It'll be Hawthorn, they'll use him as insurance until JOM is ready to go. Not sure he's enough to tip anyone over the edge though, is he from Victoria originally ??

Could be the missing piece to keep us a couple of spots above port
I'm sorry. I don't mind your postings and you come up with good stuff mostly, but I hate this attitude. Who gives a flying F about Port? If we finish above them , great. if we finish below , not so great. But this is the attitude I sometimes think the club takes. Lets be above Port.

Pretty sure that's what he was implying with that post. Certainly set off my sarcasm detector anyway.

Noble would not have had the authority to complete a trade without the approval from list management and the board.

People at some point need to understand this was not the sole decision of Justin Reid.

Wouldn't get too carried away here

Reid/noble will do the recommending to the board and also layout what they think it will cost

Not many, but the last 12 years has been dominated by 3 teams with that kind of longevity, I want that.

They didn't achieve that by treating strategy as binary - "either we're planning for the future, or we're planning for now, which is it?" - they did both. They planned to be successful, and they planned to stay successful.

What were we planning to do for the last wholly unsuccessful decade?

Barlow has been discarded by freo for a reason probably the same reason everyone wanted Thommo cut

He may have a few good games and be some depth but he will be no match winner or else freo would have hung on to him

I don't think MB is an old spud at all.

I actually have no problem with us picking him if he is what the club thinks we need. Close to making a GF, just lacked a big body that could match Kennedy, missed Gibbs, fine go with MB.

What I object to is that strategy doesn't align with the party line - we never intended recruiting a ready made mid, our intention was always just to go to the draft and rely on organic growth.
Yes, there have been mixed messages in the last month.

It's like since noble left no one is writing the script to ensure everyone is on the same page.

I'd like to see what the average team demographic looks like for premiers at the time they win.

If we really do rule out Thompson, MacKay and Douglas as many of us want, I feel our list looks quite young and inexperienced. It can be done, or course, the Bulldogs did it this year, but I feel our window opens wider when our 20-23 year olds are 23-26.

I'm not sure where the idea that it's 17/18 or bust comes from.
We had built our list, and managed contracts, to target 2017/2018.

Then danger left.

So do we get ready to go additions to maximise our chances by trying to finish top 4?
Or do we target more time for organic growth?

Im still unclear on our priorities. No one said its bust - its just very clear 17/18 was the intent when walshy and fages started 2015.

That's the key, the club has a choice to make, grab Barlow and they can't play Thommo.

Next year is going to be a watershed year in our history I reckon and will tell us so much about our club and whether we live up to Elite Standards.

Another year of Thommo, Mackay and Douglas with Barlow instead of Menzel, Hampton, Knight, Milera and Wigg and we are going nowhere.
If we get Barlow, and assuming the form of Thommo, Mackay and Douglas follows the same trajectory from this year. I expect my feelings towards selections next year to be as follows:

Barlow + none of the three = happy
Barlow + one of the three = acceptable
Barlow + two of the three = pissed (note: I don't drink)
Barlow + all of the three = fire and brimstone

Triple M Footy’s Jay-Z Clark believes Gold Coast is the most likely destination for formerFremantle midfielder Michael Barlow.

However, Jay-Z told Triple M's Rush Hour that no clubs had put their hand up yet to recruit the 28-year-old.

Barlow departed the Dockers on Monday after 126 games in seven seasons for them.

The ball magnet was dropped for two weeks this season, but, after his return to the senior line-up, performed strongly – including a career-best game in Round 13 against Port Adelaide where he collected 43 disposals and two goals.

He missed the last six games of the year due to a shoulder injury.

Barlow has also been linked with a possible move to Adelaide.

We have the player himself say there's been interest from a few clubs, Jay Clark says otherwise. Suns would be mad to recruit him IMO.

He's only been linked to us because Kane Cornes said we should recruit him.

Teammate joins him..

Just on that still nothing from the AFC as yet...
We've delisted Lowden with VB and MJ retiring. We've only got 4 picks in the draft and one of them will be used on ROB. I reckon we will see 2/3 more from the main list go, suspect Sam Shaw will have to retire but the others who knows.

Edit- Grigg and Hendo to go with Lyons traded. Thats 6 spots, 5 if we upgrade ROB. Maybe 1 more rookie upgrade or perhaps room for Barlow.

Yep and no Grand Final or Premiership for almost 20 years but hey...we never bottom out. Well whoop de doo. /sour

You can be as sour as you like, here are the premiers for the last 20 years.

1996- North Melbourne
1997- Adelaide
1998- Adelaide
1999- North Melbourne
2000- Essendon
2001- Brisbane
2002- Brisbane
2003- Brisbane
2004- Port Adelaide
2005- Sydney
2006- West Coast
2007- Geelong
2008-Hawthorn
2009- Geelong
2010- Collingwood
2011- Geelong
2012- Sydney
2013- Hawthorn
2014- Hawthorn
2015- Hawthorn
2016- Western Bulldogs

What does it mean? 3 teams account for half of those flags, namely Hawthorn-4 times, Geelong and Brisbane 3 times.
For the remaining ten years, 3 teams account for 2 flags, namely Adelaide,North Melbourne and Sydney.
The other 4 years were won by individual clubs.
There are 8 other teams who have not won a flag in that time yet you are sour with us only winning two.

maybe he doesn't want to go to the gold coast?

maybe he doesn't want to go to the gold coast?
It would be a hard sell thats for sure, especially with the apparent news that GAJ wanted to leave this year too.

maybe he doesn't want to go to the gold coast?
Looking at your posting history your obviously in the know re Michael.....so he's not keen on the Gold Coast, so how's he feel with regard to suiting up for Adelaide or does he want to head home to Victoria as a preference??
