Mitch Clark

Trying to remember how Lockett got back on the Swans list in his ill-fated comeback. Anyone remember?

I guess no one else really wanted him in that condition anyway.

Didnt he retire, then convinced the Swans to re-draft him for one more go around?

I think the key difference between Michael/Plugger and Mitch Clark is that you could believe the former were retiring because they'd had it. MM clearly had another year or two in the body, and that showed when Essendon and he rorted the system a few weeks later, but it didn't seem ludicrous for a 29 y/o three time flag winner with political aspirations to call it a day with his team well down.

Clark was 25 when he retired and was earning a lot of money, the depression must have been serious and may still be.

2002 Pre-season draft apparently

I thought he was in training for the Tour de France as he spent most of the game on the exercise bike.

The two clubs who would be interested in him are Fremantle and Collingwood.

Collingwood are crying out for a 2nd key forward who can ruck, and Clark would be great. Fremantle obviously would love a key forward to help out Pav next year.

Hopefully the year off has helped he body out, but his value can only be a 3rd round pick when you consider his injury history. I think if you could get 10-14 games a year from him you have done well, especially if those included the finals.

You can add Hawthorn & Richmond to your list. Vickery is getting shopped all around town. Hawks have a ton of Buddy money left over.

This is not looking good for Demons yet another player on the verge of walking out. Unfortunately, booing your players off the ground has it consequences.

Apparently he wants to stay in Melbourne as his partner is doing a Uni course there. He has already stated that he wants to play for a successful side to aid in his recovery so that rules out a few teams straight away.

Collingwood, Richmond, Geelong & possibly Carlton would be his suitors. If I was going to take a stab I would say Collingwood.

I would have thought the obvious club is Fremantle, or perhaps WC (although they have a hatfull of ruck/forwards already). If he is living in WA then I doubt any non-WA club would touch him. And I am not sure Freo would go for him given that he bailed on us for a fist full of silver.

Regardless, good luck to him whatever pans out.

He didn't bail on Freo, he was never there. The bailed on Brisbane.

He and his manager did issue a press release saying he was going to Fremantle so he kinda did semi-bail.

There is something very wrong with the system when a player can retire for medical reasons and get his whole contract paid out and can then return 12-months later and go to another club.

Melbourne should be given a leg-up here as they have done the right thing by the guy by keeping him on their list as well as paying him the full whack.

If as is mooted, the Saints are offering him $800-900K per annum to join them then the Dees should be given the Saints #1 pick in exchange plus Clark has to give back the money he got from the Dees for next year too (or the Saints pay them the money across the season).
