No, he isn't. He was average in his last year at Geelong and if we didn't trade him for Clark he would have gone for a late third rounder.

Was just coming off a period of persistent hamstring injuries and Collingwood picked him up at the perfect time, fully fit and undervalued. Thanks Cats for getting him right and then not realising his value. Geelong had a long list of quality premiership players (mostly midfielders) and they needed to turn some of them over to lengthen their time at the top to cover weaknesses eg key position. Its a problem clubs would kill to have. The lot of successful teams is sometimes you give good players away. The art for other clubs is picking them up when they become available.

Vardy, Clark, Kersten all looking for the exit. Stanley failed as a forward although contributing well as a ruck-forward. Henderson only so-so, supposed to be able to play both ends but seems to be mainly a defender. Cats have really botched their forward line recruiting. Solid response for them to recognise this and chuck out the dead wood.

No interest in Clark at all (in football or general terms) . Kersten will be the interesting one.

??????

Bloke was clearly, clearly, recruited as a key defender, as was stated several times by Scott, and will probably be top 5 in our B&F because of the way he played when back.

Scott's total brain snap to bring a key defender back into a prelim final after a month out, then tell him to play forward, is what puzzles me.

Should have grabbed a Quentin Lynch/Jesse White type instead imo.

I remember feeling envious that Geelong we're able to pay peanuts for a proven goal kicker in Clark but it all went south really quickly. The guy had ongoing injury issues, followed by a form slump and then he gets caught slagging off a teammates sister. It's not a good look for a guy who was supposably trying to rebuild his career. Waste of time and money.

Interesting you only picked up on one name I mentioned, I assume you have no argument with anything else I said. Was a good player at both ends when at both his previous clubs though. To clarify, Henderson has been so so as a forward. I wasnt crticising him as a backman but defence is not Geelongs problem.

Yeah it seems like our forward line plan is we have Tom Hawkins kick it somewhere near him. Historically forward line has not been our strength, we don't recruit or trade well for forwards - we just lucked out getting number 1 pick level KPF through father son.

Henderson has been very good as a key back for us. He's no good as a forward, if we are going to swing backs Harry Taylor is a much better option.

It was a gamble and it failed. The only silver lining is we got rid of Varcoe's contract which gave use some space, which we utilised for our trades last year.

So were Melbourne fans a few years ago.

Clark certainly has a way with fooling people.

Clark should have stayed at Brisbane. From memory when he left the Lions one of his teammates (or someone associated with the club) actually publicly stated that Clark is making a mistake by running away from his problems. How true those words became.
It's a real shame because at his best he was an amazing player.

Lol at the Henderson appraisal.

He played the equivalent of one game, spread over two matches, as a forward, and was our second best defender behind an all Australian in Corey Enright.

Yes I realize that you were making a specific point about our forward recruiting but in reality the only thing we've failed to find has been a permanent second forward. Stanley and to a lesser extent smith both did well having a blow up forward, and Kersten had his moments. One extra permanent marking forward would be ideal alongside Hawkins and a key smaller guy like Menzel.

I was furious with him back in 2014 and thought he’d return to his glory days with Geelong. After kicking 6 in his first game back (pre season) it was looking ominous. That was about all she wrote though. Lumumba has been useless for us so it was a 0-0 draw from our viewpoint.

Probably a shit bloke but I garnered a lot of sympathy for him after Cats beat Collingwood last season. We all have problems in life but those two hours of footy each week give us a chance to forget about them, and there’s no better feeling than the immediate aftermath of a good win. Seeing Clark with his head bowed and Scott with his arm on back at that moment made me realise how ****ing brutal depression is.

Wasn't while he was with us. Varcoe after being traded is a much improved player.
His greatest game for Geelong, ironically, was the 2011 GF when he tore Pies apart

He was on pace to challenge Riewoldt for the Coleman medal in 2012 before doing his foot. Ruined his career.

greatest 5 minutes*

I personally think 2015 was his best individual season, so he definitely needed a change of scenery.

If poor prelim performances threaten careers at Geelong then Henderson, Stanley, Smith, Caddy, Mackie, Motlop, McCarthy etc had all better be very worried..

I understand those saying Varcoe was due for a change of environment, but for those saying he wouldn't be best 22 ahead of some of the guys I've mentioned and others, you're mad. Particularly for a side struggling with providing defensive pressure.

It wasn't just 1 game though and you listed a bunch of people who have played well throughout the year before the game vs Sydney. Also you mentioned Mackie lmao wtf

Or just get over his injuries which he had done by the end of 2014 and thus had his best month of the season and past 3 years in the last four games. The scenery change concept is a myth.
