The build up to the first match of the season

The Round one opening match of the 2007 Premiership season between St Kilda and Melbourne will be played in honour of emergency service volunteers and staff, to recognise their commitment and dedication during the fire season.

With support from the Bracks Government, the AFL, St Kilda Football Club and Melbourne Football Club, this game will provide a fitting opportunity to thank the many people who were involved in supporting the battle against the bushfires over summer.

Big match!

Can't wait really.

I am leaning towards the demons beating us, but we are a good chance.

Will be good (if it happens) M.Clarke, L.Ball, N.Dal santo, L.Hayes all lining up in the midfield for the first bounce in 2007.

GO SAINTERS.

i think our midfeild will really have to dominate over there's for us to get the win. hudghtons bogey opponent in recent times has been neitz and we have a few under done players. if riewoldt doesnt play we will need kossy and gehrig to really stand up and kcik a lot of goals. hope to see armitage debut

Armitage seems to have a bit of talent so I'd like to see his debut too. Dissapointing not to watch Riewoldt play as he is supurb to watch when on song (Remember watching him kick about 20 against us) but it'll obviously not benefit Melbourne.

Might need a tighter tag on McLean this time ;)

Geez I really want to win this one.

We'll miss Max although Neitz is probably one of the few players that he has had genuine trouble with in the past.

The importance of Riewoldt goes without saying. We need him up and running and if that means having to miss the first game or two then that's the best thing for us.

All in all it's going to be a tough game to win against good opposition. The challenge has been made even harder with a host of players lacking match fitness to go with the important players already out.

Still, we've got a great midfield and the services of a ruckman who can actually find a teammate. The forward line even without Riewoldt is capable of scoring a lot of goals. I'm really looking forward to it.

Interesting to see Jayden Attard promoted from the rookie list and placed straight into the team. I haven't seen much of him but he seems to have been groomed for a negating role in the midfield or in defence. Clinton Jones seemed to be the popular choice should Hamill be added to the long term injury list but Lyon looks to be a fan of Attard.

Suprised Ferguson and Voss arent playing!

Fergie did a hammy in the practice game against Port Adelaide.

Voss has had an interrupted pre-season. I don't know how he went for the Scorpions last week but it's a surprise not to see him there.

Where is Hudghton? Didn't know he wasn't going to play. HUGE shoes for S Fisher to fill.

Not really, if Fisher doesn't get 8 kicked on him he'll have done better than Max.

Max is good at times, but Neitz just always smashes him.

Anyway, midfield battle will be a ripper - Melbourne probably have the better players available in the forward and backlines, but if Hayes and Ball play to potential Saints would have the edge in the middle.

Travis Johnstone has had a massive pre-season, and is noticeably stronger so keep an eye on him as he's seems primed for a big year.

Green has a good history against the Saints particularly, and he had the foot surgery required to correct his kicking boot so hopefully his laser like precision is back.

I think Melbourne will win through better footskills and a forward line that seems to have a few too many options for a St Kilda side without Max and Voss in it.

good post rick.. much more analytical than the arguments you get into on bay 13.. i'm probably going to have to agree with you, melbourne should win by around 4 goals me thinks

Can someone please tell me how does this affect him on terms on availability for the next months? I just don't know what's the Long Term Injury List (although I can imagine it, but I want to know for sure).

I can't remember having anticipated a game of footy more than this one in the past couple of years. It's gunna be a cracker of a game.

Two of the competitions elite, yet underrated, midfields squaring off under lights at the G. Can't get much better than that.

Seeing Maguire injured was awesome, he's a deadset w@nker and I wil be giving him a massive spray on friday night about it, he's a douchebag and belong at St Kilda - if you're there feel free to mention to me how much of a dropkick you think I am. Will not happen.

..Who actually gives a rats arse what you think Rick james..after that last statement you have proven what most people think about you

Seconded. What a world RJ must live in to come out with this brain dead slur. And personally, I've found Matty to be a bloody great bloke.

I think we all know that Rick James is friendless as well as motherless. Pathetic individual.:thumbsd:

I guess none of you geniuses worked out I didn't post that on here, and actually posted it in Bay 13, the forum for trolling and banter?

Pretty average efffort to try and misquote me like that, tsk tsk.

But you did post it, you pathetic little toerag. It's definitely trolling; banter? Nope, that needs an element of humour, and you're as funny as a stool in a punchbowl.

I didn't post it here, I posted it on the TROLLING board.

Try to understand that, just give it a shot, you might even begin to understand

I know where you posted it, you tool. The same place you shot your wad pre-game, but didn't have the cojones to back up the crap you were sprouting when called to put your wallet where your gob was taking you.

Posting in a trolling board is not a license to sprout the type of rubbish you revel in. Banter is always good natured; vitriol like yours is just mean-spirited and low class trash.

You are a knob. :thumbsd:
