Re: Ziebell or Hartlett?

if you have read any of my posts on the draft you will know my opinion on pick 5 and that is use it on hurley, imo he is the most promising player that will be around and pick 5 and definately suits our needs.

i actually going to side with ^^ i would strongly consider using pick 5 on kerr. a proven great midfeilder would be really handy.

on topic though i think hartlett is the better player of the two and i would choose him over ziebell if they were the choices

Well, the poll was about two midfielders so I wasn't thinking about KPP, and I agree that Hurley would be a good pick but I cast my vote for Trengove over Hurley months ago and I stick by it.

As far as Kerr goes obviously he is worth pick five (and more!) but that is not why I called Tippaz a fool.

If we were to take a midfielder with our first pick, then i'd go with Hartlett.

I just really like the look of him and he would add some pace and class to our midfield. Also prefer him over Ziebell because he is a natural on-baller where Ziebell is a utility and may not become a full time mid.

Also like the fact that he plays both inside and outside.

I would still prefer Hurley with pick 5 but if we could upgrade our second rounder to get Trengove then i like the idea of picking Hartlett

Who are the better ruckmen that we can look at in the third and fourth rounds?
Jordan Roughead maybe?

Yep. Jordan Roughead (VC), Jarred Reddan (SA) & Andrew Browne (VC) should all be picked up in that third/fourth round vicinity.

Pick 5: Hamish Hartlett
Pick 23: Jordan Lisle
Pick 39: Rory Sloane
Pick 54: Johnny Rayner

:)
I saw you mentioned him on BomberBlitz as a small defender type that we've been lacking :thumbsu:
I think we could pick him up a little later on, maybe with our fourth rounder and look at Roughead at pick 39.

Hoping for something like this:
5: Hartlett
23: Trengove
39: Roughead
54: Sloane

Here's some footage of Sloane for others who don't know him:

I've mentioned this before....

What if we draft a mature aged ruckman from a lower league (eg. VFL, SANFL etc) with one of our late picks?

Does anyone know of any mature aged ruckmen that have showed a bit at state level?

And don't say Ricky Mott or Lachlan McKinnon. :D

Isn't he expected to go in the top 10? That's a fair slide...

I edited my post :p

We do need a small defender and Sloane looks ok from the footage I've seen.

Can't see him going top 10. There's Naitanui, McKernan and Vickery above him and i'm predicting either during the second round or third. There are quite a few ruckmen in this draft that look like good prospects, but definitely can't see him going top 20 even.

Roughead top 10? He'll be lucky to be picked up in the first round in my opinion.

We'll see...

North Ballarat Rebels coach Chris Maple rates Jordan Roughead among the best under-18 ruckmen going around after Roughead starred in the 90-point win at home against Eastern Ranges yesterday. A cousin of Hawk star Jarryd, the 199cm Roughead is one of several possible first-round draft ruck picks, along with West Australian standout Nicholas Naitanui and Sandringham Dragons' Tyrone Vickery.

"I think he's been really impressive," Maple said last night.

"If the recruiters are pushing Naitanui to be No. 1, then Jordan Roughhead's really putting himself up there because he did really well against him and again (yesterday) he played against a boy taller than him (Andrew Renton) and played exceptionally well and pushed forward and kicked three goals.

"He's got more than just ruck duties to his bow. He can take a contested mark and move around the ground."

We'll see...

I wouldn't read too much into that. As I said, I would be surprised to see him go first round. With Naitanui, Vickery, McKernan & Trengove ahead of him, I can't see where he fits in early on in proceedings.

^That sounds pretty cocky on behalf, I didn't mean for that ^.

I have no interest in Roughead. After reading some of the phamtom drafts and the wires, I was a little surprised that Windas had him so low.

Thanks for putting things back into perspective.

"claims of grandeur", he says ???
Merv Neagle, i took a great of time to dig these up, but i think you should give it a read.
from a different footy website, but if you don't believe me......
note the dates of my comments regarding Selwood.

i love Gumbleton, i love Myers, i love all the Essendon players, and i will love whoever we draft with the next bunch because i'm Essendon thru & thru.
but you can't go accusing me of jumping on the Selwood bandwagon AFTER he wins Rising Star and makes AA squads, when cleary i was super keen LONG BEFORE.

and for the record, i think the draft is over-rated. dunno how many times i've said this but the average player lasts 4 years in the system. good draft picks don't automatically equate to success.

Yes, so what you rated Sellwood after the draft in those posts as well. Big deal. We had a dig becasue you where indicating before the draft ;) I think it was very obvious to most 4 or 5 weeks into the 2007 season how good he could be.
Anyone who saw him play TAC Cup knew how good he was. The risk was his knee which is why he slipped 3 or 4 spots.
Anyway you are not the sole genious that you think you are. If you do a search back to the 2006 draft threads you will find that Daytripper was very keen on him well before the draft and is on record as saying so several times before the event.

As far as the draft being over rated , well how else are you going to get players ? the guys who you where pumping up , Sellwood and Palmer went to their clubs via the draft did they not ?
The draft is what it is but so is trading away picks for proven players. Do the numbers on how many years players stay on the list after they have been picked up via a trade. You will find they are not all that convincing either.
With the information available now the draft is becoming more reliable at producing good players in the top 50. You can not use figures based on the complete history of the draft to paint a picture of what happens now as for a lot of years there where no draft camps or state screenings to get some raw data on the kids you where going to draft.

btw, Ant I'm sure this may have been asked previously, but how is Hartlett's pace? As in is it explosive pace with which he could take opponents on, or is it just so-so?
