2's from all reports.

Even if he does want to go home so what? You still play him while he's here if he's good enough. He could always change his mind, but not if they refuse to play him. Maybe still carrying the foot injury?
