I'm surprised by those that have little faith in the club think we'll start the season with Thompson before quickly bringing him in after a couple of losses.

I more see him having a strong pre season after a good off-seasons worth of rest. He'll be killing it in the pre season we'll have next to no chance to not play him. He'll come out firing in the first 2-3 games which will buy him another 4-6 worth of games before his position is questioned. Basically what he did this year, first 6 games were great, big drop off after which at first is just a poor game or two then maybe questions of him tiring followed by the bye so he should be good to go again.

Here is another one of Roos commentary pieces, nothing in this about targeting anyone just generalisations. See I can also find commentary to back up my stance as well.

And If you did comprehend, my original post was about posters having a cry about being lied too....whoopy f#@king do...lets slit our wrists because things didn't turn out like we wanted or the perception the club gave us.

Do we have adults posting here that have life experience about how things operate in this big bad world or do we have 5 year olds posting that believe in the tooth fairy.
That's the funniest thing I've read in a long time.

You may be right but I hope that given the amount of time it took to get agreement on the contract and potentially the $$ value proves the opposite.

I do agree that Thommo shouldn't be 1st cab off the rank regardless and would be bitterly disappointed if we use Thommo anywhere near the way we used him this year.
Time to move on.

This is exactly what Roo said but of course in BigFooty speak it means we'll trade for a midfielder. Sometimes people hear what they want to hear not necessarily what was said and the context it was said in.

http://www.afc.com.au/news/2016-09-19/crows-hunt-more-mids

I remember listening to this when he said it on MMM and in no way was it definitive that we will trade for a midfielder. His comments were pretty clear that if we need to add another midfielder some way. Technically speaking if we sign Barlow and/or draft a midfielder we did exactly what Roo said we would try and do.
Yeah I guess if we pick up Kirkwood from Sturt as a rookie, "technically" we've done what we said we would too.

PS I already posted the quote Champ :thumbsu:

From September 2015, Robert Walls article:

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-ne...wont-win-the-premiership-20150927-gjvz2s.html

Michael Barlow's time is up. He has become crab-like, stopping the forward momentum of his team. His lack of pace sees him repeatedly side-step and backpedal because for him it's the safe option. His kicking lacks sharpness and penetration, highlighted when he squandered two goal kicking opportunities in Friday night's final quarter. Chris Mayne simply doesn't do enough as a permanent forward. Averaging just over a goal a game for the minor premiership team represents a poor return. Next year it's time for Alex Pearce and Matt Taberner to be given opportunities there.
Like a lot of people have been saying I guess. I've got a horrible feeling I'm thinking about the best of Barlow not the average?

Even though it's Walls, makes me think the naysayers are right on this one.

Too many clubs in the hunt for Barlow it wiill force up his price and lenght of contract up, you could take a punt on the guy for a year by year contract, but to commit to longer with a larger income is pure stupidity
A lot of clubs are after Barlow because he is a very good midfielder, which we are in need of.

We shouldn't be looking to sign players no one is interested in.

Can you see Knight starting in the guts next year at all?

To me he seems the closest thing to an onballer out of Milera,Menz and himself.
When the whole Neale debate was raging .....it was my view, that Knight could be an ideal midfielder .......he's quick, but has the aerobic capacity required of a midfielder, and Knight is an aggressive tackler ....i like him, but also the view is also influenced by the fact Milera / Menzel are not as advanced IMO

What do you mean technically? Roo said through "draft or trade or whatever" ...
Well it's true, technically we would have fulfilled the goal. Contextually, though, we all know that wouldn't be the case.

We shouldn't be signing a guy for three years that is likely to be cooked', freo didn't cut him because he was still a very very good player, he is a punt I don't want a three year punt.

If other teams are forcing both his value and length of contract up let them take the punt

Sloane developed from an outside to inside/outside midfielder... & I see no reason why knight can't either.

We used Atkins in patches as an inside midfielder & we should develop as many as possible who can do both, as gives us flexibility & depth like the hawks dynasty had.

Smith is the other who we should try as in inside/outside player too.

In U18s Smith was a very good inside midfielder and we recruited him as a midfielder. I am disappointed that we haven't pushed him into the midfield by now. His game in 2015 against Collingwood at Etihad where he played in the midfield was outstanding before he got a kick to the head and missed a game with concussion. Not sure if we are protecting him or not but I think adding him into the midfield rotation would solve some of our midfield problems.

You're 50% right according to the radio guy who works with Barlow and has discussed it with him - game opportunity etc

But the premiership window aspect is important to Barlow. He wants to play in a team that is a flag chance, and has spent a lot of time talking to Pyke.

I think we're a big chance.
surely he has made up his mind by now. can't see him being up in the air about where he is going. even if we dont know about it

This is exactly what will happen. Mackay, being an outstanding trainer, will be in exactly the same boat.

Come round 1 you can throw out all previous performances. It's all about training.

pretty sure the club is protecting him, can't see him having a long career if the concussions keep occurring. best to keep him on the flanks and him playing out his career, than send him into the middle and being out indeffinatley

Didn't look cooked to me in the games he played in the midfield this year. Plenty of players get cut for all sorts of reasons but still have plenty to offer.

Probably the most creative and damaging HB in the game.

In my humble opinion he is worth more to us where he is.

Did you hear his assessment of Troy Menzel?

Yet people are happy to ignore that and assume Menzel will be in the side next year.

That article is from Robert Walls, he says twenty things and usually gets 5 right, he will eventually get some stuff right, you've just got to guess with him which is accurate
