Mercuri ave disposals - 18.7, marks - 4.8, goals - 1.2, tackles 1.7, premierships - 2, total games - 207

Didak ave disposals - 16.5, marks - 4.2, goals - 1.4, tackles 1.8, premierships - 1, total games - 182

being Essendon Im biased and think Mercuri is ahead. If Didak tears it apart in the next couple of years he could potentially close the gap or even pass Mercs. but its a tough ask

Ehhh this a genuinely good poll and a very hard choice. Probably Dids, just. But a bees dick in it.

Quite sad to see Dons fans clinging onto something that occured more than 10 years ago.

lol not sure if this is a serious thread?

Surely a piss-take?

Totally agree if we only remember Mercuris last 40-50 odd games. His first 150 were brilliant. Didaks a great player but he hasn't had a season like Mercs did in 99, even 93 for that matter. Was pretty good inbetween those years as well but they were standouts. His personal problems & the fact his groin was stuffed after 2000 finished him. He was a hell of a lot tougher at the contest than Didak & great mark overhead for his size. Didak kicks more of the miracle goals but Mercuri set more goals up for the likes of Lloyd, Lucas, Hird & Salmon than Didak has for his key forwards. Didak plays more on the ball than Mecuri did but thats more to do with the way midfield rotations have gone in the last 5 years.

trolling essendon for being crap for the last 10 years doesnt work in a player poll.

on topic, im going to say mercuri just.

didak has more tricks, but at the end of the day, didak has a nutural motion/action to side-step a contest on a regular basis.

dont get me wrong, didak is a very good player, but when comparing players of similar talent, its makes the choice a lot easier.

Over the journey I'd say Didak.....but Mercuri's season in 99 is better than any season of Didak's IMO.

2nd in Brownlow...AA selection...BnF all in 1999.

ripping poll atm i would say mercs but dids might catch up by the time his finished

Mercuri was a Rolls Royce of a footballer. Unfortunately his last 2-3 seasons (and that 5 year deal) will be what he is remembered for. But prior that, he was seriously up there with Hird for his influence on the game.

Didn't watch enough Essendon games during Mercuri's prime to have a say on this poll, but I will pull you up on this.

In his two AA seasons 2006/2010, Didak was 1st and 3rd respectively in the AFL in goal assists. You're more than welcome to question his hardness, his defensive side etc...but he's superb at setting up goals.

Great thread...as hard to split em.

Didak suffer's as he took a long time to become AFL ready, so the first half of his career he was a forward pocket/flanker who was often injured, and didn't have the concentration that was needed.

On the other hand Merc's slotted in from day 1, his 1st season was close to his best football.

Since 2006, when Didak finally produced and won the BnF as a goal kicking HF, he has been nothing short of outstanding.

In 2008 & 2009, Didak was the competition's leading kicker per game....an outrageous stat for a bloke who is arguably the best kick going around. He also has lead goal assist stats, all the while slotting 40+ goals himself a couple of times.

No surprises that as Didak has turned into an elite player that Collingwood has gone deep into the finals!

How old are you mate?

Both absolute guns. At the peak of his powers Mecuri was ahead of Didak in my opinion, not a great deal in it though.

Saw Mercuri through the late 90s (am 22), no doubt was a very good player but Didak is just something more special.

Didak does things that seriously should not be done. He is a magician and the closest thing in the modern game that resembles Daicos.

Mercuri cost his side a premiership in 99'. He was also laughable in his last 60 games.

if you're 22 now, I don't think you could have really appreciated just how good Mercuri was. As stated, Didak is a jet, and has masses of X Factor.

But Mercuri was incredible, so skilllful. I think it's telling that James Hird nominated Mercuri as the best player he'd ever played with
