Funny how apparently all the bookies websites crashed today.

Must be fuming missing out on all those profits.

Mugs game..
So glad I quit.

I'm so over the Melbourne cup and other 'big' races.

When i was young i blindly followed all the hoopla for the lead up and day, entering sweeps and placing pointless bets and getting excited about a winner/race

Now its embarrassing to hear the catch cry 'The Race That Stops a Nation'

Cool story.

They're entertained by a lethal sport, death is part of the game.

Death is part of the game?
So the goal of horse racing is to kill the horse?
Must have missed that part.

Lol. You clearly have absolutely no clue

Lose a bit yesterday?

Part of the game doesn't mean it's the goal. Injuries are part of AFL, shooting horses is part of horse racing.

Clearly in horse racing the risk of death or injury for the animal and rider are both considered acceptable.

Now the rider is making a choice, the horse is not.

The counter argument is would any of those horses be alive if horse racing wasn't a thing?

It's big money, it isn't going anywhere any time soon

But seriously you make good points. There are so many examples in life where humans make decisions about animals for animals. We need to balance the utility and welfare aspects properly.

There’s been at least 3 deaths this year resulting from Australian Rules games.
Does that make it part of the sport?

Killing humans for out entertainment...truly disgusting and a disgrace we have an entire massive forum dedicated to this barbaric sport called football.

Best part of the day is seeing the pictures of the drunk mid-20s to mid-40 year-olds stumbling their way home after the event, occasionally throwing up or falling over, as if they're a 16-year-old teenager at their first house party.

Embarrassing. You can't date someone like that.

Would never see me like that- just have a few drinks/tipsy stage but never that vomiting/passing out no way.

I've been to two Oaks Day was more interested in the actual horses tbh.
