Wouldn't think it the end of the world if we picked him up but would find it goes against what the club says was our plan going into next year. Either we back in the guys in the maggoos to give us the next step by their improvement, or we go outside of the group to get that improvement. As they have said the plan was the former, then back yourselves in and give the Knights, Hamptons, Menzels, CEYs and Greenwoods a chance to show what they have.

We were a couple of victories off top spot and a couple of quicker mids off being a genuine finals team this year. If we back in some quicker mids with good disposal to take the Thommo/Lyons spots ( as well as moving on underperforming 150-200 game players) then good, I understand us not trading 2 first rounders for Gibbs and going to the draft. I may not agree with passing up Gibbs but the club has stuck to its guns and rightly or wrongly will be judged on that next year.

If they stifle development by putting Thommo and Barlow in the guts...then we learnt nothing from the finals this year and will be easybeats once again when we face a top 6 side t the pointy end.

Gibbs averages 393 metres gained a game, Barlow 256 . Kicking longer compared to dinky kicks will always lead to lower disposal efficiency. We already have enough mids with low metres gained in the Crouch boys.

Barlow has 2 more contested possessions a game.

You don't think Gibbs is quicker than Barlow? Not by much but he is.

Barlow isn't close to being a replacement for Gibbs.

Think its fair to say Gibbs is a much better footballer thats really not the arguement. Adelaide now probably have some cap space they can use and are investigating ways to use it. Personally with 15 players coming out of contract in 2017 sign some up now frot end the contract and have cap space next year when Martin Kennedy Fyfe all become free agents, there is going to be some huge bids on offer and a lot of clubs wont be able to compete with cap space. I can see hawthorn having it, with what they are off loading can we put ourselves in a position to grab Martin he will be the cheapest and I think most likely to jump ship

If we grab Barlow, surely that is a nail in the career of Thommo.

They did say he will have a different role.

Wait and see I guess.

Seems to me this is our plan B. Not get Gibbs or Rokcy in the trade period. Pick up Barlow for free.

In term of player quality it is swings and roundabouts. Barlow was a good player in a great team (he will be the only player on our list with GF experience). Gibbs and Rocky were the best players in poor teams. None of the three are genuine A graders IMO. But all help to fill that gap of midfielders 26yo+ in which we only have one quality mid in his prime years, Sloaney.

I don't get it either

Guys like
Crowbots are dead Maggsy BunjiMC

Want to bitch & moan about the content they consume but don't want to create any content of their own

It's like they still want others to do it for them, but want it delivered to spec

Any more entitled and they'd be part of ports china delegation :p ;)

'I want to expand our brand overseas, but I wan't you to pay for it'... absolute joke

The only thing that really irritates me in this whole LM fiasco is the way in which supporters are treated.

If the club felt that we were in "missing piece of the puzzle territory" then have the honesty, respect and common decency to come and say "we believed we needed to add an experienced mid, undortunately Gibbs wasn't to be - but we will continue to explore all options"

Right ok I can see where theyre at - fingers crossed we can get something. So we pick up Barlow - boom, maybe not my cup of tea but hey, fits with what they are trying to achieve.

By releasing statements saying our strategy was always taking 13 to the draft and organic growth - now I'm thinking why is Barlow potentially going to take a list spot and game time when our strategy is promote from within.

From a PR perspective it's been a horror show from the club

It's what I was try to get at in the Fagan thread. I wonder how much the AO bounce has them all thinking the good times will never end?

There's a whiff of complacency that wasn't there 2 years ago

I actually think the club has learnt from a few weeks ago. They came out in the public RE: Gibbs. Didn't eventuate and they had egg on their face. If they were to confirm they still needed to add an experienced mid and were unsuccessful in obtaining Barlow, we would be in the same situation twice. Playing their cards close to their chest reduces the risk of it all blowing up in front of them. Even if we do pick up Barlow, we are still taking 13 to the draft and will have 'organic growth'.

jumboprince are you actually Gary Ayres?

You should start a thread where all the positive supporters can get together and sing Kum Ba Yah.

Maybe they should be directed to the Adelaide Crows Pride forum on Facebook.

Possibly the most sycophantic, insular and ignorant group of supporters I have ever seen sans the Port Power Bigfooty board.

Imagine if we'd got Gibbs AND bring in Martin next year. We'd have a man-bun and... whatever that... thing... is on Martin's head. That's just not what the Adelaide footy club is about :P

We couldnt afford both in the cap! Martin needs a few more tatts forget the hair and we could try and get his old man back in the country and a job at the club, maybe security for showdowns

That's fine but manage the message without misleading.

All that needed to be said after missing Gibbs is we are continuing to explore all options including 2017 FAs.

Sure there is disappointment in that - but it leaves the Barlow door ajar and it tells us where they think the list is at.

Right now as things stand can anyone say with confidence that they understand where the club feels it's at with regard to the list?

Good idea. Enjoy wallowing misery guts
We'll have you started it yet?

And when it comes to my footy ****ing oath I am miserable.

I want to win premierships.
We haven't played in a grand final in 18 years.
We keep losing quality players including the recent Brownlow medalist.
Our club was done for salary cap rorting losing picks.
We were one win from a top 2 finish and blew it at home.
We've just come off one of the most inept diabolical trade periods in history.

So yeah I'm miserable.

Imagine what it's like as a player.

Further to the Gibbs v Brownlow comparison.

One thing I forgot to mention with Barlows average metres gained of 250, Lyons was at 350. Good call Adelaide.
