Just listened through the AA podcast. A few comments made by the President,

At 11-4 Ken was seen as a super coach

No, we would not change the timing of re signing Ken Hinkley.

Re signing Hinkley is all about stability, you have to have stability with your Coaching appointments.

Clubs go through a cycle trying to find a magic season, you have battle through that.

We are in a performance industry and have history of performance in our club.

No list management stuff up in not signing a second ruckman it was all a matter of timing.

Koch seemed to keep coming back to injury. I think he is in denial, he does not want to admit that the Club stuffed up and appears firmly convinced the we are on track for success. So there we have nothing to worry about, except David Koch who is an apologist and will not face the reality of the situation.

After hearing that uninspiring clap trap we are in deep shit.

PS I will continue my rant over in the Vanillaristion thread because I feel a Koch melt coming on.

Voss to step up

crikey this saga is getting worse by the day.
Announcements like these are playing with our minds while this ship is sinking.
Fair dinkum we are roo*ed.
They could at least give the appearance of having done a proper review and search for the best available to create the change we need

Why do people always assume that Voss sucks simply because our club as a whole has underperformed since he got here? To me, he comes across as clearly the most articulate and inspiring of our coaching staff. He's a triple premiership captain, has 5 years experience as a senior coach at AFL level and 4 years experience as an assistant in our system. I see no reason why he wouldn't make a good senior assistant.

The one place where injecting new pressures, new ideas, new voices to the head coach is the senior assistant. Instead we basically just shuffle a person who has been here 4 years straight into the role. It's doubtful he will add anything more in his new role that he wasn't already. I really hope Lade gets shunted somewhere though. Surely we can't persist.

Lade can re-paint the scoreboard at Alberton or something.

Kochie saying that Ken was seen as a master when we were 11-4, lol **** off. Everyone hated the way we played even then. Very few were excited, and the game plan was just shockingly poor viewing. Even walking out after a win felt like you had the life vacuumed out of you by a celestial sized Dyson.

He's got no ****ing idea about supporter perspective.

That Saints game was the worst of the year. And we won by six goals.

Another example of the disconnect between the club and the supporter base. They don't have a clue what people thought about Hinkley when we were 11-4.

It's the whole chicken and egg thing isn't it. Players before coaches or coaches before players?

Players not running hard it's the players. Players who dont' run hard enough for long enough that keep getting selected, it's the coaches. If the coaches know a reason why they can't run hard enough, then perhaps it's the fitness program!
Burgo's 'fitness' program is still killing our players.

Listening to Kochie on radio this morning he said that Voss would step up in his role.

This can only mean that Voss is replacing Nicks as senior assistant.

I can't see any way that he is the best available in Australia for this role.

Why are we settling? Why so quickly?

Voss will always be remembered for that trade period at the end of 2009 but he actually had the Lions playing decent football relative to their squad in the later half of 2013. They may have even scraped into the finals had a particular Geelong player not been on the goal line in the dying seconds.

Voss was sacked for not meeting his KPI of finals in 2013 but in hindsight that was not a reasonable expectation at that time.

The amount of players going home is another matter though.

In short. Voss is underrated and started to redeem his mistakes before getting fired when the Lions were looking the best they had during the entire 2010-2018 period. Him being an assistant coach is not the worst situation.

The positive that I'm drawing is that Nicks has seemingly been ineffective in his coaching roles at Port. Hopefully Voss is able to exert more influence and counteract the influence of Bassett.

I don't get this line of thinking. Voss started in 2015 when things started to go bad. Bass didn't start until 2016 so Voss has been at the club longer.

Surely Voss in his current role and even Hinkley are not that easily influenced. Bass has also said in a few interviews that the game plan he used at Norwood is outdated and wouldnt work in today's football so I doubt he is the main person pushing the game plan.
