Didn't think much of his year with the cats he certainly had a lot more run played in the mid did so much damage maybe that's what happens when you get old, you slow down
Hasn't played mid for while now. Certainly not recruited as a mid for GWS, not with their fleet of jets. Was fantastic this year, couldn't have done much more.

This gif perfectly sums up this years trade period.

Heath shaw the only one out of all of those guys still at the top of his game.
The backline is pretty handy
Shaw and Enright All Aust this year Morris (played very well all finals ) and Grundy (had a good finals series) both played off in the GF this year and Gibson and Simpson both very handy players still

Rookie list only for Barlow please.

Barlow won't take a rookie list contract when others are offering a senior list contract

Not to mention I hate it when the rookie list is used to contract experience players, I would prefer to use the rookie list to find our next Laird, Cameron, Hartigan or ROB type of player

Agreed. We have a very good record with rookie picks and we don't usually spend them on older players.

I think flaky is a bit harsh and I certainly wouldn't look to trade him, we're short enough on elite kicks as it is - but I'm with you on the concussions. Really hasn't looked the same player since he copped a couple early last year. Up until then was on exactly the curve expected of such a talented junior and was probably the best half back in the game. He's had some good games since then but just looks under the level we know he's capable of consistently. In reality, at his best, he's a difference player, a guy that can change games with his pace, vision and kicking. Be huge to get him back to top form.
it is harsh I know, especially because repeat concussions are the worst re-occurring injuries you can have in my opinion. It's one thing to have to sit out for a year while your knee heals but one two many knocks to the head can **** your entire life up.

I just worry about how they might have effected his ceiling already and especially worried about a Scott Stevens scenario. I wouldn't make trading him out a number one priority of course, BUT if a big fish did come along and we needed a top player to make it stick he's the one I think.

So I was wandering who these plenty of players were that have been delisted and gone on to anything besides Mitch Robinson who was effectively sacked for lying and fighting.

It doesn't appear that it happens very often at all

For the main reason being that the existing club is pretty aware of the players they have on their books and if they have anything left to offer

Notice a few question about Delisted Free Agents, Before we get to carried away need to remember this system use today is relativly new, ie Clubs are able to select players before the draft, and have the opportunity to delist players to make room in advance, Previous systems were after the Draft, ie Preseason and relied on Clubs leaving hole in the list.
I suspect the list list of Players finding new homes and being successful will grow considerable.
Even with the limitations of previous years there have been a few successful 2nd chance players.

here a few I can remember in recent times, Johnsoton Geelong to GWS, Kelly Geelong to Bombers, A Miles GWS to Richmond, M Robinston Carlton to Lions, Hambling Geelong to WB, Membrey Sydney to Saints, Wright Crows to Carlton, Laidler Geelong/Carlton to Sydney, Simpkins Geelong to Hawks, Krakouer back to Port, JPod Geelong to Crows , Houli Dons to Richmond, Guerra Port to Hawks, Milne Dons to Saints

Further back believe there Bell North to Freo, Rice Saints to Carlton, Carrazzo Geelong Rookie to Carlton, He a Funny one Porplyzia Crows rookie to SANFL to Crows, Harley Port to Geelong, Bolton Lions to Sydney, Rodan Rich to Port, Patfull Port to Lions, Darryl Wakelin Crows to Saints

Pretty sure with some research I can add some more names
Note There a few AA, Grand final winners, 100 gamers at there new clubs. It happens more than we know.

I read that list not too many getting around 29 years of Age. Personally I think freo are fully aware of Barlows ability to get his body right to play AFL footy. If that isn't the issue there is no hope in hell of them delisting him. His best is better than the majority of their midfield so obviously he isn't capable of producing his best

Or they are going down the youth path and Barlow is a casualty. Leaving an opportunity for a club to pick up a very good player for free.

Asked the Freo board what they thought of MB here:

https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/barlow-to-be-delisted.1150478/page-10#post-47692346

Was interested in the ex-supporter view, as they are normally a bit more revealing.

First response seems fairly indicative of the Freo board's position on MB:

You need to play him as an inside mid that can push forward FROM the midfield and kick a goal, not the other way round.

He has lost some speed but not a lot.
Great hands. Defensively he's fine, tackles hard.
Kicking can be a mixed bag, but is somewhat compensated by the fact he ALWAYS chooses the right option.

Unknown on the injuries. He hurt his shoulder and didn't play again for the year
You'll love him

I agree with Lach72. MB has not been used an inside mid by Freo for most of the last couple of years. When he has played as an inside mid he has been damaging. He did play as inside mid thru the middle of 2016 before injuring his shoulder and was our best player during our best run of form. He was keeping us in the Geelong game until he injured his shoulder. As long as his shoulder is right there is plenty of good footy left in him.

Disagree with that.

Mitchell, Lewis, Enright, Morris, Johnson, Mumford, Grundy - all had excellent seasons in 2016
There's a difference between excellent seasons and being at the top of your game.

There are some very good players (still) there, but I think it demonstrates that AFL footballers peak between 25 to 29.

Oh yes I can imagine freo wants to strengthen their opposition with a free hit, are you being serious

You keep good players if they are any good unless you are getting something for them. It helps develop the youngsters why do you think we retained Thompson, do you think they did because he's just a great guy

Freo see his best is behind him and if anyone would know they would

Crap, Freo don't see him as a part of their future, he can play but they are resetting. No point having blokes like MB in the side if you are in a complete rebuild. They don't want to be any better than they have to be.

I would have thought that's pretty much 100% been proven. Doesn't mean players suddenly become useless when they hit the dreaded 3-0.

So your position is he must be cooked at 28 despite some fantastic performances this year in the middle.

Fair enough hope we sign him and he proves you wrong.
