Unbelieveable game to watch. I honestly have not enjoyed a game on TV this year more so then today's game. (Including the Collingwood games)

I just witnessed our future stars. The batch of players that will be guiding the Magpies into the next decade.

First and for most, congratulation to Nathan Buckley, you're a deadset champion of the game. Quite remarkable the way he was able to get through today's game. 28 possessions and 4 goals in 3 and a half qtrs, which also included spells on the bench in each other qtr.

Ben Reid was named BOG, with his 11+ marks and 4 goals and 3 behinds. I think all 2-3 of his goals were from quite difficult angles and far out. He also presented very well, and has quite a good kick on him when 50 out from goals.

Chris Dawes, do you guys realise that today was this guys first ever VFL game? He kicked 4 goals, and it was one in each qtr. Quite a pleasing result for this youngster. 18yo that weighs 92kgs so will be more bustling when he gets a pre-season under his belt.

In my eyes, I think the key midfielders/HBFers of today that provided the run consistently for Willy were Iles and Stanley, they both had a hatful of possessions between them and ran all day, gave an option around the ground all day and generally were easily amongst the best in every qtr.

Brown was a bit quiet, but didn't see him do much wrong. Presti was off with an injuried ankle, hopefully not too serious. Davies was in and out of the play throughout the whole day, but also, didnt do too much wrong. And Toovey was solid in the backline.

One guy I was impressed with was Cox, he did a great job in the backline. He jsut has this magic about him where he can easily evade players and find himself in space, he will be something special for us in years to come.

I think I've left out two other Collingwood players.

For Willy, Strutton provided some run, Rose was very good early, I was impressed with Meyer and there was also Lockwood and a couple of others who did pretty well.

If Coxy can get some confidence up at senior level he will be a very handy player. Just needs more gametime in the big league before he really impresses.

Re: Pies in at Willy

I know most people think he is on the way out, but Lica absolutely towelled em today and it is good to have him there and able to run like he did all day. Watching him and Buckley 'wax' each other was an awesome sight, almost brought a lump to my throat, well it bought a lump somewhere. Well done Lica, professional effort and shows you still have plenty to offer, I note both MM and Gav Brown were there.

Licca is to Slow for AFL but Dominate in the VFL

Re: Pies in at Willy

I only saw the 1st and 4th quarters but great to see Bucks back on the park. Also from what I saw Licca had a very solid day out too. Great to see our kids and vets contribute to a comprehensive smashing of the opposition.

one you missed was Martin Clarke, how did he go?

Willi Game - thoughts

Thought I'd start something where we could share our views about the Williamstown game today.

Obvious starters, Bucks could not have done much more, he's stil got the awesome penetration in his kicking, his nearly ripped a few Port boys in two when tackling them, found the ball and kicked some goals. I believe he finished with 28 touches, 7 marks and 4 goals in about 70-75% of game time.

Reid and Dawes:
Exciting. Reid especially further up the ground, moves a lot like Cloke with a good long left foot. Dawes was strong as an ox inside 50, missed a couple that he should've kicked but the delivery from the middle couldn't have been better.

Licuria:
Haven't seem him at Willi this year but looked a cut above the rest. In and under, tough with the ball and his disposal was pretty good.

Clarke:
Solid, did some good things, a long goal was a highlight, nothing spectacular, probably just back in there to find the ball again.

Cox:
Killed Pitt who is Port's go-to man up forward along with Dukes. Agile and quick, helped rebound the ball well.

Stanley:
One of the best on ground. Played a midfield role, got plenty of it, pretty quick for his size.

Others:
Davies - kicked goal of the day, 3 bounces from defensive 50 then let rip from inside the square, pretty good
Brown - Didn't have to do much, but impressed with his field kicking
Iles - standard VFL form. Got a lot of it in close, worked well with Licuria

Anyone who was there, did Wellingham play in the Reserves?

Re: Willi Game - thoughts

Dont think he played at all was main emg last night so likely wasnt named but missed Ressies so im not certain

Sorry thats it!
Clarke was good around the backline, he wasn't playing a Heath Shaw role, he was playing pretty deep in the backline, and was very calm. Geez this kid loves to run and recieve!
Latter stages of the game he was running through the middle like.... *insert something*!

He loves to run and run and run and the way he feeds off and continues running to recieve his own ball back only shows his deseperation and enjoyment out there. That goal in the 3rd or 4th on the run from outside 50 was Paul Williams style, absolutely spectacular kick on him! Needs a bit more time at Willy as other Pie players outshone him, but thats taking absolutely nothing away from him, very solid, nothing wrong.

good signs

Interested how Stanley went in the middle?

Did he get many clearances/in and under footy/ contested possies? It would be great if he can continue to improve and then he could fill the void left when Burnsy hangs em up?

he looks very similar to burnsy in the guts...got a fair bit of the ball around the ground and with a good preseason under his belt he should be given a run there next season

he definitely isnt a key defender

Probably BOG up to half time. He teamed really well with Bucks in the middle and they were probably the main reason for the first half massacre. Shifted to HFF and HBF after half time but the game was over by then. Really good game.

Stanley has improved a lot in the areas which people had great concerns about i.e. his kicking and his awareness. He has now become quite a neat kick and doesn't overdo it when running with the ball (used to have some Richard Cole like moments trying to take one too many players on).

is there 2 different contents in the drink bottles
I saw the trainer hand one to bucks and I'm sure i read his lips say "nah the water" and the trainer swapped the bottles

One water one gatorade heard the runners going on about it at the bench, real boring job. Stats girls were of good sort though

Dunno how these rumours get around. He's always been a good kick. I remember there was lot of chat about it but no-one seemed to have seen him. His recruiting blurb had him as a "booming kick" or something like that but apparently some blokes best mates brothers girlfiend saw him kick a clanger one day....
